Que Sera, Sera...

Its amazing to think that 3 months just like a second has passed and we are here on a new issue; our 8th actually.

In recent times, a whole lot of impossibilities has been made possible particularly in the Nigerian Music sphere. A couple years ago, we wouldn’t have imagined these recent events would be possible but here we are at a junction where a bridge between the ‘international music world’ and our local music world has been created. Much of these developments were made possible by the determination and hard work of the industry practitioners and also the advent usage of the digital hemisphere to connect globally. Editor-In-Chief Anslem Jon In a recent survey, has witnessed an exponential increase of internet users with over 55% from mobile users; reason largely Sub Editor accrued to the availability of smart phones. The end chain when Leonard Onwubuoya linked to music is a large consumer base. Editorial Consultant Joyce “LMK” Imiegha At a workshop I recently attended for Creative Writers, the hall was divided into two sections; one section who were strongly opposed to Fashion Editor / Stylist the digital trend citing it as a threat to the reading culture in Nigeria, Priscillia Philips while the other section voted for new media as the trend of disseminating informations which are readily accessible and easily Art Director / Graphic Designer absorbed. Edesiri Ukiri (@Graphixed)

Truth be told, no one section was absolutely right judging from the Senior Correspondent fact they both have their pros and cons which varies and are relative. Stephney Bass Correspondents Here at Tush Magazine, we predicted this contrast and we decided Ahutu rufai to create an avenue for availability of the magazine for both Ugo ogbonna communities - The digital market and the traditional readers by Jeffrey onomoasor providing e-magazines (online) and hard copy magazines. [email protected] Nigeria’s Music Industry is no doubt the biggest music industry in Africa and the fastest growing music industry in the world. Fans of Nigerian music all over the world have so far this year had more than they had expected as new songs keep coming out day in day out.

So far in the first half of this year, we have heard new sounds and witnessed the break-in of new artistes and many more unprecedented achievements by Nigerian musicians. We have also witnessed a growth in terms of indigenous cinematographers; the quality of videos coming out of Nigeria has shown that our cinematographers have upped their game. Nigerian music producers have also unrelentedly improved and we now get a variety of sounds and good music everyday.

The industry itself is an improvement as it keeps getting bigger and bigger. We have also witnessed artistes acquiring new homes and showing off their latest machines“ ” in their garages; many artistes have also followed the trend of releasing hot singles preceding an unidentified date of their supposed album releases, and Artistes like , P-square and fall in this category. We have also witnessed many upcoming artistes gaining grounds in the industry and is no doubt one of the few up and coming artistes who upped their games to match with our A-list artistes. His song ‘Alubarika’ was indeed a great hit as it officially launched his career followed by his two new singles, ‘Girlie O’ and the remix which featured A-list artiste, .

6 • TUSH • @TushMagazineNig Another upcoming artiste who has had massive success this year is . The talented artiste who launched his career last year with his hit single ‘Party Like 1980’ continued this year with another hit ‘Gallardo’, featuring talented singer Davido. Gallardo has enjoyed massive airplay and has been likened to Davido’s hit, ‘Aye’.

We cannot review the success of the first half of 2014 without talking about the king of street rap . Badoo as he is fondly called has hardly gone sour since he stepped into the music scene. The rapper who definitely knows what his fans want has not stopped delivering remarkable hits. His hit single ‘Sittin’ on the throne’ has so far this year enjoyed media attention, ‘Turn Up’ - the single he released last year was a hit till the first quarter of this year. Also, Oritsefemi’s‘Double Wahala’ a tribute song to the late legend Fela, was a massive hit. Dr Sid’s ‘Surulere’ featuring was another fans favourite as the song became an instant hit upon it’s release.

Moving on to Artistes on Five Star Music, they have also enjoyed the first half of this year. , the Limpopo master who has been on top of his game after being separated from his former group, KcPresh, recorded great successes with hit singles- ‘Limpopo’ and ‘Pull Over’ running all through last year. So far this year, KCEE has released a couple videos off his album, followed by his latest single, ‘Fine Face’. His colleague/label mate Harrysong now known as Mr Songz, has been adjudged as one of the most talented fast rising artistes. The Delta state born artiste’s single ‘Story’ was a huge one for his fans and radio stations. He was recently featured on VJ Adams’ (Soundcity) new single ‘Whazup’ which has also turned out to be big much recently.

We also cannot fail to mention the Made Men Music Group- MMMG. The label that has the emerging diva Emma Nyra and its lead artiste giving his fans all over the world great new sounds. Iyanya’s hit single ‘Away’ has shown that he is indeed working to stay on top. Another newly signed rtiste on MMMG Tekno, toppled out with a blazing hot single ‘Dance’. The single which practically launched the talented young artiste into the limelight regardless of his previous singles is fast becoming a favourite for DJS, radios and fans.

