    Tanglewood Baldwin & Tanglewood Celebrating A 61 -Year Musical Partnership | This season marks Baldwin's 61 st anniversary with Tanglewood. This very special association runs deep into trie Histories of both organizations. It began when Lucien Wulsin II, president of Baldwin during trie 1920s and 30s, met Serge Koussevitzky, trie renowned Russian conductor and music director of trie BSO. Koussevitzlcy was involved with Tanglewood from its inception and founded the Serge Koussfvitziky (above) Berkshire Music Center in 1940. Lucien Wulsin II (left) Wulsin, whose family had French- European roots, became good friends with Koussevitzky, who had lived in France in the early 1920s. It was this friendship, combined with noted Baldwin piano quality, that initiated the time-honored Baldwin-Tanglewood tradition. Since those early years, Baldwin has been the piano of choice for Tanglewood and many of its visionary leaders and alumni, including Charles Munch, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Lukas Foss, Charles Dutoit and Seiji Ozawa. Today, the Baldwin tradition continues to grow with celebrated Tanglewood conductors Keith Lockhart and Robert Spano hecommg Baldwin Artists in recent years. This season, Baldwin pianos will share the stage at Tanglewood's orchestral and chamber music instrumental and vocal recitals, student performar the Festival of Contemporary Music, and performances by popular and jazz artists.     Oddur Jónsson

    ODDUR JÓNSSON Oddur Jónsson is a Britten-Pears Young Artist and one of the most significant vocal talents to have emerged from Iceland in a generation. He recently appeared as Michael in Daníel Bjarnason’s acclaimed new opera Brothers, an award-winning production staged by Kasper Holten, and was named Most Promising Artist at the 2015 Icelandic Music Awards. That same year Oddur made his Paris debut singing Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde at the Palais Garnier in a new staging by John Neumeier. Roles at the Icelandic Opera have included Rodrigo in Don Carlo, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, the title role in Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Schaunard in La bohème, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Prince Yeletsky in Pique Dame, Ned Keene in Peter Grimes, Kaiser Overall in Ullmann’s Kaiser von Atlantis and Oreste in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride. Oddur is a prizewinning oratorio and lieder singer. His oratorio repertoire includes Bach’s Passions, B minor Mass, Christmas Oratorio and cantatas including Ich habe genug and Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen in addition to Handel’s Messiah and Solomon, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria. As a recitalist he has sung Schubert’s Winterreise and Schwanengesang, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Schumann’s Liederkreis and Brahms’s Liebeslieder Walzer. In 2014 Oddur was awarded the Lied, Oratorio Performer and Schubert Prizes at the Francesc Viñas Competition in Barcelona and in 2013 he won first prize in the International Brahms Competition in Pörtschach, Austria.

    IGNAT SOLZHENITSYN 2019-20 SHORT BIO {206 WORDS} IGNAT SOLZHENITSYN Recognized as one of today's most gifted artists, and enjoying an active career as both conductor and pianist, Ignat Solzhenitsyn's lyrical and poignant interpretations have won him critical acclaim throughout the world. Principal Guest Conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Laureate of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Ignat Solzhenitsyn has recently led the symphonies of Baltimore, Cincinnati, Dallas, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Seattle, and Toronto, the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Czech National Symphony, as well as the Mariinsky Orchestra and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. He has partnered with such world-renowned soloists as Richard Goode, Gary Graffman, Gidon Kremer, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Garrick Ohlsson, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Mitsuko Uchida. His extensive touring schedule in the United States and Europe has included concerto performances with numerous major orchestras, including those of Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Seattle, Baltimore, Montreal, Toronto, London, Paris, Israel, and Sydney, and collaborations with such distinguished conductors as Herbert Blomstedt, James Conlon, Charles Dutoit, Valery Gergiev, André Previn, Gerard Schwarz, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Yuri Temirkanov and David Zinman. I couldn’t believe from the beginning of the first song it could possibly get any more ecstatic and full of emotion, and yet it did. It was a short step from there to Strauss opera for me, and with the birth of YouTube I sat until the early hours of many a morning in my tiny room at Edinburgh University, listening to, watching and obsessing over Der Rosenkavalier’s final trio and presentation of the rose.
