The diversity of Western Australian production was once again demonstrated in 2000-2001. On the drama front, the feature film Let’s Get Skase, drama series WildKat, animation series Quads and indigenous series Mary G Show in addition to a number of short dramas, demonstrated world class Western Australian drama production. WA’s reputation for quality international documentary production was strengthened by programs such as Playing the Game, Animal X Series II, Painting Country and Selling Australia. In March 2001, ScreenWest proudly hosted the International Documentary Conference in Perth, assisting WA producers to network with international co-producers and buyers. I am pleased to see that the WA Government has acknowledged that the screen industry is an important part of our cultural activity in the State, through the Arts Policy commitment to move to implement the recommendations of the Screen Industry Taskforce Report “Content is the Key”.