Phyno is yet another artiste who has enjoyed the first half of this year; The indigenous Igbo rapper has had successes upon successes. His hit singles‘Parcel’ and ‘Alobam’ which is off the No Guts No Glory album have gained massive airplays and street credibility, especially in the Eastern part of the country.

Other Nigerian artistes whose songs recorded successes are , , Sean Tizzle, , Wizboy, , Jesse Jagz, , , Orezi, , Eva and Charass. We also witnessed the celebrity wedding of Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz in far away Dubai, following the trend of Tuface and Annie. Also Paul Okoye of P-Square had his wedding with long time hearthrob and baby mama, Anita Isama in Port-Harcourt; still in the Okoye’s family, their eldest brother and manager, Jude Okoye got married although with so many hullabaloos surrounding the ceremony.

We also had two of our artistes nominated for the prestigious BET awards for “Best international Act” Africa category with Davido carting home the award while the first lady of , Tiwa Savage made the list. Also at the MTV Base Africa Music Awards popularly known as MAMA awards 2014, Nigerian artistes proved yet again their growth as they carted five (5) awards home.

Not forgetting D’banj, who is no doubt Nigeria’s greatest export has been rather quiet as he has failed to record a massive hit after the release of his numerous singles. The soundtrack of the movie “Half of a Yellow Sun” came close but fans still expected more from the Koko-Master and DB records. The likes of M.I, Banky W, were rather quiet also.

Rounding up the first half of 2014, I’ll focus on three A-list artistes...

DAVIDO

Davido also known as Omo Baba Olowo is one of the most talented young artistes in Nigeria. The HKN representer has never gone sour after breaking into the Nigerian Music scene. After a successful 2013, where his songs ‘Gobe’ and ‘’ were major hits within and outside the country, the artiste kept releasing single after single and also featured in various hit tracks. His song ‘Aye’ recorded the highest download of a Nigerian song this year and was on top of various music charts. Also, his new single which he featured South-African duo, Mafikizolo which was titled ‘Tchelete’ meaning Good Life has become an instant hit upon release and was nominated in the MAMA awards for best collaboration. Asides winning the BET awards’ Best African act, he also got four nominations in the MAMA awards 2014 where he brought home two (2) awards. It is indeed a promising year for Davido.

7 • TUSH • @TushMagazineNig P-SQUARE

The popular musical duo and identical twins have been Africa’s most loved group since they started out years ago. After a successful 2013 with their US tour and singles, the twins released a new single ‘Taste the money (Testimony)’. The song which talks about giving testimony of their successes over the years and enjoying their money has been fans favourite since it’s release. Their supposed break-up rumours almost tore their fans and sponsors apart as everybody became worried. It was relieving news to their fans all over the world when they broke the news of settling their differences on twitter. Their Album well anticipated is expected to be out later this year. It is important to note that P-square has been Africa’s most successful musical group for a really long time. Their song ‘Personally’ which was a tribute to the late Michael Jackson was still a heavy hit till the first half of this year and as at May, the song has eclipsed the 18million views mark on Vevo. The song was also nominated for song of the year category in the MAMA awards 2014. P-square also got three nominations in the awards.

TIWA SAVAGE

After a successful 2013 where her song ‘’ featuring Don Jazzy became a great hit, the songstress and beautiful diva of Mavin Records has been nominated for several awards this year. She was nominated for the category of Best African Act in BET awards 2014, alongside Davido, of Ghana, Mafikizolo of South Africa, Diamond Platinumz of Tanzania, and Toofan of Togo. She also won the award for Best Female at the recently concluded MAMA Awards.

With a successful wedding in Dubai which had many celebrities in attendance, Tiwa showed her versatility in the remix of Patoranking’s ‘Girlie O’. She came clean with a sweet reggae flow that made the remix a song to listen to. Aftermath of her collaboration with Patoranking, she tactfully released a raunchy video of her single ‘Wanted’ causing a huge buzz as different people had their own opinions.

ARSENAL AND ITS MANY GLORIES. By Godswill Anene.

It has been an all sowing and not reaping era for the most successful North London based football club for nine consecutive years. Fans of Arsenal FC have been worried over the club’s lack of trophy challenge over the years. It’s believed that the club itself has always been comfortable with the position of the team come the end of every season. The management was also comfortable with the monetary returns made every season that none of them were agitating for a trophy. This consecutive event made many important players leave the club in search of glory and silver-wares. The management was not concernend about the exodus of important players but instead, they were happy with the huge amount of money made from the sale of those players.

