he Jefferson College PACE (Performing Arts and CulturalT Enrichment) event series will continue with enter and remove several upcoming performances in the Fine Arts Theatre c on the Hillsboro campus.

The Concert Band will entertain with the presentation of “Where Art Inspires Art” on Tuesday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. conducted by Elke Overton. Admission is free.

The Spring Showcase will be held on Thursday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. as Grammy Award-nominated vocalist Jazzmeia Horn performs along with the Jefferson College Jazz Ensembles directed by Dr. Joel Vanderheyden.

A free master class will be held at 4 p.m. in Room 100 of the Fine Arts building where she will answer questions from audience members. The event is free and reservations are not required.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre. Admission is $5 for general admission and $2 for students and senior citizens. Advance tickets can be purchased at the cashier’s window. If available, tickets will be sold at the door the evening of the performance.

The 26-year-old sings jazz standards, and her repertoire includes songs and music from other genres such as Stevie Wonder. She has been compared to jazz vocalist as , Sarah Vaughan, and Nancy Wilson. She has earned a reputation as a dynamic music artist. Horn recently added another accolade to her résumé for her “A Social Call,” which was in the running for Best Jazz Vocal Album during the recent 60th Grammy Awards. She also performed at the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, which announced Grammy winners in more than 70 categories.

Dean’s List Announced for Fall 2017

efferson College Vice President of Student Services, Dr. Kim Harvey, has announced the Dean’s List for J the Fall 2017 semester, containing the names of 676 students who earned the academic recognition. The Dean’s List can be viewed online.

To qualify for the Dean’s List honor, full-time students must achieve a grade point average of 3.25 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) in at least 12 credit hours taken that semester. Part-time students who accumulate 12 or more credit hours with a 3.25 grade point average also qualify.

Jefferson College to Host Annual Mastodon Fair March 19-22

s a recognized leader in providing educational programs and opportunities for people of all ages, JeffersonA College will host the 39th annual Mastodon Fair the week of March 19-22 in the Field House on the Hillsboro campus.

Entries from students all across the area will be on display, making it the largest combined art/science fair in the entire United States. As such, the Mastodon Fair is the only educational activity of its kind to bring together all of the area’s elementary and secondary students at a college site. Participants range in grade from K-12, representing public, private and home school education settings.

48-Hour Film Contest Offers Unique Video Production Challenge

ommunity filmmaking teams are invited to direct, produce, or star in an originalC short film during the seventh annual 48-Hour Film Festival sponsored by the Events/Community Outreach Committee and Art Department.

The contest is open to all Missouri residents within a 200 mile radius of the Hillsboro campus. There is no cost to enter. Teams of up to five members will be given a theme and must work within 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a film up to six minutes in length.

Rules Teams are required to attend the kickoff meeting in order to participate.

All work must be original and shot within the 48 hours allotted. Films must conform to the decency standards of a community college environment as determined by the Film Committee.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three films.

Submitted films will be shown during a public screening on Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Hillsboro campus. Due to time constraints, the screening may be limited to the 10 best films.
