We had a great Sport Symposium over the weekend full of great information, education, and a lot of fun! We also had the pleasure of awarding 3 of our HCBC 2014 Award Recipients in January! It's been a pretty busy month for us here in the office!

There are lots of great events happening in February and don't forget to purchase your ticket to the upcoming BC Equine Education Summit in March.

Coaching Development Day Thank you to all the riders, spectators, and vendors for coming to Thunderbird Show Park this past weekend for the HCBC Horse Sport Lauren Barwick in the Running for BC's Symposium! It was a fantastic weekend filled with so much valuable Top Athlete Honours knowledge. Everyone had a great time and learned a lot from our two wonderful clinicians, Ellen Bontje and Dr. Gerd Heuschmann. The painted - Happening in February horse rides with Dr. Heuschmann were particularly popular!

2015 Share the Trails Workshop

HCBC Recreation, together with the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC, is pleased to present our annual Share the Trails Workshop on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport.

Following the Powell River Experience presentation lead by Hugh Prichard, Paul Kamon, and Eagle Walz, we welcome John Hawkings, newly appointed director of Recreation Sites and Trails BC, which is part of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

John will report on the progress of the recently established Provincial Trails

Lauren Barwick in the Running for BC's Top Athlete Honours

Equestrian athlete Lauren Barwick of Aldergrove has been named as a finalist in Sport B.C.'s Athlete of the Year Awards.

Barwick, curler Ina Forrest of Spallumcheen, and skier Josh Dueck of Vernon, are finalists in the athlete with a disability category.

"The Athlete of the Year Awards provides a great opportunity to recognize these talented and deserving athletes, coaches and officials," said Sport B.C. president Rob Newman.

"This year's nominees in all of the award

Lauren Barwick, 37, is a member of the Canadian Equestrian Team, in grade II Para-Dressage, who has competed in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Games. She won three medals in those games.