Arsenal no doubt is one of the best clubs in the world. They play a very similar pattern of tiki-taka possessive football like Barcelona only that they are made of youthful inexperienced good players. Their success over the years in spite of the trophy drought was the great input of their experienced and first grade Manager,Arsene Wenger. Arsenal were the traditional London club, having won 13 League titles and 11 FA cups. But their failure to make an impression in the title challenge has left them second best to Chelsea.

Chelsea’s great performance over the years has placed them in the limelight forcing Arsenal to be the second best team in London. This year, Arsenal FC proved critics wrong by challenging for the English Premier League (EPL) title even though complacency made them slip from the top position they occupied for a long period beyond the expectation of many and relishing the threat as a strong contender.

The most exciting moment for the Gunners run this past season was on the 17th of May. It was a celebratory time for fans of Arsenal all over the world as their club won the FA cup in a tie that saw the North London club coming from 2 goals down to win the tie in extra time to avoid penalties. Goals from Santi Cazorla, Kosielny and Aaron Ramsey assured the Gunners their first title ending the nine-year drought. The last time Arsenal won a trophy was during the 2003/2004 season with the best record having an unbeaten run all through the 38 matches in the EPL. The squad that made that history was named the Arsenal Invincibles.

After the great achievement of the Invincibles, Arsenal went sour; going trophy-less every season in spite of the impressive possessive football. Their major target every season became the Champions League spot. They had been lucky every season to have qualified for the Champions League but they failed to make a great impression after reaching the finals and losing to Barcelona in 2006. Qualifying from the group stage has never been a problem for Arsenal but the mentality of going beyond the group stage in the Champions League has been nil. They have beaten the best of the best in Europe but have not surpassed the knockout stage in the Champions League since 2008/2009 when they lost to Manchester United in the semi-finals.

Arsenal came close to breaking the trophy-less spell in 2011; they succeeded in reaching the Carling Cup finals but lost the trophy to underdogs and minnows Birmingham City. Before the spell of trophy drought was broken, many Arsenal fans were shy to be associated with the club because they were seen as failures. But with the performance of the club this season, many were proud to fly their jerseys and the colors of Arsenal. It was indeed a rough time for fans of Arsenal over the past nine years. Their resilience and patience paid off.

Unlike other big clubs who can not stand a trophy-less season without firing their managers, Arsenal fans kept faith regardless of their skeptism of Wenger’s tactics, they were patient enough without asking for his head to be axed. Even though they queried Wenger’s pursuit of money over trophies, they kept faith supporting the club through thins and thorns and now they can relax and say, ‘it was worth the wait’.

Breaking the jinx of trophy-less seasons was a great achievement for Wenger as he said that it was a turning point as he hoped to bring more trophies to the Emirate Stadium again. Wenger who currently has signed a 3-year extension of his contract as Manager, promised to be busy in the transfer market to bring in key players to fortify the squad for greater challenge as he looks forward to winning the EPL title after 10 years.

Arsenal’s FA cup win over Hull city ending the trophy drought and their Champions League qualification, made it a great season for them and a relief to their worried fans all over the world. They have indeed made a statement with breaking the trophy-less spell.

13 • TUSH • @TushMagazineNig ‘RUNS BABES’: AN ACCEPTED PHENOMENON IN NIGERIA By Oghomwen Toni-Osagie

When did the word ‘Runs’ get on the map? Well nobody knows for sure, the only thing I know is that sleeping with married men got on my radar after I read about the ‘Lewinsky Scandal’. So I decided to write about a common phenomenon in my city Lagos, called ‘Runs’ aka ‘Parole’ aka ‘Professional Mistress’. This is supposed to be the easiest article in my short lived career, but it turned out to be the hardest because I did an in-depth research on this subject matter and I came up blank and unsatisfied with my results. So I watched some Nollywood movies and went through Nigerian Instagram. There is always a fight between ‘Runs girls’ on Instagram, they even openly insult themselves on social media with comments like; “Oh @SugarBabyCrankberryJuice everybody knows that it was Alhaji Hassan that bought that Range-rover for you. And the house in Lekki @HotBadGirlRiri told me you sleep with him when his wife is out of town”. I get to see comments like that all the time. This is not a joke. Take this seriously. So in my mind I envision Monica Lewinsky who is from a very affluent family in Southern California, a University graduate of Psychology.

Prior to her affair with Bill Clinton the President of the United States of America at the said time, she had an affair with another married man before she was linked with Bill Clinton. We can’t say if she was doing it for money, which is highly unlikely seeing as she has a trust fund and dined in Beverly Hills before she met the former President. After all that research on Monica Lewinsky’s background, I have come to a final conclusion. There are indeed different grades and types of these class of Ladies. With my little understanding and limited exposure I’ll like to explain what I mean.

