Gwendolyn Maxine "Gwen" Stacy is a fictional character who appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, usually as a supporting character in those featuring Spider-Man. A college student, Gwen was originally the first true love of Peter Parker before she was murdered by his nemesis Norman Osborn. Spider-Man writers and fans alike often debate whether Peter's "one true love" is Gwen Stacy, or his subsequent love interest, Mary Jane Watson, though stories written long after her death indicate that Gwen still holds a special place in his heart. The character has been portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard in the 2007 film Spider-Man 3 and by Emma Stone as Peter Parker's friend and love interest in the 2012 reboot film The Amazing Spider-Man and the sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, she first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #31 (December 1965). The Green Goblin kidnapped and threw Gwen Stacy off the George Washington Bridge in The Amazing Spider-Man#121 (June 1973) after his Goblin persona returned as a result of stress in his life. Both the decision to kill Gwen and the method in which Marvel implemented it remain controversial among fans because some believe that Peter himself was the one that caused her death.

When science geek Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider, he was imbued with amazing abilities: the proportional strength and speed of a spider, adhesive fi ngertips and toes, and a precognitive awareness of danger called “spider-sense.” After inadvertently playing a part in the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that with great power there must also come great responsibility, and now fi ghts crime as the web-slinging, wall-crawling wonder called... MARY JANE! THE RETURN OF Years ago, a mad scientist called the JACKAL cloned Peter Parker and created BEN REILLY, the original Scarlet Spider. Ben fought against him and for a time took up the mantle of the Amazing Spider-Man before sacrifi cing his life to save Peter’s. But his story didn’t end there. In an effort to perfect his cloning technology, the Jackal re-cloned and tortured Ben again and again. Ben snapped, freed himself, and took over as the Jackal, hoping to use the villain’s tech to save the world. Ben created the company New U. Claiming to deliver medical miracles, the company was really replacing ailing patients with near-perfect clones. One of these patients was an employee of Peter’s company, Parker Industries, named Jerry Salteres. Upon meeting the seemingly cured Jerry, Peter’s Spider-Sense went off, prompting him to investigate New U. There, he uncovered the dark truth: Ben has cloned nearly everyone who has died in Spider-Man’s life, from friends and loved ones like Gwen Stacy, Captain Stacy, and Jean DeWolff, to his worst enemies like Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin, hoping to convince Peter to use Parker Industries’ reach to make New U global.

It turns out the death as depicted has its roots in real-world science. • JUMPCHAIN 1000 Spider Points
Greeny / Ver.1.2 JUMPCHAIN Welcome to the Marvel multiverse, jumper. You’ve come at a bad time. Across thousands of different universes, Spider-men and women are being slaughtered by a mysterious family known as the Inheritors. These immensely powerful beings feed off the life force of these so-called ‘Spider Totems’, and seek to rid the multiverse of them entirely. A group of tenacious Spiders now plan to take the war to them, but their victory is far from assured. Whether you intend on joining the Spiders in their fight for survival or teaming up with the Inheritors in their plans for multiversal genocide, you won’t be having an easy time in this world. But hey, at least you won’t be going in empty-handed. You’ve been given: 1000 Spider Points. Green This is a war, jumper, and there are no spectators. Which side are you on? Spider Totems There are plenty of Spider-People across the multiverse, jumper. Most are heroes, some are villains, and a few are something else entirely. Two things bind this misfit group together: their innate connections with the Spider Totem, and their collective desire to avoid an early end at the hands of the Inheritors. As one of these Totems, you may either take the place of an existing universe’s Spider (with the exception of Earth-616) or have a new universe created to which you belong. Either way, you won’t have long to take in the sights before your fellow Spiders find you and recruit you to their cause.
