5.1 Über Die Deutschen Forschungsaktivitäten in Den Polarregionen 5 FORSCHUNG, GEFÄHRDUNG UND SCHUTZ
Aus: Lozán, J.L., H.Grassl, D.Notz & D.Piepenburg (2014): WARNSIGNAL KLIMA: Die Polarregionen. Wis- senschaftliche Auswertungen, Hamburg. 376 Seiten.

93 Fari Dismessi. Dall'abbandono Alla
Annali del Turismo, V, 2016, n.1 Edizioni Geoprogress FARI DISMESSI. DALL’ABBANDONO ALLA RIGENERAZIONE Antonietta Ivona Abstract Lighthouses decommissioned. From abandonment to regeneration. - The Italian legislation on cultural heritage introduced, a few years ago, the concept of enhancement and enjoyment of cultural heritage through the outsourcing of cultural assistance and hospitality services for the public. Particularly, the national Project "Valore Paese" of the Agenzia del Demanio is dedicated to lighthouses and it intends to encourage the promotion of the Italian public real estate through the synergy between the sectors of tourism, art and culture, economic and territorial cohesion. In this sense, the recovery of public assets owned by the State and local authorities has the possibility to be considered not only in terms of cost to the community, but also as a significant lever for territorial and social development, in a logic of public- private partnership. 1. -
Representations of Antarctic Exploration by Lesser Known Heroic Era Photographers
Filtering ‘ways of seeing’ through their lenses: representations of Antarctic exploration by lesser known Heroic Era photographers. Patricia Margaret Millar B.A. (1972), B.Ed. Patricia Margaret Millar Date ii Abstract Photographers made a major contribution to the recording of the Heroic Era of Antarctic exploration. By far the best known photographers were the professionals, Herbert Ponting and Frank Hurley, hired to photograph British and Australasian expeditions. But a great number of photographs were also taken on Belgian, German, Swedish, French, Norwegian and Japanese expeditions. These were taken by amateurs, sometimes designated official photographers, often scientists recording their research. Apart from a few Pole-reaching images from the Norwegian expedition, these lesser known expedition photographers and their work seldom feature in the scholarly literature on the Heroic Era, but they, too, have their importance. They played a vital role in the growing understanding and advancement of Antarctic science; they provided visual evidence of their nation’s determination to penetrate the polar unknown; and they played a formative role in public perceptions of Antarctic geopolitics. -
The Gordian Knot: American and British Policy Concerning the Cyprus Issue: 1952-1974
THE GORDIAN KNOT: AMERICAN AND BRITISH POLICY CONCERNING THE CYPRUS ISSUE: 1952-1974 Michael M. Carver A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of The requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2006 Committee: Dr. Douglas J. Forsyth, Advisor Dr. Gary R. Hess ii ABSTRACT Douglas J. Forsyth, Advisor This study examines the role of both the United States and Great Britain during a series of crises that plagued Cyprus from the mid 1950s until the 1974 invasion by Turkey that led to the takeover of approximately one-third of the island and its partition. Initially an ancient Greek colony, Cyprus was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in the late 16th century, which allowed the native peoples to take part in the island’s governance. But the idea of Cyprus’ reunification with the Greek mainland, known as enosis, remained a significant tenet to most Greek-Cypriots. The movement to make enosis a reality gained strength following the island’s occupation in 1878 by Great Britain. Cyprus was integrated into the British imperialist agenda until the end of the Second World War when American and Soviet hegemony supplanted European colonialism. Beginning in 1955, Cyprus became a battleground between British officials and terrorists of the pro-enosis EOKA group until 1959 when the independence of Cyprus was negotiated between Britain and the governments of Greece and Turkey. The United States remained largely absent during this period, but during the 1960s and 1970s came to play an increasingly assertive role whenever intercommunal fighting between the Greek and Turkish-Cypriot populations threatened to spill over into Greece and Turkey, and endanger the southeastern flank of NATO. -

“PARCO DELLA LAGUNA” Relazione Introduttiva Alle Schede
