Looking at the timeline my story now begins in 1890 with the formaon of ECRU. Moving quickly forward over a span of 70 years a die was cast when I first picked up a rugby ball at school in my nave North East of England. Following career moves I fortuitously relocated with my wife to the Eastern Counes where, continuing withmy interestin thegame, Iparcipated ina volunteeringrole, befo re being appointed, fora four year spell, as Chairman of the HadleighClub in the Town where I live. I have also been involved with Suffolk RU where I served as President during the per iod 2006-09. Following these exper iences, the jump to Eastern Counes was an easy deci sion which led to an invo lvement with Coachin g, Community Rugby and the Discipline Panel. For the past seven years I have chaired the Club Development Commiee encouraging Clubs to improve the rugby exper ience for their memberships. It has been very satisfying to be part of a commied team that has helped facilitate this process. It was an honour to be voted in as the 43rd President of ECRU at our Annual General Meetin g in June. I am now charged to act, for a two-year period, as an ambassador for a union of 52 clubs with a total member ship approachin g 50,000. This is an excitin g although at the same time a daunting prospect . Ian Forton my predeces sor worked hard to maintain standards and to promote positive links with Clubs. It is my intention to continue in this vein. At the beginn ing of a new rugby year I must take the opportunity to draw aention to the aimsof ECRU whichar e to govern, promote anddevelop Rugby inthe Eastern Counes, maintain the games core values and to ensure our sport remains enjoyable for all.We all respect these objectives. However, Iknow that many of our Clubs are facing strong challenges in their efforts to develop within their communities in an increasingly competitive and dema nding world. There is no doubt in my mind that to encourage greater participation and to secure the sustain ability of our sport we must all take steps, in our own way, to heighten the rugby exper ience at our Clubs to make them more aractive to our local communities. With this thought I wish you all a thoroughly enjoyable and successful season. 5 | P a g e MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE 2019-2020 President John Winders (2011) 01473 824 359 07972 388 028 Development@e crurugby.com Chairman Alasdair Bovaird (2014) 30 Beeches Close, Saffron Walden CB11 4BT 01799 523 578 07711 484 582 [email protected] Hon Secretary Robert Temple (2015) 8 Marlbor ough Rd, Southwold IP18 6LR 01502 723 051 07917 025 463 [email protected] Hon Treasurer/Chair Finance & Funding Pamela Clarke (2012) 162 Angel Rd Norwich NR3 3JB 07775 523 689 Treasurer@ecrurugb y.com RFU Council Member Roger Pierson (2005) 81 Rectory Lane, Poringland NR14 7SJ 01508 493 085 07974 619 114 rogerpiers on@btinter net.com 6 | P a g e Cambs Representative Steve Drawbridge (2010) 07515 119605 CambsRep@ ecrurugby. com Norfolk Representative

  • Edition 10: 20Th September 2013
Edition 10: 20th September 2013 Rugby World Cup 2015 Lead Up and Legacy Activity The RFU launched the seven strands of its national Lead up and Legacy plan on October 31st 2012. The aim of this is to set out an overall framework against which national resource will be invested in the lead up to RWC 2015 with the aim of increasing interest and participation in the game. Whilst many Clubs, CBs, Schools, Colleges, Universities and other bodies are working hard to develop local projects to meet identified local need these seven strands are areas in which we will invest national resource to create change in Rugby communities across the country. It is hoped that those delivery bodies that have not yet identified their focus will focus in on these areas and take action to improve provision and opportunities against these themes. Six Regional Activation and Legacy Groups are now up and running and are working to add value to the seven strands and to engage partners from outside of the immediate rugby community in supporting the efforts of those within it. Each group is populated by representatives from CBs and from the wider community. Attached as an appendix to this CB update is a brief overview of progress against the seven strands along with listings of clubs/projects etc involved to date – this will be updated for each issue. In addition to the work against the seven strands strong working relationships have been established with England Rugby 2015, the Organising Body for the tournament itself, and an update on relevant areas are also included in the appendix.

Colours: Red & Black Chairman’s Foreword Welcome to the new County Handbook which I hope you will find to be a useful source of valuable information about our County and our Clubs. I hope that you find the fixture lists a useful feature, enabling you to support our Bucks Clubs. Please also refer to our Website: bucksrfu.pitchero.com This site holds all the relevant information and news about Bucks Rugby. Please contact the Webmaster if you have any information or news that needs to be shared. Remember, the website is only as good as its content so let’s all contribute! The season 2015/16 was again a huge success for Rugby in the County with the Bucks U 20 XV reaching the semi-final of the county plate competition and the senior XV also getting to the semi- final of their competition. This is the furthest either team have reached in the County’s history. As a County we seem to produce some very talented players, and this is very much down to the Clubs and Schools in our area being “Development” focused and ensuring that the most talented get the exposure they deserve. We intend as County to continue this theme every season and ensure that as many players as possible have the opportunity to play at their highest potential level.

Seasonal felicitations to you all & welcome back to Silver Leys for our first game of the New Year, one which holds great promise for our club. Welcome also to the players, officials and supporters of todays opponents Cinderford RFC. ‘2016’ has received a lot of bad press but it was pretty good to us! Bonus point victories in our last four games whilst others surprisingly dropped points, meant we finished the year on top of the heap, which was an unexpected and very pleasant early Christmas present. Last time out here we overcame a spirited Exmouth team 38-7. They certainly didn’t play like they were bottom of the table, which illustrates the competitive nature of this league. In the pre-Christmas game at Bury St Edmunds, our large and vociferous band of travelling supporters helped negate any benefit the Suffolk side may have expected by being at home. Ultimately though games are won and lost on the pitch and once again our guys produced a polished performance to run out comfortable 33-16 winners.
