KINGSWOOD CONSOLIDATED CHARITIES exists to give financial assistance to Kingswood residents at a time of need, hardship or distress. The Trustees can award a donation for goods or services either directly or, where appropriate, to an organization providing those goods or services. The fund cannot be used where it is more appropriate for public funding to provide support and assistance. A typical example would be traveling expenses for outpatients’ hospital visits. For further details or to talk to someone in confidence, please contact Mr David Roe on 01453 843199. Kingswood Defib Awareness Group: David Owen [email protected] 01453 844463 At the successful Showday at the beginning of September, several people asked for more defibs in Kingswood – in addition to the one being planned for Charfield Road. Two sites in particular were mentioned. For the time being I am concentrating solely on fundraising to provide the public access defib in Charfield Road, but if anyone has ideas about how to raise funds for the one after that – do please let me know. Ideally a defibrillator should be with a patient in cardiac arrest within 5 minutes of collapse. You can see why it is so important to have more in the community. If you can Gift Aid a donation, this will be hugely beneficial – I can give you payment details. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The four existing 24/7 defibs in Kingswood are located at: i. The shop: behind the pillar box. ii. The village hall: on the outside wall, adjacent to the main entrance door. iii. The Primary School, Abbey St: on the front wall, next to the main entrance. iv. Bramley Close flats: on the end garage, facing Russet Court (near the footpath to Golden Lane). Wild about Kingswood It has been a good year for pears at the wildlife area with the two old pears trees loaded with fruit. There are also lots of small apples and a couple of the small new trees have needed support for the over laden branches. Water in both the ponds is low and we have taken the opportunity to start clearing the banks of the old dew pond and cutting back overhanging branches to continue our mission to improve the water quality by letting in more light. As the grass starts to need less strimming, we will be doing some work on the hedges including the first cut of the hedge we laid last winter. If you are interested in what we are doing, please come, have a chat on Mondays from 10.30, or join in and enjoy the fresh air and exercise. Kingswood Silver Jubilee Club We had a very interesting programme this summer including ‘A talk on Amateur Dramatics’, singers with a very good variety of songs, a magic Lantern Show, our free cream tea for members, a lady talking about her experience as a film and TV extra and our latest talk with wonderful slides by our own Wildlife photographer, Iain Green. We still have a wide variety of speakers to take us up to our Christmas Lunch, our last meeting of the year. We would be very pleased to welcome any prospective members; we meet every 2 weeks on a Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm at the village hall. For further information contact Rita on 843348 or Tony on 842938. The parish council has recently been asked by a member of the community to install a No Dogs sign at the playing field. The parish council has declined this request as it would be misleading and not legally correct. The Power to exclude dogs from Public Open Spaces lies with Stroud District Council and not the Parish Council. Public Space Protection Orders can be viewed on Stroud District Council’s website and on the Parish Council’s. Dogs are currently allowed on all playing fields within the Stroud District Council area. Dogs can only be excluded from fenced off areas e.g. around play equipment. To put up such a sign would be divisive as it would imply that members of the community cannot bring their dogs to the playing field and could lead to conflict. The parish council is aware that the playing field is used by people with their dogs who act in a responsible way picking up after their dog and also litter. However, the parish council is aware that even 1 episode of dog fouling is unpleasant and unhygienic. The parish council has a zero tolerance to dog fouling throughout the parish. In the meeting on 9th September 2019 the parish council agreed to erect more signs alerting dog owners to the offence of not picking up after their dog. These signs will be installed over the coming weeks. Regular patrols of the playing field are carried out by Kingswood Parish Council, Stroud District Council’s Neighbourhood Warden and the Police Community Beat Officer. However, the parish council also relies on reports from you the members of the community.
