EXPERIENCE

The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, 2007 – present. Assistant Professor, Department of Radio‐TV‐Film (joint appointment with School of Information, 2007‐2010) ♦ Created and managed successfully a number of large courses and have consistently attained some of the highest teaching evaluations within both departments. ♦ Facilitated professional development for students through internships and work placements in corporations, state and federal governments as well as the non‐profit sector. Supervised teaching and research assistants. ♦ Interviewed and recruited new faculty and staff for two separate UT departments. ♦ Served as interim director for the Kilgarlin Center for the Cultural Record at the School of Information, Fall 2009. ♦ Participated on the advisory board for the Harry Ransom Center’s exhibition, “Making Movies.” ♦ Taught in the UT‐Portugal Digital Media Project, University of Porto, Summer 2009. ♦ Raised significant state and private foundation money to support ongoing academic research (see below: Texas of the Moving Image section.)

George Eastman House, Rochester, NY, 2010 – 2011. , Motion Picture Department ♦ Directed the L. Jeffrey Selznick School of (both a certificate and MA program) as well as taught and advised in the Film and Media Studies Department at the University of Rochester. ♦ Supervised the acquisitions, maintenance and preservation of all moving image material in the George Eastman House – one of the top motion picture in the country and world renowned for its unparalleled collection including the films of Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Merchant Ivory, Kathryn Bigelow and Ken Burns. ♦ Researched, curated and implemented all exhibitions related to motion picture material in the ; supervised all film screenings and educational programs in the Dryden Theatre as well as around the globe via loans. ♦ Lectured on motion picture history and preservation across the United States on behalf of the museum and performed a variety of fundraising functions including grant writing. ♦ Negotiated major public‐private partnership with Kodak Research and Development in reference to the digitization of and implementation of online platforms featuring Eastman House media.

Texas Archive of the Moving Image, Austin, TX. 2003 – present. Founder and Executive Director ♦ Created and incorporated the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI), a 501c3 charity, dedicated to raising awareness about the value and fragility of Texas film and video as historical and cultural artifact. ♦ Established cooperative relationships among institutions across the state interested in preserving Texas film heritage and in providing public access to these moving images for education and entertainment. ♦ Designed and developed a digital moving image collection featuring a variety of historic films and accompanying socio‐cultural context and information. Online, searchable and interactive catalog launched August, 2008. ♦ Established organizational budgets, set fundraising goals and pursued both public and private sources of financial support. For example: Collaborated with Texas agencies, legislators and 1

lobbyists in the successful creation of a $20 million dollar line item in the state budget that included a component uniting media production and a new preservation initiative. ♦ Raised awareness of both the organization and the need for statewide moving image preservation programs generally through media and public relations outreach. Featured in numerous newspaper articles, radio and television interviews. Created a program in for the Texas Speaker of the House reunion to digitize moving image material related to all former Speakers; produced an edited DVD of their campaign footage, news material and home movies for the Speakers; and presented the material to the Speakers in a formal appearance in the Texas State Capitol. ♦ Received National Film Preservation Foundation grants towards the restoration of pre‐1950 films made by an itinerant Texan filmmaker. Premiered one film in 2006 at a highly attended public event in the local community and in 2006, National Public Radio aired a story featuring the project. ♦ Produced and managed a film history educational program for the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum summer camps. ♦ Sponsored Texas’ first “Home Movie Day” – a program that brought people of all ages and backgrounds together to learn about preserving their family films. ♦ Initiated the “Texas Film Round‐Up” program that crosses the state to raise awareness and educate the public about the preservation of moving image material as well as to discover new films and video for the purpose of building TAMI’s digital collection network.

Warner Bros., Burbank, CA. 1998 – 2000. Senior Administrator, Film Preservation ♦ Responsible for the research, organization and implementation of the WB film preservation plan. ♦ Reviewed all preserved films and applicable video materials for quality standards and control. ♦ Assisted cinemas, classic movie television stations and film festivals in the programming of films from the Warner Bros. collection.

Library of Congress, Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division, Washington, D.C. 1996 – 1997; 2000. Coordinator, National Film Registry Tour ♦ Programmed film festivals that brought older motion pictures back to the big screen in over fifteen American cities ‐‐ over 15,000 individuals attended. ♦ Coordinated all Tour publicity and fundraising ‐‐ conducted interviews with print media and appeared on local radio/television programs to raise awareness of the need for film preservation. ♦ Premiered the restored version of George Stevens’ Shane in the town where it was filmed: Jackson Hole, Wyoming ‐‐ event included a reunion of local extras.

The Stanford Theatre Foundation, Palo Alto, CA. 1997 – 1998. Assistant ♦ Helped with the programming and general operation of the theatre – a historic movie palace in the United States that features only archival film material.

American Movie Classics, Bethpage, New York. 1995 – 1996. Manager of Acquisitions and Archival Programming ♦ Curated, programmed and produced on‐air segments for AMC’s annual Film Preservation Festival that raised over a million dollars for American film archives. 2

♦ Acted as primary liaison with archives, motion picture studios and transfer houses. ♦ Acquired, evaluated and prepared archival film material to air on the channel.
