PGY1 : St. Louis College of Pharmacy at UHSP & Mercy St. Louis Learning Experiences

EXPERIENCE LENGTH DESCRIPTION PRECEPTOR(S) Evaluation of “Achieved” in all goals for Required RLS Competency Area R1. Evaluation of “Achieved” in at least 75% of goals for required RLS Outcomes R2, R3, R4, Carmen B. Smith, Pharm.D., BCPS General Longitudinal E5.1, and E6.2). Residency Program Director (RPD) Evaluation of “Satisfactory Progress” or “Achieved” for all program required goals. To complete this experience, residents will actively participate in daily patient care activities associated with two teaching during each five-week rotation: 1 5 weeks 1. Mercy JFK : located within Mercy Hospital and serves as a teaching clinic for residency and programs. Provides medical care, and gynecology, , ENT, general , , , Erica Crannage, Pharm.D., BCPS , pulmonology, and pharmacy. It also provides low-cost prescriptions to Laura Challen, Pharm.D., BCPS uninsured and underinsured patients. Ambulatory Care 2 5 weeks 2. Mercy Clinic Family : a teaching clinic for residency; Serves a diverse patient population with a variety of disease states. This clinic is serviced by 8 faculty and 18 medical residents.

For each five-week rotation, residents will participate in one of two resident teaching teams at Mercy, Family Medicine and . Each team consists of a faculty Acute Care 1 5 weeks attending , 2-3 medical residents, M3 or M4 medical student, 2 pharmacy students, a clinical pharmacist, and the assigned pharmacy resident. Teaching teams are responsible for 9-12 patients each. Andrew Crannage, Pharm.D., BCPS Erin Hennessey, Pharm.D., BCPS Pharmacy residents will develop an interactive role with the team and patients by Carmen Smith, Pharm.D., BCPS participating in daily patient care rounds and providing patient-specific pharmaceutical care. This experience will broaden the resident’s understanding of the pathophysiology Acute Care 2 5 weeks and pharmacotherapy of various disease states through direct patient care, literature review, and/or topic discussions. The resident will also provide drug information and education to healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers.

Residents will round with an interdisciplinary critical care team. Daily participation in patient rounds and provision of patient-specific pharmaceutical care will help residents in Critical Care 5 weeks developing an interactive role with both patients and their team. PGY1 Pharmacy Residency: St. Louis College of Pharmacy & Mercy Hospital St. Louis Learning Experiences

EXPERIENCE LENGTH DESCRIPTION PRECEPTOR(S)

Residents will round with an interdisciplinary team. Prior to and following rounds, residents will consult with the pharmacy preceptor to discuss patients and therapies. Daily participation in patient rounds and provision of patient-specific pharmaceutical care Infectious Diseases 5 weeks Alex Bryant, Pharm.D. will help residents develop an interactive role with both patients and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Residents will also be exposed to and expected to become familiar with a diverse range of disease states and associated antimicrobial therapies.

To complete the Practice Management rotation, residents will actively participate in four (4) Mercy Committees: Stewardship, P&T, Medication Safety, and Quality Practice Improvement; as well as attend a minimum of one School of Pharmacy meeting at the RPD & Longitudinal Management College. Residents are also expected to participate in the interviewing and recruitment Joy Abu-Shanab, Pharm.D., BCPS process for 2017-2018 resident candidate(s) during and after the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting

Medication Use Residents will complete orientation to inpatient pharmacy at Mercy as well as complete Longitudinal TBD Process weekly staffing responsibilities.

Residents are expected to complete one residency research project, with assistance from an assigned mentor, throughout the year. Residents are expected to complete the research process by: Residency Longitudinal - obtaining IRB approval Assigned Mentor Research Project (1 project) - collecting data - preparation of an abstract/poster - presenting results - drafting a manuscript/report

During this experience, residents will deliver a formal seminar, one Internal Medicine (IM) Drug Information Noon Conference and/or one Family Medicine Pharmacotherapy lecture. Residents will also complete in-services as assigned.

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency: St. Louis College of Pharmacy & Mercy Hospital St. Louis Learning Experiences

Presentations presentations presentations will be presented to and evaluated by the program director, preceptors, peers, and/or students.

Resident Education Academy (REA) is a course provided by the College that prepares residents for academic leadership roles. The course is divided into two semesters: during the first semester, residents will attend discrete workshops to learn the fundamentals of Resident Education Longitudinal teaching and precepting; the second semester will allow students to teach a lecture at the Assigned Mentor Academy College and assume all related responsibilities. Residents will prepare lecture slides and exam questions while integrating feedback from their peers and mentors. Residents will also provide direct feedback to students through graded exams and assignments.

Ongoing Residents will participate in additional teaching responsibilities at STLCOP. These Additional resident during both responsibilities include: teaching fall and - Serving as an instructor for Skills Lab III or V experiences spring - Precepting students enrolled in an Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience semesters - Delivering at least one (1) student-level topic discussion
