PARISH COUNCIL MEETING 12 September 2011
Public Forum: Luke Heydon addressed the meeting on the subject of the recent public meeting to discuss allotments. He was pleased to report that there was a very definite interest in the project moving forward and people were keen to help with the Association if the project goes ahead. He had been in contact with the Allotment Associations at Mellis and Earl Soham and those villages’ allotments had been fully subscribed straight away, and Earl Soham had had interest from outside, so he was sure that there would be a greater demand than current numbers of interested parties indicated. Planning: There were no applications for consideration at this meeting. No results of planning decisions had been made by MSDC since the last meeting. There were no other planning matters for discussion. Other business: MSDC’s Budget Challenge was discussed and the Council would be submitting a response although the information on which to base replies to the questions was considered to be inadequate owing to the lack of financial data. It was noted that the Waste Site at Brome was welcomed and that the staff were very helpful. Do remember that there is a charge for non-recyclable waste so it makes sense to take a full car or trailer load of either recyclables or landfill so that you do not end up paying £6 to leave a very small bag of landfill waste.
NEWS ITEMS DIGITAL TV SWITCH OVER: Some transmitter changes had been made earlier than the predicted November switch over date. If you are experiencing difficulties with tuning it will be necessary to call a TV engineer for assistance. ALLOTMENTS: The Parish Council was pleased with the response at the public meeting held on 31 August. The Council agreed to put funds aside to assist with start up costs, if needed and was continuing with its negotiations on the provision of land. It is still not too late to put your name on the list for a plot...contact the Clerk. LIBRARY: Work is ongoing and Stradbroke is to be part of a pilot in conjunction with Eye and Debenham. Suffolk County Council is conducting a consultation on the future of mobile library services in the county. A questionnaire is available for completion on the website: www.suffolk.gov.uk/sld or a paper copy can be obtained from the Clerk. The closing date for responses is 16 October 2011.
October Meeting: The next meeting of the Parish Council will be addressed by Patrick Taylor, MSDC and Babergh DC Conservation Architect, who will speak about the conservation plan for the village. This meeting will commence at 7pm – all members of the public are very welcome to attend and will be able to view the display from 6.45pm.
