MILESTONES TRUST

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Trainee Team Leader

BASE: Designated Home/Project or rotational as required

HOURS: Full Time – 37.5 hours per week (rotational) Flexible as required

REPORTS TO: Home Manager/Team Leader

Purpose of Job:

To work with the Home Manager/Team Leader to provide a high quality service for service users ensuring their holistic needs and aspirations are met.

To manage shifts in the absence of the Home Manager/Team Leader supervising staff working at a lower level.

To assist the Home Manager/Team Leader in the assessment of Service Users and associated care plans and risk assessments.

Key Result Areas:

Operations -

1. To manage in the absence of the Home Manager/Team Leader the day to day operation of the home ensuring a homely/safe and happy environment for the service users is adopted and maintained and the provision of support is provided to a high standard.

2. To foster good relationships with service users’ relatives and within the locality, especially with the local shopkeepers, neighbours and local groups.

3. To ensure individual care programmes are provided for service users, in liaison with the Support Team.

Service Users –

1. To participate in the assessment of support needs ensuring its delivery is carried out and to monitor/evaluate its effectiveness.

2. To stimulate interaction between the service users by motivating them to take part in their own development by participation in group, occupational, recreational activities and Including community activities where appropriate.

3. To ensure that the service users obtain any prescribed drugs from their General Practitioner and that the drugs are correctly administered and stored safely.

5. To enable service users to comment and complain about any aspect of their treatment or the service.

6. To encourage the service users, if desired, to make full use of community facilities and to encourage the use of volunteers.

7. To promote health education and well being of service user group.

Communication:

1. To assist in maintaining close liaison between medical, nursing, statutory voluntary bodies, and services within the community.

2. To liaise with members of the public, visitors and relatives visiting the home.

3. To liaise with other internal and external support staff across the Trust.

4. To attend on a regular basis and if required to facilitate Staff Team meetings and to represent the Trust/home at other meetings, both internally and externally if required.

Personal/Staff Team Development –

1. To be familiar with the modern trends of residential/nursing support and its associated practices which are appropriate to the service user group.

2. To fully participate and take responsibility for own development through regular ‘Job Chats’/effective learning and appraisal/performance review systems.

3. To share responsibility with the Trust for own and professional/career development and use supervision and support of Managers as required.

4. Provide support with the NVQ process including being an assessor or expert witness for assessing purposes.

5. To make constructive proposals for change and improvement where appropriate.

Line Management Responsibilities –

1. To accept delegated responsibilities of operational unit on a regular basis.

2. When required, to lead a staff team appropriate to the registration of the Home, allocating responsibilities as required across the whole home.

3. To ensure the staff team build good relationships with the service users.

4. To monitor staff work performance effectively, providing support and guidance where necessary and in a timely manner.

Y:JobDescriptions/TraineeTeamLeaderGenericAugust20072 5. To maintain good working relationships and authority within the house in accordance with Trust Policies e.g. Absence Management.

6. To ensure all staff are aware of and adhere to the Trust’s Policies and Procedures and involve the Home Manager where appropriate.

7. To ensure appropriate and efficient use of Home and Trust Resources involving the Home Manager where appropriate.

8. To assist and support the Home Manager/Team Leader in the induction of staff team members.

Administration and IT –

1. To ensure electronic and manual filing systems are adopted in a logical and user friendly manner and appropriate to the Assistant Team Leaders role.

2. To undertake specific administration tasks as directed by the Home Manager/Team Leader.

3. To be aware and proficient at all record keeping, care planning, risk assessments, transport, HR, finance, person centred planning (PCP) and Health and Safety.

4. To work within the Data Protection Act 1998 on the handling of sensitive information.

Finance –

1. To ensure that the finance systems for the house are appropriately maintained in the absence of the Home Manager/Team Leader in line with the policies issued by the Finance department and relevant legislation.

2. To ensure that service users’ monies are maintained and that their resources are spent in an appropriate manner.

Additional Responsibilities –

1. To ensure in the absence of the Home Manager/Team Leader that a lead in all matters pertaining to the home as the ‘person in charge’, including in emergency situations, service user and staff issues.

Policies and Procedures –

1. To work with Milestones Trust’s Mission Statement, Milestones Trust policies and local operational policies.

2. To work within Milestones Trust’s Equal Opportunity Policy.

3. To maintain appropriate records in accordance with local and Milestones Trust Procedures.

4. To work within the NMC, GSCC and Trust codes of conduct.

Under the provisions contained in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, it is the duty of every employee to –

1. Take reasonable care for themselves and for others at work.

2. Take responsibility for the promotion of Health and Safety regulations as are appropriate to this area of care.

3. Co-operate with the Trust as far as is necessary to enable them to carry out their legal duty.

4. Not to intentionally or recklessly interfere with anything provided, including personal protective equipment for health and safety welfare at work.

The job description is not an exhaustive list of duties but is intended to give a general indication of the range of work undertaken and will vary in detail in the light of changing demands and priorities within the service and organisation.

Substantive changes in the range of work undertaken will be carried out in consultation with the individual working within the role.
