Nov 05, Anne rated it really liked it Shelves: graphic-novelscomicskindlemarvel-unlimitedread-in Well, it only sorta makes sense when you squint really hard. Not for everyone, right? Evan supposedly destined to turn into is the sweetest kid in the room I just want to pick him up and give him a hug every time I see him on the page. Maybe for some of you this is a HUGE whothefuckcares moment, but I've been actively interested in the outcome of this storyline for a long time now. And, yes, I realize Evan wasn't in that volume, but you know what I mean! Quentin on the cover of the single was what originally drew my attention to this sucker. And then there was the last issue. What in the name of fuck is up with this art?! That page doesn't even do justice to what your eyeballs will be assaulted with. And to top it off, it's not that way throughout the entire issue! Some of it is normal looking You see the difference, right? It's not just me?! Ok, whatever. I mostly enjoyed this, and I' no matter what! View all 26 comments. Nov 09, Jeff rated it it was ok Shelves: Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1. Throw in a bunch of head-scratching sub-plots that absolutely make no sense and you have Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 train wreck where there once was a title worth investing your time in. I'm still trying to figure out how Doop ended up on a motorcycle. Oh, and second, Wolverine lost his healing factor. A positive development: The Bamfs are toilet trained and sometimes clothed, yet still have a taste for booze. Bottom line : Stop reading this title. Saying Tomorrow Never Learns is convoluted is like saying Wolverine sometimes has a bit of a temper. This is one of the most overcomplicated, boring storylines EVER — and the X-Men are known for ridiculously complex stories! A bruiser from the future — who manages to be even more one-dimensional than — has come to the present to kill Kid Apocalypse and Quentin Quire because they fight in the future and end the world or something. How exactly do things in the future go so wrong? Also most of the characters are Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 away with and it essentially becomes the Wolverine and Quentin Quire show. Why is Doop on a motorcycle with a tiger? Sometimes overcomplicated stories can be attributed to writers doing something ambitious and different. Fans of the previous series should ignore this entry and Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 it never happened. View all 6 comments. Apr 02, Gavin rated it liked it Shelves: comics. I give this a very hesitant 3-stars Did no one learn anything?? Also, issue 6 has some of the worst art I've seen in a while We've also got some more Doop, which is crucial to the continued success of any Wolverine and the X-Men title. Funny enough to offer levity, and the Bamfs are a good secondary source I give this a very hesitant 3-stars Funny enough to offer levity, and the Bamfs are a good secondary source of entertainment as well. The faculty from 's run on the previous version of the series have all gone away or are on vacation during summer term So we really only have Logan and Storm, who thankfully came back after being added to the cast in the latter half of Aaron's run. When it's just Ororo and Logan, you remember just how good they are together, both character wise and as romantic partners; though that part is only minimally explored. is in space with Kid Gladiator, Warbird, and Broo, on a school project, but none of the rest are shown, which is OK. There's a lot of reference to things that have gone down in pervious books like All New XMen and Aaron's Wolvie XMen, even Remender's X-Force, so it's possible to be lost a bit, but you don't need to worry, as Jason Latour does a serviceable job of making this readable. I just liked knowing what the fuck was Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 on for a change The main point of the story is the fact that Quentin Quire knows he may be destined to become the Phoenix, and Evan is a clone of Apocalypse, and in the future the 2 are on a collision course, with Phoenix killing Apocalypse, but someone else gets in the middle QQ has to grow, figure things out, and even Logan can't help him as much as he needs Phoenix, . I really enjoy the new Scott, it's like as soon as the new costume arrived, he stopped being the equivalent of warm oatmeal. Having been married to Jean, and having recently harnessed the , as well as having been possessed by Apocalypse in the past, Slim has actually got a perspective to offer Quentin that actually proves helpful. There's some good fight scenes, including QQ and Slim rescuing Logan from some Phoenix worshipping crazies, and the new Xkids fighting another future baddie, which is great because Latour keeps on with actually trying to develop them as characters, thank God. Scott even has a sense of humour, small as it is, and it's welcome to see Scott and Logan somewhat reversed roles here. The future stuff is left until the late stages of the volume, and there's some stuff that has me mildly curious about whether or not a certain member