The Professional Mistresses:

These types of women are not interested in the financial gain, they are the type of women that are of a very different type of breed if I must say. These women are fully aware that the men they have their eyes on are married men, but because they are in love or are seeking a gain, like a merger of her multi million naira company with his multi billion naira company. Or a contract. They pay no mind to the relationship status of these men. In most cases these women are from affluent homes and have proper education. So in my opinion they are more expensive. She won’t ask you to buy her a Range-rover, you’ll buy her boats, priceless artifacts, take her to New York for the fashion week. She’s the type of woman that buys things off the runway.

Parole babe aka 1800 Choke that hoe:

These are the sort of women you have your PA organize for you. Like take for instance, a successful businessman that is always on the move from one city to the next or one country to the next. These men get lonely and bored in their hotel rooms, so they need a lady for the night with a backpack. Backpack because, this said lady needs her supplies because she’s going to stay the whole weekend. Sometimes she might have to come with a friend or two depending on the man’s sexual preference.

14 • TUSH • @TushMagazineNig She knows her place, she doesn’t care if you’re married to a woman or mermaid, her job is to please you for the weekend. And if she is ‘presentable’ she can act as an escort to events you have lined up for the weekend. She can’t be a non-drinker or smoker. For the length of time she is under your service, she has to entertain and amuse you to your satisfaction. If you ask her any questions, it is; ‘Yes I will’, ‘Yes I can’. These Ladies earn a decent fee, depends on the man’s financial buoyancy. They are not retainable, and they are not allowed to collect phone numbers of the men or contact information. After the weekend it is over and done with.

The Runs Babe aka #MissYouCantSeatWithUs :

Most of us are very familiar with these classes of women, because they are everywhere! They are by your side, in your churches, in your favourite beauty parlour, on your coffee table right now. A runs babe is the type of woman that has sexual relations with a man (married, single, hermaphrodite, transgender) and collects money/perfumes/phones from him at the end of the said act. But this is the twist, she doesn’t just have one particular man that she does this with, she has various men in various geographical locations. A runs babe is in denial, because she hates being tagged as a runs babe, she wants to be called a professional mistress or a girlfriend. But she is not. These Ladies are comfortable with the most mundane things, like they are at their happiest when they buy expensive hairpieces, shop on instagram boutiques, take photos in Intercontinental Hotel, have lunch at Radisson Blu, go to Palms to see a late night movie, trips to Dubai, get many likes on instagram, change DP’s constantly on their blackberry phones, gain twitter followers and wear WEDGE sneakers. Yes, they get call backs from their Aristos and the works. They are not expensive at all. At all.

This is not a diss article. I am simply writing on trending issues. I do this for the art and your entertainment. It is believed that a high percentage of these type of women live in Lekki phase 1. I don’t know how true this is, but with this extensive guidelines I’ve given, I think I have opened a can of worms in every household.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a diss article, or a tell all memoir. You can’t hold me responsible for the words and street slangs I used in this piece. I did it strictly for the art and your entertainment.

26 • TUSH • @TushMagazineNig UNITY By Chiamamaka

Many years ago, back then when I was an eager pupil in my primary school days, my social studies teacher – and many other such teachers of equally wide-eyed pupils all over the country- told the story of Nigeria and how she came to be; placing less emphasis on the gory details of the Nigerian civil war, and more emphasis on the National flag and Coat of arms; the word common to them both being ‘Unity’. The Green colour on the flag represents Agriculture, the white colour represents Peace and Unity; the motto of Nigeria as written on the Coat of arms is Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress. We were made to understand that Unity entails brotherhood, mutual respect and togetherness, even though it may be expressed in many different forms.

The Oxford dictionary defines Unity as ‘the state of being united or joined as a whole’, and according to dictionary.com it is ‘the state of being one; oneness’. This means Unity is more about our relationship with one another, our mindfulness of the other and our attitude- how we behave towards one another; and as Virginia Burden rightly says,‘Cooperation is the thorough conviction that nobody can get there unless everybody gets there’.

Presently, however, unity has been reduced in its meaning by being restricted to expression only through mere symbols of togetherness and harmony. These symbols, though important and effective in promoting unity are fleeting. We may all agree that nothing on earth has ever been known to be strong expressions of unity amongst men as football, music and religion. When we restrict unity to these, what happens when they are taken away from us? A quote by Henry Ford goes thus, ‘Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success’. From this we see that without first accepting each other and coming together, we cannot manage to be successful in our expressions of unity. As we know, that which should bind us together is very often that which tears us apart. So, in the case of football, religion, music, what becomes of us when they are taken away from us? Do we stay united or do we reclaim our positions in the society and renew the gaps separating us? The world cup is taking place presently in Brazil, and people of different nations will be united in their hopes and wishes and prayers for the participating countries. But what will happen afterwards? Will the rich and poor still sit together in a bar and discuss freely on which country is the champion, without considering for a second the social difference between them? Will bankers in their expensive suits hang around newspaper stands and argue good-naturedly with mere traders over the skill employed by a revered footballer in his scoring of a goal while chewing on roasted corn and pear? Will violence and religio-political wars stay suspended as arms are dropped in favor of the TV remote control? Will we show forth our brotherhood by being as concerned about the man who designed the Nigerian flag, our emblem – Taiwo Akinkunmi-, as we are about our choice of musicians?

