Abstract: ThepresentpaperisbasedontheghostcrabsOcypodeceratophthalma,O.gaudichaudii,O.macleayana,and O.rotundata, belongingtotheBrachyurangenusOcypode.ThespecimenswerecollectedfromthesandybeachofSonmianiontheMakrancoast. Fourbelongingto1genusaredescribedindetailandillustrated.

Introduction Systematics Ocypode,calledtheghost,isalargegenuswith Ocypode (Weber,1795) aworldwidedistributioninalloceansfromthetropical Carapacesquarish;foldedlongitudinally.Eye-stalks andsubtropicalcoasts,fromtheAmericanAtlantic, large,moderatelystout,cornealargecoveringmuchof throughtheMediterraneanandRedSea,totheAmerican lowersurfaceofeyestalkusuallysubterminaland PacificandIndo-Pacificregion.The3species,namely reachingtowardbaseofeyestalk.Noflagellumon OcypodekuhliideHann,1835recordedfromasandspit, exopoditeofoutermaxilliped.Chelipedswelldeveloped, anotherspecies Ocypodeceratophtalma (Pallas,1772) unequalbutnoticeablydifferentoneithersideorineither recordedfromDongiIslandand Ocypoderotundata sex.Thedactylusisfairlylong,straight,pointedorblunt, (Ortmann,1898)fromDongiandManoraIsland,were itbearsalongitudinalsulcus,dactylusisalsoimportant firstrecordedbyHashmi(1962,1963,1968)and taxonomically. Material:1AdultFemale,Locality:Sonmiani,Makran Coast,Carapacelength:67mm.Carapacewidth:59mm. Description: Carapace(Figure1a)squarish,broader Results thanlong,anteriorcornersflattened;frontbetweenthe Ocypodeceratophthalma(Pallas,1772)(Figures1a- eyesnarrow,bentdown.Eyestalkslarge,elongated, c,2a-f). prolongedbeyondthecorneainaslenderstyle. Cancerceratophthalmus Pallas,specilegiaZool.IX. Nat.Hist(5)X,1882,pp.378,379:C.W.S,Aurivillius, Exopoditelong,slenderandunsegmented.Granules presentonthirdmaxilliped,whichhavetaxonomic importance(Figure1c).Abdomen(Figure2a)somewhat slender,broadwith6somites.Chelipedsstout(Figure 2b,2c)somewhatunequal,rough;fingerswithtruncate ends.Ambulatorypereiopodsthirdandfourth(Figure2d, 2e)longfinelyroughened.Gonopodoffemale(Figure2f) slender. ThesespeciesarewidelydistributedfromCaliforniato andintheArabianSeanearSonmiani,Makran coast,Pakistan,especiallyonsandybeaches. Ocypodegaudichaudii H.MilneEdwardsandLucas, 1843(Figures3a-d,4a-d). Discussion granules.Thelengthofthestridulatingorganofthelarge Fourspecimensofthegenus Ocypode werecollected palmisgreaterinlength,anditismorethanthegreatest fromSonmianibeach25º23'N066º33'Eon22 breathofthepalm.Thefirst3pairsofpereiopodshave February2003andduringasecondtripon17 broadenedmerus. September2003atlowtide. Ocypodegaudichaudii differsbyhavingflattened Ocypoderotundata differsfrom Ocypode anteriorcornersofthecarapace,andstout,rough cerratophthalma inhavingroundedantero-lateralangles chelipeds.Fingershavetruncateends.Itsambulatory ofthecarapace.Thespinesorserrationsattheinner pereiopodsarelongandfinallyroughened. angleofthewristaremorenumerousandattheouter Ocypodemacleayana differsbyhavingupperorbital anglearebettermarked.Themeropoditesofthefirst3 broaderslightlycurved,almoststraight.Corneaatthe pairsofpereiopodarenotasbroadasinotherspeciesof endofthepeduncleisoverhungbyaprocessofthelatter. Ocypode.Thelengthofthestridulatingorganismuchless Dactyliofthe4posteriorpereiopodsareverylong.The thanhalfthegreatestheightofthepalm. thoraxisdarkerandspotted.Itisidentifiedbyeachjoint Ocypodeceratophthalma differsbyhaving oftheabdomenhaving2redspots.Thepereiopodshave pronouncedanterolateralanglesofthecarapace.The darkerbands.Thepresentstudyisbasedon4speciesof merusandischiumoftheexternalmaxillipedshavetheir Ocypode;thisstudywillbeusefulindeterminingthe exposedsurfacecircumscribedbyaraisedrowof taxonomicstatusofthespecies.