of this cast will be involved with Logan's return from the dead I'm loving it. I can't finish this without mentioning that Evan also gets some story time, even though it's more QQ, but we also get to see his development, and relationship with his father figure, Fantomex. I love what's happened here since the events of X-Force, and it sorta gives me a case of the feelsies It's a good start for Latour, who has done lots of work with Wolverine before, notably as an artist, but the writer was Jason Aaron, who is Latour's most common collaborator, so it makes sense that they would let him continue on with this series that Aaron so capably and wonderfully penned until this version. I think he's picked up some good habits from Aaron, and one thinks that the two have a relationship which allows Aaron to throw his 2 cents Iand that's never a bad thing on this title. However, there's a lot going on here that muddles things up as well, so that's why I gave it a 3 star rating I really liked the parts that I liked, and I will give this title a chance going forward, I've already read every single issue! But the stuff that wasn't good took a lot away and I know that there's room for improvement, and I look forward to that! Having said Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 that, if you read any of Aaron's run on the original series then you Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 enjoy this, but if you're not familiar, it might be harder to follow View 1 comment. Difficult, because it is difficult to know what on earth the story is meant to be in the first place. I gave up on this arc in confusion halfway through issue 5, resolving to have another Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 when the final issue came out. It took me five read-throughs and 1, words of working notes. Quentin then has to fight and defeat Evan. Yet something has gone horribly wrong, and there are a range of reasons why that might be so. For the rest of the story, the outfit is presented simply as an Askani church. The entire Corporation angle is a red herring that goes nowhere, despite initially seeming like a major theme. This is just bizarre. And… how? If so, the story is at right angles to reality. But why does John care about that? At the next couple of issues, I keept my interest, thinking it would all come clear soon enough, but the truth is that it all went down hill after the first issue. And when I read the last one, i thought that this story needed more space, to be clearer. In the art department, the last issue was unreadable. All in all, I am dissapointed by this ark. Yeah, I got confused because it looked like there was a plot about a corporation basing itself around the Phoenix in issue 1, and then it turned into a story about the Askani. I was interested in the story-line, but had no idea where it was going. I miss the silliness of when Jason Aaron wrote it. Is it just my twisted mind, or does it truly look like Wolverine barely registered in that story? The sequential storytelling problems may be a result of what the artist was asked to draw, to be fair to him. But when I first read the opening pages and noted the opening caption saying that we were in the future I genuinely assumed that we were looking at Quentin and Idie in middle age, not as time-travelling teenagers. Yeah, gave the first issue a shot and ditched it by the second. But the sales are already below those of the previous volume, so I guess not many readers were enchanted with the new direction either. It seems that the seeds for a book like that are being planted in X-Men anyway. As Paul points out, a lot of this is due to just shoddy writing, with far too many extra characters was Eden Younge really necessary? Want to tell a story about Future Quire deciding he should rewrite the past to keep Idie? That sounds fine, but focus on that. Instead, it Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 gets info-dumped in the last issue rather unceremoniously. As a side note, I would also say it fails because neither Quire nor Idie are really interesting characters here, and Evan gets shunted off to the side as more of a plot device than a character. I Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 the idea of the boys who will turn into Phoenix and Apocalypse growing up as friends and being doomed to kill each other but this story was a mess. I want to like this. I thought about dropping the title at the end of the last volume, but I became invested in the characters. I like the kids. I really want to see where they take Evan. Oh, I got one more! We kill Boom-Boom, but then later we time-travel back and undo it. The character is now broken. And now the Phoenix is going the same way? Rachel as Mother Askani was opposing Apocalypse in the future. AoA Jean in Uncanny X-Force was fighting death seed powered conquerors with the Phoenix force, iirc — though it confuses me what the significance of death seeds to Apocalypse is really supposed to be. By elevating the ball quickly Wolverine & the X-Men: Tommorow Never Leaves Volume 1 can get the ball to land softly on the green and stay close to the.