In the face of these questions, we ought to look inwards and realize that unity will be achieved first through acceptance. We must accept ourselves for who we are and accept our neighbors for who they are. Then, our unity may go on to be strengthened by our common interest in music, in our faith, or in our preferred football club.

My name is Michelle and I’m a rape survivor. This is my story.

I was gang-raped by four armed robbers in the presence of my mum and younger brother when I was 17, in my home.

My mum refused to take me to the hospital or tell the police about my rape. Word travels fast, she said; no one would marry a girl who had been gang-raped. She was afraid that the stigma would ruin our lives. My dad was away for work when it happened, and when he got back and was told about my rape, he resented me. He refused to touch me or talk to me. He wouldn’t even look at me. It was then I started to feel like nothing would ever be the same. I felt like damaged goods. I started to feel irritated in my own skin; I’d look in the mirror and see the four men staring back at me, laughing at me.

About four weeks after the incident, I woke up sick and threw up terribly. My mum finally gave in and took me to the hospital. The doctor was furious, demanding to know why a rape was being reported four weeks after it happened. Series of tests were carried out and my mum and I sat in the waiting room for about 50 minutes before the doctor called us into his office to drop the bombshell on us. The tests had shown that I was four weeks pregnant. My whole world came crashing on my teenage shoulders. I ran out of the hospital and just walked around the city aimlessly until nightfall.

I walked back home. My dad’s looks when I walked into the house shot arrows at me. I ignored him, I couldn’t care less. I headed straight to my bathroom, stripped naked, and started scrubbing my body furiously. I scrubbed and scrubbed and eventually started crying loudly. My mom came in and tried to stop me from tearing up my skin but I didn’t let her, so she sat there and cried too.

I can still get it out, I can still get them out,” I repeated between sobs. I continued for the most part of an hour before passing out from exhaustion. Mother rinsed me up and put me to bed.

I woke up at 3 a.m. feeling bruised and hollow, empty and terrified. I could feel every feeling my 17 year old self could register. It was all too much. I screamed for my mum and she came and held me and cried with me. She called me her precious baby and I felt safe.

She then told me what had transpired between her and the doctors after I ran out. It was agreed while it was more advisable to abort the baby, a more ethical approach would be to keep it, and then adopt it out; and more importantly start therapy and counseling for PTSD. I stared blankly as she talked and

31 • TUSH • @TushMagazineNig Survivor’s Anonymous

then I fell asleep in her arms and dreamed of flying babies chasing me, catching me and jeering at me. The faces of the babies changed to those of my rapists and I woke up again crying.

Fast forward three months after I was raped, pregnancy beginning to show, therapy already begun. I hated, hated, and hated it, this demon spawn growing inside of me. A constant reminder of my shame and defeat. At the countless anonymous meetings and therapy sessions and counseling sessions, I was taught how to deal with life after rape, life with unwanted pregnancy, but I wasn’t taught how to live without fear or how to not see the faces of my rapists every time I looked in the mirror.

As each day passed, I hated my dad more and more. I hated him for not being strong enough to be my pillar after it happened, I hated him for cutting me off emotionally, I hated him because even without saying it, I knew from his eyes, that he blamed me for getting raped.

I wasn’t taught how to not have nightmares every night and not wake up in tears. I had ceased to live and had become a shadow of myself. My virginity, my pride and my life were taken from me all at once and all my emotions fused and became one; hatred. My once sparkly eyes became bloodshot. Crying became routine for me. I shut all my friends out and spent my time at home ignoring my family. I don’t know what exactly I became, but I changed. I started smoking cigarettes and drinking beer because I couldn’t even care about my life. Or the baby’s.

Mum got back home one evening and gave me a slip. It read, “Dr Holmes”, and had telephone number scribbled on it. Mum said to me, “He’s a pretty good therapist. I thought I could deal with it but I can’t.”

“You’re my mother; you’re supposed to know how to deal with it!”

I kept yelling at her, ignoring her sobs. Next I went to the bathroom, threw the slip in the bin and went into the bath.

