    Railway Budget 07-08 Speech of Shri Lalu Prasad February 26, 2007 Introducing the Railway Budget 2007-2008 Mr Speaker Sir, Presenting my fourth consecutive Railway Budget, I have a tremendous sense of pride and gratitude. Pride in the fact that without imposing undue burden on the common man, the Railways are poised to create history by generating a cash surplus before Dividend of Rs 20,000 cr as against Rs 14,700 cr in the previous year. This is the same Railway that defaulted on payment of Dividend and whose fund balances dipped to Rs 359 cr in 2001. I express heartfelt gratitude towards 14 lakh railway employees who in the face of stiff competition have conquered all odds with an indomitable spirit displaying matchless zeal, vigour and teamwork. Sir, Lord Krishna was acclaimed as Giridhar when in a moment of crisis he lifted Mount Govardhan on his finger. However, he did this with the supporting hands of thousands of fellow villagers. Even though people are giving me the credit for the turnaround of the Railways, with all humility I would like to share with the august House that this miracle has been brought about through the tireless efforts of 14 lakh railway employees and unbounded affection and support of my country men. Sir, I would just say: Navajis hai sabki, karam hai sabhi ka, Bade fakhra se ham bulandi par aaye. Tarakki ke sare mayaron se aage, Naye dhang laaye, nayee soch laaye. 2 By rendering an unprecedented surplus inspite of the reduction in passenger fares, we have disproved the myth that Railways were sinking in to a financial crisis due to social obligations.

    Speech of Mamata Banerjee introducing the Railway Budget 2011-12 25th February 2011 1. Madam Speaker, I rise to present before this august House the Revised Estimates for 2010-11 and the estimated receipts and expenditure for 2011-12. I deem it an honour to present the third Railway Budget under the kind guidance of the hon'ble Prime Minister. I profusely thank the Finance Minster for his continued support and encouragement to the railways. 2. As the hon’ble members are aware, the wheels of the railways continue to move 24 hours, all 365 days. Railway’s services are comparable to emergency services, required all the time. I am proud of the 14 lakh members of my railway family, who toil day and night with unparalleled dedication. I am also grateful to all passengers without whose cooperation and consideration, we could not have run this vast system. I have also received unstinted support from our two recognised federations and staff and officers’ associations. 3. Madam, rail transportation is vitally interlinked with the economic development of the country. With the economy slated to grow at a rate of 8-9%, it is imperative that the railways grow at an even faster pace. I see the railways as an artery of this pulsating nation. Our lines touch the lives of humble people in tiny villages, as they touch the lives of those in the bustling metropolises. 4. We are taking a two-pronged approach, scripted on the one hand, by a sustainable, efficient and rapidly growing Indian Railways, and on the other, by an acute sense of social responsibility towards the common people of this nation.

    Kasi Viswanath Temple http://www.shrikashivishwanath.org/en/myth/shivling.aspx Shiva The Supreme: Shiva Linga, The Mandala ** The frame of the cosmic reality, according to ancient Hindu thought, consists of the three fundamental states called evolution (Shrishthi), existence (sthiti), and involution (samhara) that acts in a cyclic process of infinity. Each one of the forms is controlled by a God, named Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Siva/Shiva (the destroyer); these three Gods are called the Trinity. Shiva, being the last to complete the cycle from where the new cycle starts, is known as Mahadeo, the Supreme Divinity. The iconographic form of the Shiva, the Linga represents the unity of the three states of cosmos (shown in above figure).The Linga consists of the three parts. The first is a square base of three-layers at the bottom showing the three mythical realms (lokas), symbolizing evolution the place of Brahma. The second is an octagonal round form in the middle showing the eight directions, symbolizing existence or perseverance the place of Vishnu; and third is a cylinder at the top with a spherical end, symbolizing involution or completion of the cosmic cycle the place of Shiva.     6.0 Activities of the Board, Objectives, Functions & Priorities 6.1 Objectives The major objectives of the Board are centred around the Pollution Control and the protection of the environmental quality. These are outlined as under: • Bring about all round improvement in the quality of the environment in the State by effective implementation of the laws. • Control of pollution at source to the maximum extent possible with due regard to technological achievement and economic viability as well as sensitivity of the receiving environment. This objective is being fulfilled through laying down the disposal standards as well as gaseous emission standards. • Identifications of sites and development of procedures and methods for the disposal of hazardous wastes. • Maximisation of re-use and re-cycle of sewage and trade effluent on land for irrigation and for industrial purpose after giving appropriate treatment and thereby economising and saving on the use of water. The practice also helps in stopping pollution of water due to reduction in discharges of waste into water bodies. • Minimisation of adverse effect of pollution by selecting suitable locations for the establishment of new industrial projects. • Co-ordination with other agencies of the State Government and local authorities to encourage the Common Effluent Treatment Plants and Treatment Stabilisation Disposal Facilities. • Close co-ordination and rapport with educational institutions, non government organisations, Industries Associations, Government organisations, etc. to create environmental
