MOROCCO: SOUK to SOUK (South to North) Bicycle Africa © 2015 (Subject to Change) MOROCCO: SOUK TO SOUK (south to north) Bicycle Africa © 2015 (subject to change) Program: Bicycle tour, self-contained, small group, visiting the people of the diverse cultures of central Morocco. Cycling Conditions: 750 km, 480 miles, paved roads, a couple mountainous sections. Weather conditions: Highs in the 70's and 80's, lows in the 40's, chance of rain. DAY 01 MARRAKECH. (elev. 460) Arrive in the afternoon and check-in to the hotel. Program options: Start with a Moroccan Dinner & evening exploration of Marrakesh medina. DAY 02 MARRAKECH. The second oldest Imperial city, known as the pearl of the south. The city was founded by the Almoravides at the end of the 11 th century. Points of interest: the Menara Garden , the Saadian Tombs, el Badi Palace, el Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Minara and the dar Sidi Saîd Museum, the souks and Djamaa el Fna with its non stop entertainment. DAY 03 Marrakech to TIZI N’TICHKA (elev. 2210m) (110km by transport) to OUARZAZATE (elev. 1120m) (90km) Long descent with an average slope of 2%. Points of interests: Ait Ben Haddou (improbably, 10km off the road) DAY 04 Ouarzazate to KALAAT M'GOUNA (elev. 1470m) (100km) Long ascent with slopes under 2%. Points of interests: Taourirt Kasbah (former residence of the Glaoui (pasha)), former base of French Foreign Legion. DAY 05 Kalaat M'Gouna to TINGHIR (elev. 1310m) (75km) Climb for 25km and descend 300m over 50km. Oasis. Points of interest: road of the thousand Kasbahs, the Dades Gorge (R704) and river (famous for its roses) and Todra Gorge (R703). DAY 06 Tinghir to GOULMIMA (1040m) (76km) Cross a broad basin, max slope is less than 2% DAY 07 Goulmima to ERRACHIDIA (Ksar Es Souk) (1045m) (60km) Relatively flat, with a climb and dip midway. DAY 08 Errachidia to ER RICH (1325m) (70km) Relatively flat, with a couple of high ridges to cross. DAY 09 Er Rich to MIDELT (elev. 1520) (75km) Climb to 1860m and descend. DAY 10 Midelt to BOULEMANE (elev. 1820) (110km) 100km climb to 2100m, descend for 10km. DAY 11 Boulemane to SEFROU (840m) (75km) Descend from the Middle Atlas, mostly 2-5% grade. Berber village and a Jewish town before Islam was introduced in the 8th century. Home of Moulay Idriss II while building Fes. Program options: stopping point on trans-Sahara trade routes, medina, Mellah (Jewish quarter with security features), Jewish School at Bab Merba, Jewish cemetery, Moslem quarter, city wall/ramparts, Cooperative Artisanale (Bab Makame), Oued Aggaï, pedestrians only bridges, waterfall (1.5km west), resting place of Sidi Lahcen Ben Ahmed (17th century saint), Koubba of Sidi Ali bou Serghine , cherries (festival in June), Kef El-Mumen cave (in legend, resting place of the prophet Daniel), Unesco World Heritage Site (2013) DAY 12 Sefrou to FES (440m) (40km) A long general descent at 2.0% slope DAY 13 Fez. First Imperial City which was built in 790 A.D by Moulay Idriss II Points of interest: Medina, Ramparts, Royal palace, Batha museum, Fez Jdid, Borj Nour, Pottery quarter, Jewish and Arab sections, walk along the river, Karaouine University, , the Mederssa Attarine, Bouanania Religious School, Nejjarine Fountain DAY 14 End of Program .

    Country Paper: Morocco 2008 Prepared for the African Perspectives on Human Mobility programme, financed by the MacArthur Foundation The state of research into international migration from, to and through Morocco By: Mohamed Berriane and Mohamed Aderghal Team for Research into Regions and Regionalisation (E3R), Faculty of Arts and Humanities - Rabat Mohammed V University – Agdal, Morocco 1 Introduction Reviewing the current state of research into international migration in relation to Morocco is a challenging task, plagued with difficulties, if only because of the way this research has been scattered across different disciplines in different parts of the world. Today, the vast majority of this research is being generated outside of Morocco, and not only in Europe, at such a rate that it is difficult in practical terms to keep up with all the new developments in terms of concepts and issues. When looking at the structure of this research, it must be stressed that foreign Universities play the key role. The university thesis, presented in Europe or Morocco, but chiefly prepared by Moroccan researchers, was the main driving force, but today the baton has been passed on to research teams, with international backing and foreign researchers. In order to establish a database of research into international migration around Morocco, we looked at its three characteristic present-day forms. Firstly, there is international migration from Morocco, whose effects are felt outside the country, and which is the best studied and the best understood. Then there is international migration into Morocco, which can take three different forms: returning migration by Moroccans, migration by Sub-Saharan Africans who stop here en route to Europe, and also a new type of north-south migration which leads increasing numbers of Europeans to settle in Morocco.

As we drive along the cultivated fields, we should find a good mix of resident species such as Southern Grey Shrike, Little Owl, Sardinian Warbler, Spotless Starling, Moroccan Magpie, Moussier's Redstart and House Bunting. Slightly higher up, among the rocky slopes, we will search for Blue Rock Thrush and the endemic Levaillant's Green Woodpecker. When we reach the ski resort at Oukaimeden, we will check the snowline for the handsome African Crimson-winged Finch. Other species here include Rock Sparrow, Alpine Chough, Black Wheatear and Atlas Horned Lark. Dinner and accommodation at the Atlas Mountains. Day 2: High Atlas Mountains - Ouarzazate - Boumalne du Dades After an early breakfast we leave the mountains behind, perhaps pausing again en route for Levaillant's Green Woodpecker. From the flat plains of Marrakech we turn back uphill, and drive to Boumalne du Dades via the Tizi-n- Tichka pass (2260 meters), a spectacular and long drive. As the road climbs into the hills, we may start to see some raptors such as Long-legged Buzzard and Bonelli's Eagle both possible. Before reaching Boumalne du Dades we'll stop in Amerzgane to look for the rare Wheatear "Maghreb Wheatear". Here we should see White-crowned Whetear and Black Wheatear too. BEN-SAID1 (1) FST Béni Mellal/Université Sultane Moulay Slimane, Béni Mellal, Maroc (2)Agence de bassin hydraulique de la Moulouya, Oujda, Maroc Abstract: The superficial tablecloth of furrow of Midelt belongs to the bowl of High Moulouya which stretches out from the west eastward between the High Atlas in the South and the Medium Atlas west and in the Northeast. The methodology used includes the synthesis of geological data, piezometry, hydrodynamics, hydroclimatology and water quality. This study provides the following results: The flow mode of the water table is general SW to NE on the left bank of the Moulouya river and on the right bank, the flow is from the NW to the SE. The piezometric ratings vary from 1460 to 1780 m. The hydraulic gradient is the order of 2% on average. The transmissivity is usually about 10-3 m2/s. the punctual flows can reach 50 l / s (case of the drilling N ° IRE 879/38 realized in the alluviums of the Outat). The flow provided by the sources from conglomerates and lake limestones of the Plio-Villafranchien is 50 l / s. The unit of the Mio- Plio-Quaternary aquifer is fed from the infiltrations of rains, by the wadis which cross the banks of the conglomerates and by the landing of the tablecloths of Lias, Dogger and Cretaceous this feeding is however weak in because of the discontinuity of the formations and the poor permeability of the different levels.
