Job title: Lifeguard
Reporting to: Swimming Teacher
Job Hours: 32.5 hours a week x 44.6 weeks per year (term time only).
Pay Grade/scale: Scale 3, points 14-17
Salary: FTE: £19,871 (£16,781, plus London weighting £1851, plus SEN allowance £1239). Pro rata actual starting salary £15,344.
1. Purpose of the job The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring that the school pool is a clean, safe and secure environment. The post holder must possess a current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard qualification.
2. Main duties and responsibilities To understand and apply the school health and safety policies and implement the Normal Pool Operational Procedures and Emergency Action Procedures. To act as a mobile patrol lifeguard on the poolside at all times when the pool is in use during the designated hours of employment and agreed school lettings. Anticipate problems, prevent accidents and intervene to prevent behaviour which is unsafe. Identify emergencies quickly and take appropriate action, including rescues from water. To undertake cleaning tasks, equipment/safety/temperature checks in the pool area as required on the agreed work schedule. To keep an attendance record of outside users, inform them when the pool is unavailable and liaise with the school office. To report any concerns relating to outside users to the nominated member of staff or Site Manager. Supporting the Swimming Teacher to ensure effective learning and social functioning is being delivered during sessions. To assist classroom staff with general support and supervision of pupils in the pool area and changing rooms as requested. For example assisted handling help with changing. To maintain a stock of toys and buoyancy aids in a clean and safe condition.

3. Generic Responsibilities
Handing over of children to and from the coach escorts each day.
Accompanying children on school trips.
When applicable contributing to a factual record of any illness, accidents and/or medication.
Being aware of Child Protection Procedures, monitoring and contributing to records by reporting to the designated member of staff.
Ensuring the confidentiality of all records.
Being aware of all school policies and following them, in particular the policy on physical handling.
When the swimming pool is closed to provide cover in other areas of the school as required including supporting pupils at lunchtime.
4. Key Performance Measures Execution of proactive, effective and efficient lifeguard service to the school. Prioritising the safety and welfare of its pupils. Supporting and following the directions of the Swimming Teacher Effective communication with staff and pupils. Effective and timely completion of all documentation associated with the role.
