The event became big news in both the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet and the Norwegian VG. The main question in this analysis is about the narrative in Aftonbladet and VG, regarding the event as well as Northugs persona, and if the narrative differentiates because of Northugs position as an antagonist in Sweden and a protagonist in Norway. To analyze the narrative in the various articles a self-designed narrative analysis, composed by what felt relevant and useful in the literature, was applied. The differences that were discovered could be linked to the analysis theories of national identity, the hero role and the media's way of using athletes, in this case Petter Northug, as either antagonist or protagonist. The literature stressed that sports journalism gladly uses opposites and there would probably be major consequences for both VG and Aftonbladet, who both are dependent on selling single copies, if they would get rid of the readers hero or villain in the ski world. 1.1 KEYWORDS Narrative, sports hero, national identity, Petter Northug, ski star, Verdens Gang, VG, Aftonbladet, hero roll, sports, cross country skiing.
