Designed to promote agriculture in Baltimore County, the event was 14 Wine Country named the Timonium Fair and hosted an array of competitions that showcased the area’s fi nest 16 Breweries farm goods, livestock, and homemade wares. While exhibitors vied for prizes in a variety of A Horse Lover’s Haven contests, the Fair also became a social epicenter, 18 delighting visitors with whimsical entertainment, rides, games and treats, thrilling horse races and 20 Fun for the Whole Family agriculture education. The Fair was interrupted twice during WWII when the grounds were used 22 Serving Up Local Flavor as a U.S. Army storage depot and vehicle repair center. 24 A Shopper’s Delight One hundred and thirty-four fairs later, that fl edgling local event has grown into the Maryland State Fair, a vibrant summer celebration on 106 26 The Great Outdoors acres that attracts almost half a million visitors each year.
