Conduct of common entrance examination for admission to the following group of programmes

a. M.A Hindi Language & Literature and M.A Functional Hindi & Translation.

b. M.Sc. Applied Plant Science and M.Sc. General Bio-technology.

c. MSc Physics and MSc Radiation Physics.

OBC/OEC candidates are eligible to relaxation up to 5%. SC/ST candidates need only to get a pass mark/grade. In the case of B Com Honours students the minimum eligibility for admission to MCom is 50% for all categories of students. Note:- * The Registration Fee for M.Tech Nanoscience and Technology has been published in the Notification for admission to PG programmes with Entrance Examination 2021-2022.

Admission procedure for M.Tech Nanoscience and Technology : Admission to this course will be based on the marks secured in entrance examination conducted by the University. Syllabus for entrance examination will cover the basic principles related to subject areas Quantum mechanics, Solid State Physics, Thermal Physics, Mechanics, PhysicalChemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Introductory Nanoscience and Electronics.Example: (Semiconductor, Rectifiers, Transistors, MOSFET, JFET, Integrated circuits, Digital electronics, Logic gates. Radioactive decay, Photo- electric effect, self inductance, LCR circuit,Tangent galvanometer, Modulation, Matrix. Electronic effect (resonance, inductive, hyper conjugation) and Steric effects and itsapplications (acid/base property). Optical Isomerism in organic compounds. Hydrocarbons, alkyl halides,alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, amines and their derivatives, Aromatic hydrocarbons, halides,nitro and amino compounds, phenols, diazonium salts, carboxylic acids. Amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids,lipids and carbohydrates. Basics of UV-Vis, IR and NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry).

II. CONDITIONS AND GUIDELINES:-

1. 'Open All Quota' : 10% of sanctioned seats or maximum of 2 seats are created for each course offered at University departments, in adition to the total sanctioned seats, earmarked as 'Open All India Quota' reserved for applicants who are natives of states other than Kerala subject to the following conditions.(U.O No: 3259/2020/Admn dated 11.03.2020)

1.1 If there are no applicants for 'Open All India Quota', the additionally created seats shall be cancelled .

1.2 Communal reservation shall not be made applicable for 'Open All India Quota'.

1.3 Applicants for 'Open All India Quota' shall have to produce a valid nativity certificate issued by competent authority concerned, at the time of admission.

1.4 Candidates under 'Open All India Quota' shall have to fullfill eligibility stipulated for General Category candidates for PG admission.

1.5 Candidates who take admission under 'Open All India Quota' shall submit qualifying Mark list/ Grade cards/ Certificates at the time of admission.

1.6 Candidates under 'Open All India Quota' are exempted from the entrance examinations.

1.7 The fees applicable to general candiadates are applicable to 'Open All India Quota' students.

1.8 Eventhough the Open All India Quota candidates are exempted from entrance examination , The non - english students applying for M.A English shall appear and qualify an eligibility test .

2. The applicants must produce a valid nativity certificate from the competent authority of Kerala at the time of admission to prove that they are natives of Kerala.

3. The ethnic native Lakshadweep candidates are exempted from the entrance examinations based on the sponsorship letter from the Lakshadweep Administration, subject to eligibility (U.O. No:14933/2016/Admn dated 26.12.2016).

5. Candidates coming under SC/ST/OEC/SEBC are not eligible for EWS reservation. Only the general category candidates belonging to the Forward communities, who are economically backward, are eligible for EWS reservation.A community certificate along with AAY Certificate (Annexure I) or the Income & Assets Certificate (below Rs 4 lakh )- Annexure II (Ref: G.O.(Ms) No.128/2020/HEDN Dated 20.03.2020) issued from Village Officers/ Tahasildar should be produced by the candidates who wish to avail of reservation under EWS category at the time of admission. Documents like ration card will not be accepted for availing reservation to this category.

6. Those who are awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply. All candidates including result awaiting students shall submit their Mark List/ Grade Card to prove the eligibilty of qualifying examination with in 30 calendar days after the commencement of classes (U.O No.3272/2021/Admn dated 15.03.2021).

7. In programmes where selection criteria includes interview , Group discussion , Physical test, Aptitude test etc. the same shall be conducted by the concerned departmets before finalising the rank list .

8. The Heads/Co-ordinators are authorized to conduct admissions as per rules and allot students to affiliated colleges/Centres . 9. All candidates seeking admission including those who seek admission under Management quota in affiliated/self financing colleges shall register online and appear for the entrance examination. Admission can only be made from the ranklist prepared by the University including management seat. The candidates who seek admission under management quota shall produce a copy of the print out of the online application at the college where they propose to take admission.

10. No memo will be sent to the candidates in respect of entrance examination, entrance examination result, Counselling etc. Candidates shall update themselves with the University Website (www.cuonline.ac.in) and with the University Press releases for the latest information.

11. Tentative schedule of Entrance examination will be published on the website (www.cuonline.ac.in). Maximum effort will be made to stick to the schedule, but it is liable to change due to unavoidable circumastances.

12. The type of questions shall be objective only, descriptive only or a combination of objective and descriptive questions. If the entrance examination includes objective type questions alone, 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. If it includes combination of objective type and descriptive type questions or descriptive questions only, there will be no negative scores.

