CIVIL WAR PROJECT NAME:______DUE DATE: PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGNATURE:______For this two-part project, you will be building a 3-D model of your favorite Civil War battle and writing a narrative about your experience fighting in the Civil War. You may choose to work on this project alone, or you may choose to work with a group of no more than three. The requirements are the same whether you work alone or in a group. Please use included resources to help you on your journey back through time. Enjoy!

PART I: Building a 3-D Model of your favorite battle You may choose one of the following battles to build your model: o Fort Sumter o Bull Run/Manassas (the first battle) o Battle of Gettysburg o Battle of Vicksburg o Battle of Antietam o Surrender at Appomattox Court House o Sherman’s March to the Sea Guidelines: Your model must… o Be 3-D o Be smaller than 24 in. by 18 in. in length and width (size of your desk) o Include both Confederate and Union soldiers in their accurate positions o Have accurate geography/topography of battlefield o Have accurate weapons. For example: guns, cannons, bayonets etc. o Include accurate locations of Confederate and Union encampments o Have a one paragraph explanation of your model including the name of the battle, location, date, and outcome (who won?). Before you begin building your model, you must answer the following questions on a separate sheet of paper. These questions must be answered on or before May 13 and signed off by either a parent/guardian Mrs. Blevins, or Mrs. Acosta before you can begin building your battlefield. Don’t forget to keep track of where you got your information! You must submit a Works Cited. 1) Where were the Confederate soldiers located on the battlefield? 2) Where were the Union soldiers located on the battlefield? 3) What was the geography/topography of the battlefield? 4) What kinds of weapons were used? 5) Where were Confederate encampments located? 6) Where were Union encampments located? 7) What was the location, date, and outcome of your battle? PART II: Narrative/Script You will be writing a narrative from the perspective of a Union or Confederate soldier. Your narrative should be at least five paragraphs and your script should include at least three scenes. Be sure to include as many details as you can regarding the lifestyle of a Union or Confederate soldier, battles in which you would have fought, obstacles that you would have faced, and any other important information that bring your story to life; as well as the following individuals: o Abraham Lincoln o Jefferson Davis o Ulysses S. Grant o Robert E. Lee o Stonewall Jackson o The role that women played in the Civil War, specifically Clara Barton o The role that African Americans played in the Civil War o Harriet Beecher Stowe o John Brown You are encouraged to dress up and bring props on the day of your presentation. Remember, be as creative as possible Don’t forget that you must include a Works Cited!
