Penn State Laboratory Safety Training (Initial)

This course is a one-time requirement under the Chemical Safety Program required of anyone who supervises or works a laboratory. A summary of the program requirements can be found at the Hazardous Waste Disposal Program Snapshot with more detail at the Chemical Safety Program webpage.

The training courses listed below are followed by a final review session conducted by a Laboratory Safety Officer.

Where is the Training Located?

The online training is found on the PSU EH&S training registration website:

Links p su.edu found and on clickthe bottom on the “rightTraining of the” EHS homepage 3) Sign in using your PSU or FPS* Access ID (xyz123) and password 4) Click on “Laboratory Safety and Hazard Communication” on the Courses by Category list 5) Click on “Laboratory Safety Training (Initial)” link 6) These links to the Laboratory Safety Training (Initial) are found in the course description: a. Introduction to Safety (21:10 minutes) b. Chemical Safety (25:00 minutes) c. Hazardous Waste Management and Disp osal (16:25 minutes) d. Emergency Preparedness (12:49 minutes) 7) Training modules can be completed all together or individually as your schedule permits

What to do After Finishing the Online Courses? A certificate will be generated upon successful completion of each module. Print a screenshot (ctrl+PrtScn) of the four (4) completion certificates and bring them to the 30 minute Classroom Session. A Laboratory Safety Officer will review and complete the Laboratory Safety Training specific to your work area.

Remember: Laboratory Safety Refresher Training is required annually and is a separate course.
