The second edition was expanded to include all newly accepted British taxa, and had the following nett changes: British mosses: +50 taxa and +110 names; British liverworts: +4 taxa and +4 names; foreign mosses: +3 taxa and +4 names (having been transferred from the British list). ! The third edition had the following further nett changes: British mosses: +8 taxa and +25 names; British liverworts: +2 taxa and +8 names; non-British mosses: +7 taxa and +8 names (moved from British list); in addition 64 nomenclatural updates, and corresponding text adjustments etc. were made. ! The fourth edition had nomenclatural, reference and text updates etc., and the following nett changes: British mosses: +23 taxa, +73 names; British liverworts: +9 taxa, +19 names; foreign mosses 0 taxa, +1 name; foreign liverworts: +1 taxon, +1 name; altogether 448 more record-units, see Table 1 [p. 20]. Also note substantial dehyphenation of moss names [p. 15], and new sections: Limit to this compilation [p. 7], Cryptic taxa [p. 7], and new Fig. 1. ! Future editions or updates should be sought on the B.B.S. website: http://www.britishbryologicalsociety.org.uk . Currently the fifth edition (4 April 2020, last edited as 5.01, 12 April 2020) has overall: nomenclatural, reference and text updates etc., +8 taxa, +21 English names, +11 preferred names and +23 record units.
