DRAGONFORCE 24. Oktober 2017 Stuttgart-Wangen LKA/Longhorn Gäste: Twilight Force Im Mai erscheint mit „Reaching Into Infinity“ das siebte Studioalbum von DRAGONFORCE, und bereits jetzt haben die Briten zwei Stücke daraus veröffentlicht. „Judgement Day“ und „Curse Of Darkness“ repräsentieren dabei wieder alles, was die Band auszeichnet: Hochgeschwindigkeits-Power-Metal mit um die 200 BPM dank Gee Anzalone, dem nicht mehr ganz neuen Drummer, der sich die Seele aus dem Leib trommelt und zusammen mit dem grundsoliden und ebenfalls ziemlich flinken Bassisten Frédéric Leclercq die Grundlage legt für das unglaubliche Doppelgitarrenspiel der Gründungsmitglieder Herman Li und Sam Totman. Deren Soli tänzeln wie immer nahe am physisch machbaren entlang. Dazu kommen der charismatische Frontmann und Shouter Mark Hudson und Vadim Pruzhanov, dessen Tastenspiel zwar gegen die Saitenvirtuosen eher unauffällig daherkommt, der aber für den komplexen Sound von DRAGONFORCE enorm wichtig ist. Dabei setzen sie durchaus auch auf neue Klänge: Das elf Minuten lange „The Edge Of The World“, das längste Stück in der Bandgeschichte, überzeugt mit atemberaubenden Tempowechseln und Growls und windet sich wie ein Drachenschwanz hin und her bis zum großen Finale. Dabei ist es Li völlig egal, wenn jemand dazu ProgRock sagen will: „Warum nicht? Wir sind große Fans von Dream Theater. Warum sollen wir unsere Einflüsse nicht offenlegen?“ Das gilt auch für das andere Extrem der Platte. „Silence“ ist eine geradezu klassische 80er-Rock- Ballade. Der Erfolg gibt ihnen recht, und etwaige Nörgler überholen sie mit ihrer Speedpower ohnehin problemlos. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

I examine three significant roles – musicians, audiences, and mediators, and focus on the interaction between the localized Chinese metal scene and metal globalization. This thesis project uses multiple methods, including textual analysis, observation, surveys, and in-depth interviews. In this thesis, I illustrate an image of the Chinese metal scene, present the characteristics and the development of metal musicians, fans, and mediators in China, discuss their contributions to scene’s construction, and analyze various internal and external factors that influence the localization of metal in China. After that, I argue that the development and the localization of the metal scene in China goes through three stages, the emerging stage (1988-1996), the underground stage (1997-2005), the indie stage (2006-present), with Chinese characteristics. Next the shrill, upper-mid boosted double kick drum sound assaulted Ian's ears, and the flash was replaced by the rapidly changing PAR lights. Despite the large ar- ray of Marshall cabinets on the stage – and not one of them was fake – it took him some time to recognize the song and the presence of an actual guitar tone, but at last he did. He raised his beer glass in approval. The first song was Rising Force. The God of Swedish shredding, Yngwie Malmsteen, had taken the stage, though he was not yet visible through the thick fog. The intro guitar riff gave way to the first verse, and the bassist began to sang (after Ripper Owens’ depar- ture there was no actual front man), belting out the lyrics like a banshee on crack. Ian sung along hoarsely, for this was a classic he knew inside-out. Meanwhile he tried to catch a glimpse of Jo, who had pushed through the crowd to the front to observe the Maestro better. So far he was not able to see her, but was sure she was doing all right.