I spent my days worrying about why other girls were so pretty; why they were prettier than me. I became vain, and had an unruly spirit of relying on my flesh to bring out my beauty. In all honesty, I was rude, vulgar and arrogant just to hide my vulnerability. Days turned to 6 months and 3 out of 4 of the boys were caught and detained, and even then I wasn’t happy.

After a lot of persuasion from my mom, I started attending weekly group therapy at a St. Maria’s Foundation for Rape Victims. We all sat in a circle and took turns to speak. I listened to angry and hurt people wailing; crying and sharing stories and experiences yet I felt like none was bad as mine.

One day, my turn to talk came to speak. The therapist called out my name.

“Huh? Me?” I asked. “Yes you, sweetheart. You’ve heard everyone’s story but we barely know what you sound like,” she said with a smile. I had finished sharing my experience. Everyone was silent, so silent that even a dropped pin could be heard. I could see their tears, their pity was tangible. I looked down; they stared at me, still saying nothing. I got up and walked out. I had in that instant decided I was going to abort the baby on my own.

A girl called Danielle came to speak to me as I lit a cigarette just outside the hall. She had brown hair, dark skin but lighter than me, mixed race I think. She was pretty and didn’t look like a victim to me. She looked more of a heart breaker. “It will kill you, you know,” she said. I shrugged, dropped it and told her I was dead already. She shook her head and told me it was bad and no man was worth me killing myself slowly over.

“I heard your story, I understand that you’re bitter. You know, you have to let go, erase it, cleanse yourself, your thoughts and your emotions, immerse yourself in the spirit of this coming Christmas and you will be fine. It’s difficult, I know. My uncle raped me, you know. I stabbed him afterwards, but he didn’t die. He got better, raped me again, and beat me badly. I have let go, I forgave him. It was difficult, but I did.”

The rage inside me never came forth anymore.

Danielle was hit by a car a week to Christmas and she died instantly. She didn’t get to receive the Christmas card I wrote for her, and she didn’t get to count down to the New Year. What fascinated me the most is that she had the ability to forgive her own uncle. If she could, how much more strangers?

They caught him a few days to Christmas, the main offender. He pleaded insanity. I spoke to him but it wasn’t enough, I wasn’t happy. He begged, and so did his mother. I regarded them, tearful but emotionless. Danielle’s words rang in my ears and for a moment I was confused. His old mother knelt down, and pleaded on behalf of her son. I was touched, it was Christmas after all, I decided to give her something to celebrate.

And so I decided I would let it go and forgive; for Danielle, but most importantly for me. I decided I would keep my baby. I couldn’t have made a better decision in my life. That was the best decision I’ve ever made. It was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I felt free and I felt ready for the rest of my life as a survivor. Nobody is allowed to tag me a ‘rape victim’. I am not a victim, I am a survivor. Instead of drowning in hatred and wallowing in self-pity, I chose to let go. I chose to forgive. Holding on to anger would have left me a victim, moving on was my greatest victory, not letting rape define how my life turned out, a great achievement.

I am 23 years old now; six years after my virginity was stolen by gang rape, and I got pregnant and decided to keep the baby.

My daughter is my all now. I am not ashamed to say the ugliest and most shameful experience of my life brought me the most beautiful gift I’ve ever had; my pride and joy, Danielle. I named her after my late friend.

I am proud to say I have put my past behind me and I am excelling and achieving greater heights. This was possible because I forgave. I hate to imagine how I might have turned out if I had continued living my life in rage and hatred. Forgiveness is really the best thing that ever happened to me.

Ephesians 4:31-32 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of slander. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you.

35 • TUSH • @TushMagazineNig LoudNProudLive presented yet another jam packed ASA ASIKA with AYO JAY & Stargaze artist edition of the live music showcase featuring the new and improved Skales. Guests flooded into the new venue: BUDDAH Lounge, Victoria Island- an intimate and sexy club with high expectation & ready to be wowed by this month’s live offerings.

Starting the programme of entertainment the popular GBT Auditions - with judges: Mercy ‘Omo London’ (Cool FM OAP), Dapo Adeyemi (C.E.O., Wahala Media) & Nkiru Balonwu (C.E.O., Spinlet). The Auditions were entertaining & interactive with audience members voicing their strong opinions in reaction to judges’ comments. ‘Blaque’ emerged as triumphant winner as announced by GBT host Bola ‘The Genie’ Sonola.

Kicking off the main segment, was last month’s Golden Breakthrough Winner, HYCENT who vibed nicely with the live band and entertained the crowd with his energetic dance AYO JAY, The. Folake, Ngozi Omambala, Kalu Anya aka Blasflo & Mercy Omo London moves. We expect many great things from Hycent in the future who is clearly a natural born performer. LoudNProudLive continues to seek out the very best of unsigned music talent and give them a platform on which to kick off their careers.

AYO JAY showed us why he’s the hottest new singer on the block as he serenaded the crowd including host MERCY ‘Omo London’ (an audition judge earlier on) with songs including his big hit - ‘Available’. He worked the happy crowd and showed love to the ladies who obviously couldn’t get enough.

Next up, LA based bass guitarist and all round rock chick “The. Folake” who brought a grittier sound to the LoudNProudLive stage. Folake charmed the audience to the point that they were singing along with her for most of her performance, as she strummed along. Her throaty vocals lent themselves to songs MERCY OMO LONDON AYO JAY about love and heartbreak, something to which many could relate.

Headliner SKALES, introduced himself as the new and improved SKALES 2.0 as he announced his change of management and acknowledged his growth as an artist and performer. The new SKALES lived up to this reputation as he and the live band remixed several classics including ‘Komole’ which had the crowd on their feet, cheering and dancing. Skales rounded up his set with club hit ‘Shake Body’ which brought the house down and truly showed how far he has come and how much potential he has to be a truly great performer.

The SHAKE BODY Edition was a resounding success: full of new talent, some pleasant surprises and the emergence of a new era of SKALES. What a night indeed!

Wired for Monogamy Or Nah? By Joyce Imiegha

“Monogamy or whatever you call it; I’m starting to think it ain’t for everybody. Most of us are rushing into it anyways...”

I happen to be one of the really few people who believe and sincerely support this quoted line above. And just in case you happen to be judgemental and not open-minded about subjects like this, I’d suggest you read no further.

According to Wikipedia, Monogamy is a form of relationship in which an individual has only one partner during their lifetime or at any one time. Hence; being in a monogamous relationship simply means, NO EXTRA LEAGUES. Polygamy on the other hand is a marriage or relationship that includes more than one partner.

In our society today, monogamy and polygamy are being practised by different ethnic, religious and racial groups. Some religions take for example, Christianity restricts its followers to monogamy only, while the Islam religion on the other hand permits polygamy and all its pros & cons.

But theoretically speaking, asides cultural values, religious beliefs and what have you; would you rather be polygamous or monogamous? Are you mentally polygamous already? Do you think monogamy may or may not really work for you regardless of your religious or ethnic beliefs?

“Love is cursed by monogamy”.

Many relationships and marriages today have broken up and packed up because of people’s inability to stay faithful to their partners. People are being forced to accept a way of life they cannot be committed to. I for one have met people who blatantly expressed their inability to remain monogamous or remain exclusive to their partners.

In my opinion, Love for one’s partner shouldn’t be questioned in a situation where promises to maintain a monogamous relationship/marriage fails. We all know that one neighbour, colleague, boss or friend who’s madly in love with his wife but still keeps a girlfriend on the side. It’s no news that it has also become a habitual act for some Niger-Delta men to “marry more wives” or keep girlfriends on the side “just in case”.

Except it really goes over the bar, I personally have come to terms with humans’ need to explore. Hence, breaking up a marriage or relationship because of a spouse’s inability to stay monogamous is an act of naivety. Truth be told, monogamy is sometimes a hard decision to stick to.

Distance I must add is a major catalyst of polygamy. So dear readers, before going into relationships/marriages, you should have to discuss with your partner and clear out your points of views. Also, simply prepare yourself should in case someone falls out in the course of maintaining a “monogamous relationship”.

Disclaimer: I’m not encouraging polygamy and will not be held responsible for decisions made after reading this piece. I’m just saying.

Wizkid - On Top Your Matter - 961,093 hits | Released February 13, 2014 (Video)

He is one Starboy who certainly knows how to do really big things. It was love season, and with Valentine’s Day around the corner, it presented the perfect opportunity to release the visual to his Del’B produced highlife- influenced number, On Top Your Matter. Sesan made the video so admirable that it rekindled the song’s interest and got us surfing the net to grab our copies.

Davido - Aye - 876,732 hits | Released February 01, 2014

Mark my words, the Davido will make history if not for anything but for his classic and evergreen number- Aye. Aye practically gave “Skelewu” a run for its record.

Davido & Mafikizoko - Tchelete - 776,456 hits | Released April 30, 2014

Call this the collabo of 2014. Two of music’s big weights in Africa decided to come together and do a song. What you get from that is what they have called “Tchelete” meaning “Good-life”. Mafikizolo have got the sweetest melodies that keeps you glued to their sonorous tunes while Davido is steady locking it down in the swag department - from the looks and even to the lines. and Oskido cleaned it up with kicks and 808s that you just won’t stop bumping your head to. I’ll recommend the video too!

Olamide -Anifowose - 767,178 hits | Released Mar 18, 2014 (Video)

Waking up from Baddo’s Baddest Guy Ever Liveth album is Anifowoshe, Olamide’s national anthem for the streets. While the track features vocal cuts from legend KWAM 1, videographer Kemi Adetiba brought all the genius to screen that made the life-influenced number become a fave. Add that with Olamide’s emotion-laden vocals; even you can agree that you just had to have it for record sake.

Tiwa Savage - Wanted - 753,057 hits | Released May 27, 2014 (Video)

Afro-pop songstress and Mavin first lady, Tiwa Savage was greeted with a heavy and negative frenzy from fans who sampled first looks at the visual to her reggae number Wanted, off her debut album “Once Upon a Time”. With reckless abandon, they attacked her seduction attempts, her fashion choices and the general tone of the video dismissing it (her) without haste because she reminded them of Beyonce and . But true to her lyrics, she’s “Wanted” and we (you and me) made it so.

2face Idibia - Rainbow (Remix Feat. T-Pain) - 658,685 hits | Released Feb 04, 2014 (Video)

Indigenous Afro R&B legend, 2face is definitely not new to the music art. Scratch that, I meant the international music scene. His choices for collaborations leave you wondering how, where and when. Rainbow was one of 2013’s big hits and when he called on eccentric R&B artiste T-Pain for a remix, glory road led only one way - UP! So in February when he decided to put out the video which was shot in Atlanta USA, it reminded us why we crowned him king of R&B.

Sound Sultan - Kokose (Feat. Wizkid) - 633,664 hits | Released Apr 07, 2014 (Video)

This happened to be the next big thing after “Natural Something” on the singing Sultan’s sixth studio album titled “Me, My Mouth & Eyes”. Teaming up with Starboy Wizkid on vocal forces, these two brought a classic urban sound that was a total bring away from the usual style of music’s rising and falling tones; such that when the video treatment came in April, it pointed us back in the direction of our download sites.

41 • TUSH • @TushMagazineNig THE REVOLUTION OF 3D PRINTING By Olili Bob

I call 3D printing technology, technology gone extra-ordinary. 3D printing is definitely the future as it has changed the face of manufacturing and made it easy in an unimaginable way. Though some people have heard about 3D printing but am not sure they know pretty well what it can be used for.

3D printing or additive manufacturing as it is called, according to Wikipedia is a process of making a three dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model. An object can be designed on a computer just the way you design any other thing and then transferred to your 3D printer just the way you transfer documents to your normal ink printers for printing.

The first working 3D printer was first created by chuck hull of 3D systems corporation in 1984. Initially 3D printers used to be very expensive to procure, they cost about $100,000 but now they have become less expensive, as low as $10,000 as the technology has improved tremendously in this 21st century.

3D printing can be used in printing objects you will never have imagined, here items are printed in layers, one at a time. 3D printing has made manufacturing of objects take a different tune as now it can be used guns as proved from a recent research from defense distributed. Guns are designed and then the raw materials poured into the 3D printer which in turn builds and printed layer by layer, the manufacturing of gun cartridges are very easy with this process.

The main advantage of 3D printing is that it utilizes materials for production very well, unlike traditional manufacturing processes which uses a large amount of materials. In 3D printing, materials are placed in the 3D printer in a minimal amount desired to the printing to take place successfully.

In 2013, Chinese scientists at the Hangzhou Dianzi University invented a 3D bio printer dubbed “Regenovo” which can print some human parts such as ear, livers, and kidneys from living tissues. Regenovo developer, Xumingen claimed the printer could produce a mini liver sample or a five inch ear cartilage sample in under an hour.

3D printing has also made the production of wears very easy because some researchers has successfully been able to use 3D to print high tech bikini. So ladies can now easily get their bikini’s made of strong nylon materials for swimming and sun bathing printed from 3D printers and creators says it actually becomes more comfortable when it’s wet.

3D printed is also not as exception, Foodini is a 3D printer that lets you print your food fresh. It automates some of the cooking preparation process, for instance, printing out individual ravioli instead of the Cook having to make the dough and fill and assemble each Individual piece themselves. It’s not replacing all the preparation required to make the meal but it’s likely going to speed up aspects of the food preparation(without necessarily sacrificing the freshness of the ingredients been used).

Also researchers at the University of Exeter brought up an idea of 3D printing of chocolates, which gives owners of the 3D printers liberty to print out their own chocolates at will. Other foods that can be printed with these printers are burgers, pizza, cakes etc. European space agency has also been working on perfecting of metal parts which it expects to achieve in five years’ time. This technique is expected to be used in printing rocket parts.

The usefulness of 3D printing in modern day technology cannot be over emphasized as it has been proven beyond doubt that it is definitely a technology for the future.
