 Folsom Dam (Sacramento County) – Folsom Dam and reservoir, operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, is located on the American River and is a part of the State Water Project in the central valley. The Folsom reservoir catches runoff from the extensive American River watershed and is a key flood control structure protecting the Sacramento metropolitan area.

Branch III Annex Page 5

Northern CA Catastrophic Flood Response Plan

Located about 25 miles northeast of Sacramento along the American River, Folsom Dam is a 340 foot high concrete dam flanked by long earthen wing dams extending to high ground at either end and holds over a million acre-feet of water in Folsom Lake. Although its primary function is flood control, Folsom stores water for irrigation and domestic use and electrical power generation.

 Port of Stockton (San Joaquin County) is located in the Central Valley on the San Joaquin River, 70 nautical miles east of San Francisco. The Port of Stockton is strategically located within one of the world’s most productive agricultural regions, which makes the port an important distribution point for crop nutrients on the West Coast.

The Port of Stockton is California’s largest inland deep-water port in acreage. The port covers approximately 4,200 acres. In California, only the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles exceed the size of the Port of Stockton. Stockton is the second busiest inland port after Portland on the West Coast. Ships access the port through and passage up the San Joaquin River. The Port of Stockton is a commercial port capable of servicing over 70 percent of the world’s vessel fleet. Facilities and terminals include two berths for the loading of bulk materials such as coal, petroleum coke, sulfur, and bulk molasses. Specialized cranes can handle several steel commodities such as coils, beams, and pipe.

The BNSF and the Union Pacific (UP) railroads serve the Port of Stockton. The port also offers several trucking entry points from the adjacent interstate (Interstate 5 and State Highway 4). Interstate 80 is located 50 miles north of the port.