13. The syllabus and Question Paper of entrance examination shall be based on the UG Degree syllabus of Calicut University / Eligibility of the course.

14. There will be entrance examination centres at Thrissur , Calicut University-Malappuram, Kozhicode and Palakkad districts. If a student intends to appear for the entrance examination in more than one programme, he/she should opt only a single centre for all the programmes. However the centre opted by an applicant is only his/her option. The University may allot a different Centre either due to shortage of applicants or any other reasons. Actual centre will be allotted by University of Calicut and that will be the final. The exact venue, date and time of the Entrance Examination will be mentioned in the Hall Ticket which has to be downloaded by the applicant from the University admission website.

15. Claim for Communal reservation under ‘Socially and Educationally Backward Classes’ (SEBC): Reservation of seats to the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes will be in accordance with the provisions contained in G.O. (P) 208/66/Edn. Dated 2.5.1966, and G.O. (P) 2/2017BCDD, Dated 8.3.2017 as amended from time to time. Candidates belonging to Ezhava, Muslim, Other Backward Hindus, Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indians and Other Backward Christian communities, claiming reservation under SEBC Quota should invariably produce both community and non-creamy layer certificates obtained from the Village Officer/Thahsildar and should be produced at the time of admission. Candidates whose annual family income is above the amount stipulated by the Govt. for this purpose from time to time are not eligible for reservatiom. The seats unavailed by SEBC category candidates will be allotted under open quota.

16. Claim for Reservation under Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Quota: Candidates claiming reservation under Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes quota should obtain the Caste/Community Certificate from the Tahsildar. The seats unavailed by the SC candidates will go to ST candidates and vice versa.

17. Claim of OEC candidates against the un-availed seats of SC/ST candidates: Other Eligible Community (OEC) candidates who claim allotment to the un-availed seats, if any, under SC/ST quota should furnish Community and Income certificates obtained from the Village Officer concerned. Those OEC candidates whose annual family income is up to the amount stipulated by the Govt. for this purpose from time to time alone are eligible for such seats.

18. EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) :- The seats for EWS will be filled by the University in courses in all affiliated colleges (In all institutions which do not have minority status and allow reservation to other backward classes) from the registered students belonging to Economically Weaker Sections among Forward Community.(U.O.No. 4958/2020/Admn Dated, 29.05.2020 & U.O.No. 7158/2020/Admn Dated,28.07.2020). A community certificate along with AYY Certificate (Annexure I) or the Income & Assets Certificate (below Rs 4 lakh )- Annexure II (Ref: G.O.(Ms) No.128/2020/HEDN Dated 20.03.2020) issued from Village Officers/ Tahasildar should be produced by the candidates who wish to avail of reservation under EWS category at the time of admission. Please see the appendix for Govt. Order G.O.(Ms)No.128/2020/HEDN Dated 20.03.2020 which includes the format for EWS certificate to be obtained from Village Officers.

In all Aided/Self Financing colleges which do not have minority status and allow reservation to other backward classes, ten percent (10%) of the seats for PG self financing programmes will be additionally created and reserved over and above the total strength (sanctioned strength + marginal increase), for the EWS candidates. (U.O.No.7158/2020/Admn Dated, 28.07.2020).

19. The date of commencement of classes in the University Teaching departments/affiliated colleges will be 01.07.2021. Changes if any will be informed through press release / University Website.

20. Mandatory fee: If online allotment is conducted for filling the admission at University Departments/Affiliated Colleges/Centres, Candidates should pay mandatory fee to confirm allotment/ admission. Mandatory Fee :- For SC/ST Candidates, Rs 115/- . For Others- Rs 480/-

21. Candidates applying for Additional PG programmes shall check eligibility and other criteria mentioned in U.O.No. 1195/2021/Admn dated 28.01.2021.

22. Those candidates who had completed their qualifying examination from other Universities shall produce a percentage certificate from the concerned university, if the same is not mentioned in their final grade card / mark list. If they fail to submit the same before the stipulated time, they will not be considered for admission.

23. Calculators are allowed for entrance examination for the programmes M.Sc. Applied Chemistry, Master of Theatre Arts (MTA) and M.Com.

24. No fees other than those prescribed by the University/Govt. shall be levied from the students. (U.O.No:520/2019/Admn dated 14.01.2019 & Circular No:1680/DOA-ASST-2/2015/Admn, dated 08.02.2019).

25. The Fee Structure of the University Dept., Aided/Govt. colleges and Self Financing colleges will be published in the website.

26. Persons with Disabilities who require Scribe for attending entrance examinations shall contact the office of the Controller of Examination , Pareeksha Bhavan, University of Calicut and obtain appropriate orders, prior to the entrance examination.

27. Refund of fee collected: The UGC guidelines for the refund of fees collected from the students at the time of admission, is shown below (as per U.O.No:11428/2018/Admn, dated 29.09.2018).

The seats under community quota shall be reserved for students of the community to which the college belongs and such seats shall be filled on the basis of merit. The seats under management quota shall be filled by the management from among candidates of their choice provided that they satisfy the eligibility condition prescribed by the University.
