Liimatainen1, T. Niskanen1, B. Dima!, I. Kytövuori2, J.F. Ammirati3, T.G. Frøslev4 Key words Abstract Cortinarius is a species-rich and morphologically challenging genus with a cosmopolitan distribution. Many names have not been used consistently and in some instances the same species has been described two or Basidiomycota more times under separate names. This study focuses on subg. Phlegmacium as traditionally defined and includes diversity species from boreal and temperate areas of the northern hemisphere. Our goals for this project were to: i) study DNA barcoding type material to determine which species already have been described; ii) stabilize the use of Friesian and other ITS older names by choosing a neo- or epitype; iii) describe new species that were discovered during the process of taxonomy studying specimens; and iv) establish an accurate ITS barcoding database for Phlegmacium species. A total of 236 typification types representing 154 species were studied. Of these 114 species are described only once whereas 40 species had one ore more synonyms. Of the names studied only 61 were currently represented in GenBank. Neotypes are proposed for 21 species, and epitypes are designated for three species. In addition, 20 new species are described and six new combinations made. As a consequence ITS barcodes for 175 Cortinarius species are released. G~tzsche Lagarasi 2, 700 Egilsstaoir, Iceland and Institut for Sporeplanter, 0ster-Farirnagsgade 2D, 1353 Copenhagen K, Denmark ABSTRACT: Sixteen species of, Helotiales and Pezizales (Discomy cetes) are recorded, whereof 9 species are new to the Icelandic flora: Lachnellula suecica. Ciboria polygoni, Peziza cf. cerea, Peziza fimeti. Peziza granulosa. Geopora sp.. Melastiza eha teri, Otide8 cf. alutacea and T8rzetta spurcata. HELOTIALES Helotiaceae ASCOCORYNE SARCOIDES (Jacq.) Groves & Wils. The species was reported by ROSTRUP (1903, p.313) under the name Coryne sarcoides (Jacq.) Tul., from Halssk6gur in N-Ice land, based on a specimen collected by 6lafur Daviosson. It has been found many times in the Public Park in Akureyri (AMNH 199, 9958), growing on stumps of different trees, mainly Betula and Sorbus spp., also in Arnarh6ll near Akureyri, in a garden. In SW-Iceland it has been found by Eirikur Jensson in Fossvogur 1988, and in Vifilsstaoahlio near Hafnarfjorour 1978. In the East it has been collected in the forests of Egilsstaoir and Hallormsstaour in 1987-1988 (AMNH 11642, 11856). The growing season is from late August to October. Since the species is rarely found in the ascus-state, it can not be ascertained whether A. cylichnum might also be present in the material or not. Hyaloscyphaceae HYMENOSCYPHUS cf. CALYCULUS (Sow.) Phylogenetic diversity in the core group of Peziza inferred from ITS sequences and morphology Karen HANSEN1, Thomas LÆSSØE2 and Donald H. PFISTER1 " Harvard University Herbaria, Cambridge, Massachusetts, MA 02138, USA. # Department of Mycology, University of Copenhagen, Øster Farimagsgade 2 D, DK-1353 Copenhagen K, Denmark. E-mail: khansen!oeb.harvard.edu Received 23 January 2002; accepted 30 May 2002. Species delimitation within the core group of Peziza is highly controversial. The group, typified by P. vesiculosa,is morphologically coherent and in previous analyses of LSU rDNA sequences it formed a highly supported clade. Phylogenetic diversity and species limits were investigated within the group using sequences from the complete ITS region (ITS1-5n8S-ITS2). Eighty-three specimens were selected for molecular study from a larger sample of material studied morphologically to explore the intra- and interspecific variation of each putative species. The sister group taxon, P. ampelina was used as the outgroup and two specimens of P. subcitrina were additionally included. Seven independent lineages of rDNA were identified (I–VII), each representing one to several species. These lineages form two larger clades, A (II, and I or III) and B (IV–VII), supported by macromorphology: small (generally ! 2 cm), shallowly cup- to disc-shaped apothecia (A) and large (up to 15 cm), deeply cup-shaped to expanded apothecia (B). The overall exciple structure (a stratified or non-stratified medullary layer) and to some degree spore surface relief, likewise support the groupings.

Distributions and habitats are noted. Newly reported records of species occurrences are as follows: Ascocoryne cylichnium, Gloeotinia granigena, Melastiza flavorubens, Octospora melina, O. leucoloma, Ombrophila violacea, Peziza apiculata sensu lato, P. phyllogena, P. succosa, Pseudombrophila theioleuca, Ramsbottomia macracantha and Tarzetta cupularis. Phlegmacium) species is described from northern California. Cortinarius mikedavisii is a brightly colored bulbopodium in sect. Laeticolores. Phylogenetically it belongs in the /cupreorufus clade. Key Words — Cortinariaceae, fungal taxonomy, nrITS data Introduction Cortinarius sect. Laeticolores M.M. Moser ex Moënne-Locc. & Reumaux was erected to accommodate some of the brightly colored bulbopodiums of subg. Phlegmacium. The section type was originally designated as “Cortinarius orichalceus” (a misapplied name, not conspecific with Agaricus orichalceus Batsch); its valid name is Cortinarius cupreorufus Brandrud (Brandrud et al. 1994). Recent molecular studies (Frøslev et al. 2007, Garnica et al. 2009), congruent with my own phylogenetic analyses, show that the broad circumscription of sect. Laeticolores by Moser (1960) and Bidaud et al. (2004) is polyphyletic. However, a group of species around C. cupreorufus forms a well-supported clade including C. rufo-olivaceus (Pers.) Fr. and C. prasinus (Schaeff.) Fr. The /cupreorufus clade, which represents the core of sect. Laeticolores, is well represented in western North America with Cortinarius mikedavisii, described here as new, and other undescribed species (Fig 1). Materials & methods Methods for morphological studies and DNA extraction, PCR conditions and primers, PCR product clean up, and sequencing were employed as outlined in Bojantchev & Davis (2011).
