• The EUREKA/COST-Bureau (ECB) is the National Contact for EUREKA, EUREKA Clusters such as EUROGIA2020, the Eurostars Programme and for COST, on behalf of BMBF • part of DLR Project Management Agency • Since 30 years, providing advisory service on funding opportunities for EUREKA projects in Germany – advisory service for industry willing to go international • in-house complementary services provided by H2020 accredited NCP for SMEs and Eurostars programme managment • supporting project implementation together with funding agency of international partners • providing support to the entire project (the ‚glue‘ between Ministry, funding body and participants) • supports success story publication after project is finished http://eureka.dlr.de

EUREKA: Possible Funding in Germany

EUREKA in Germany generally does not have earmarked funds.

• Therefore, EUREKA project participants need to apply with suitable funding programmes and opportunities – public or private.

Programmes open for SMEs, Research and Technology Institutes, big industry: • Thematic programmes, if conditions match (national/regional) • Thematically open programmes, such as ZIM • Private funding sources

9 EUREKA: Possible Funding in Germany

Two possible funding programmes for SMEs could be:

• ZIM Programme (http://www.zim-bmwi.de/): Thematically open, no deadlines, focused on SMEs. • KMU-Innovativ: addresses SMEs as well, seven main focus areas (Bio-Tech, Nano- Tech, ICT, Production Technologies, Resource and Energy Efficiency, Optical Technologies, civil security research). Where can a matching call or programme be found?

• Federal Ministries, such as  BMBF (Ministry for Research and Education)  BMWi (Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy) – funding the ZIM programme  To a smaller degree: other Ministries such as Environment etc. • Regional Funding: ‘Länder’ in Germany, e.g. Bavaria and Saxony • Other funding sources, such as foundations, Structural Funds of EU…

EUROGIA2020 and EUREKA

• EUREKA is an international platform and network of 40 European and 3 Associated countries, represented by Research Ministries and funding agencies • Since 30 years, EUREKA supports industrial research, opens access to internatinal markets and clients • Facilitating international cooperation on the basis of national funding • Thematically open, minimum 2 partners from 2 countries, 3rd country participation possible, no deadlines • Runs Network Projects, implements the Eurostars Programme, features Clusters • EUROGIA2020 is the Energy Cluster within EUREKA: an industry-driven initiative, implemented as a PPP, generating energy related projects, same rules as EUREKA • Supports international project consortia as a whole • Gives visibility to projects and partners • Contributes to competitiveness of European companies http://www.eurekanetwork.org/eureka-clusters and www.eurogia.com

A co-funded programme by 34 EUREKA member countries and the European Commission

• Under the roof of EUREKA, same basic principles apply:  Minimum 2 partners from 2 countries  Thematically open  Project funding from national means

• Features different from EUREKA:  Earmarked national budgets  EU-top up for national budgets  Central evaluation  2 Cut-off-dates per year

A EUROGIA2020 project may also be funded by the Eurostars programme
