Ecotherapy Awareness Continuing Professional Development Workshops

with Andy McGeeney Epping Forest May 14th or 18th June 9am to 5.00pm

‘Ecotherapy is about creating a deeper connection to nature and feeling better for it’

Benefits of Ecotherapy

Increased awareness Feeling more relaxed Clearer thinking and memory Enhanced mood Physically active Breathing fresh air A better sense of a positive self Food for the soul Meeting and making friends Learning about local nature Apathy reduced and motivation increased Sensory awareness grows Creative Stimulus

Ecotherapy is much more than a walk in the woods. The invitation is to spend a day outdoors with the intention of creating a deeper connection to Nature and in the process increase our sense of well-being.

The use of the outdoors for well-being is becoming increasingly popular. The ecotherapy I train people to use is leading edge in its use of specific activities that bring people closer to nature and in turn improves their well-being.

You will experience the ecotherapy activities I do with my clients and receive the positive benefits for yourself. * see below. There will also be an opportunity to reflect on ecotherapy and how it relates to your professional work.

Participants will receive a free e-booklet on ecotherapy and how to build it into your practice plus a collection of detailed instructions for carrying out ecotherapy activities. You will be given a CPD attendance certificate and receipt.

Check out the website www.andymcgeeney.com for more on ecotherapy, including research evidence and longer training. Or call Andy on 0797 48 402 48

* If you are not a mental health professional and have come just to experience ecotherapy and its benefits thats fine.

* Please read and print out these instructions to save yourself training day stress!

Please be prompt. If you subsequently decide not to attend please let me know in advance; there is usually a waiting list and someone could take your place.

Bring food & drink for lunch there are no shops or cafes nearby.

What do you need to bring? The workshop will run, rain or shine. We won’t be walking far but you do need to be dressed to suit the weather. Trainers will do for footwear. It can be muddy after rain when boots are better. It is best to wear warm layers and a waterproof outer layer. A hat, suntan lotion, and a water bottle are strongly advised in summer. Insect repellent is sometimes useful. Please bring food & drink for a picnic lunch. We will be coming back to the cars at lunchtime if you want to leave things there on the walk.

Andy McGeeney I have a background in psychology, education, personal & organisational development and conservation. I was a psychology lecturer, counsellor and group facilitator for 15 years before working freelance for another 15 years with people in major corporations on change management, conflict resolution, negotiation, and sustainable development. I have also been president of a wetlands conservation charitable trust; ecotour guide; and a writer on wildlife.

Between 2004-7 I managed eleven projects exploring the relationship between people’s health and the green environment as the THERAPI project manager at Thames Chase Community Forest in Upminster. I worked as Psychologist Specialising in Ecotherapy for the NHS Foundation Trust NELFT between October 2009 and June 2011.

I am freelance once again running weekly sessions in Dagenham. My book – With Nature in Mind: a manual of ecotherapy for mental health professionals published by Jessica Kingsley. Publication date 26 April 2016.

“My intention is to be a guide, to take people out into nature and be a pointer to potentially very deep connections between a person’s heart-mind and the green world around them. If a person is open to self awareness then what follows from this opening is unpredictable, but in my experience it is always beneficial.”
