Linck 1790:38 [ref. 4985] described the new genus Barbatula mentioning 'Hierher gehören Cobitis Barbatula Taenia', meaning that two species were included, Cobitis barbatula and Cobitis taenia; barbatula is the type due to absolute tautonymy (ICZN Art. 68.4).
