ABSTRACT This paper presents a survey participant who analyzes how the production of audiovisual narratives can contribute to enlarge the conceptions and perspectives of digital inclusion (DI) of youths from peripheral communities of Recife, considering the communicative dimension of this phenomenon. For this reason, references were used to meet three thematic fields – one, about the influences of digital technologies in society and digital inclusion projects; another, about the evolution of narrative, the narrative possibilities in cyberspace and audiovisual narrative and, finally, another about social and educational activities through digital videos with youth in the periphery and their relationship with the concepts of digital inclusion. The methodology that we used was the semi-structured questionnaire to outline the concepts and perspectives of DI that these youth had developed and their usage habits of internet and communication. Subsequently, workshops were held to create digital videos, who registered in the creation process of these young people, and, in the end, applied another questionnaire and conducted two semi-structured interviews – one, individual and another, collective - in order to identify the changes that have happened in the concepts and perspectives of digital inclusion of subjects after contact with this type of production. The results show that young people showed changes in conceptions and perspectives of DI from their participation in the workshop production, understanding the aspects of communication and creative rather than emphasizing more technical or employing aspects of this phenomenon. Thanks to Laura Thurlin for additional battle scene writing! 3 4 1. The bombs exploded with a flash of blinding light and a brief full-spectrum blast of white noise. Next the shrill, upper-mid boosted double kick drum sound assaulted Ian's ears, and the flash was replaced by the rapidly changing PAR lights. Despite the large ar- ray of Marshall cabinets on the stage – and not one of them was fake – it took him some time to recognize the song and the presence of an actual guitar tone, but at last he did. He raised his beer glass in approval. The first song was Rising Force. The God of Swedish shredding, Yngwie Malmsteen, had taken the stage, though he was not yet visible through the thick fog. The intro guitar riff gave way to the first verse, and the bassist began to sang (after Ripper Owens’ depar- ture there was no actual front man), belting out the lyrics like a banshee on crack. Ian sung along hoarsely, for this was a classic he knew inside-out. Meanwhile he tried to catch a glimpse of Jo, who had pushed through the crowd to the front to observe the Maestro better. So far he was not able to see her, but was sure she was doing all right.

The rise of interest in heavy metal academically reflects the growth of the genre as a normal or con- tested part of everyday lives around the globe. The aim of this series is to provide a home and focus for the growing number of monographs and edited collections that analyse heavy metal and other heavy music; to publish work that fits within the emergent subject field of metal music studies; that is, work that is critical and inter-disciplinary across the social sciences and humanities; to publish work that is of interest to and enhances wider disciplines and subject fields across social sciences and the humanities; and to support the development of early career researchers through providing opportunities to convert their doctoral theses into research monographs.

IB EXTENDED ESSAY Subject: Music Guitar musicians of the 20th & 21st century have invented new playing techniques and stylistic developments on their instrument. These techniques were supported by the development of music technology. What stylistic and technical options are available to guitarists today? Exam Session: November 2013 Word Count: Nota C 1 ABSTRACT: Guitar musicians of the 20th & 21st century have invented new playing techniques and stylistic developments on their instrument. These techniques were supported by the development of music technology. What stylistic and technical options are available to guitarists today? Guitarists of today have a big advantage compared on the guitarists from the early 20th century. It seems to be a short period of time, but during these years there was a big advance in the guitar, technically and technologically. In the 20th century, some guitarists were able to develop their own techniques, which now are able for the ones who are learning how to play guitar. The guitarists investigated in this essay are: Jimi Hendrix; Eddie Van Halen; Allan Holdsworth; Frank Gambale; Joe Pass. They were, from my point of view, the ones who renewed massively the guitar and the way of playing it. It can be heard that nowadays guitarists use these techniques frequently, because they are easily available for them. Technology has also a great influence on the guitarists of today. The advance of it helps the ones who want either a specific sound or imitate a famous guitarist they like. Also the sound of the guitar was polished in a way that it can be differentiated in the various genders of music.
