Wroxham FC were established in 1892 by GE Preston, a former captain of the Norfolk County team, and initially played on Wroxham Park. The club played friendly matches until joining the East Norfolk League and the Norwich City Junior League. In 1935 they joined the East Anglian League, before dropping down to the Norwich and District League in the 1950s, a time during which they suffered a record 24-0 defeat. In 1963 the club became founder members of the . A successful spell during the mid-1970s saw the club rise through the divisions. In 1975 the club won its first major trophy, the Norfolk Junior Cup. The following season they won Division Two, and the season after, Division One. In 1981 the club won the Knock-Out Cup, and in 1981-82 they won the Premier Division, retaining the title in 1982-83, 1983-84 and 1984-85, also winning the knock-out cup in 1983 and 1985. They did another league and cup double in 1986-87 In 1988 the club joined the newly formed Division One of the Eastern Counties League. They won the division in their first season, beating Halstead Town to the title on goal difference. After finishing twelfth in their first season in the Premier Division, the club have never finished lower than eighth. They won the title with a record 99 points in 1991-92, before beating their own record with 100 points and another title the following season, the club’s centenary, in which they also won the League Cup and the Norfolk Senior Cup. In 1993-94 they won a third consecutive title. After a gap of two seasons, the club won the Premier Division again with 109 points in 1996-97, also winning the Senior Cup again. They retained the title and the Senior Cup in 1997-98, before winning the League for a third time in a row in 1998-99. Wroxham won the Norfolk Senior Cup again in 2000, 2002, 2004, the Premier Division in 2006-07, and the Senior Cup again in 2008. In 2009-10 the club reached the final of the FA Vase but lost 6-1 to holders Whitley Bay. In 2015, in a thrilling Norfolk Senior Cup Final, they beat local rivals Dereham Town 3-2 after extra time. Since the club was formed, Wroxham F.C. have played at several venues. The first was just off Norwich Road and subsequent grounds were at The Avenue and Keys Hill. The Avenue ground has now reverted to agricultural use, whilst the others have been built upon. Around the time of World War II, Wroxham moved to their current ground, Trafford Park, a field close to the railway line in Skinners Lane. The club took with them an old timber pavilion that was erected and used as a primitive clubhouse. Fifteen years later this was replaced by prefabricated buildings, which were themselves flattened to make way for a new permanent clubhouse that was opened in 1994. The current main stand, the Les King Stand, was built in 1990, replacing an earlier structure that had stood on the same site for around 10 years. The capacity at Trafford Park is 2,000 but the record attendance to date is 1,262 for the FA Vase semi-final against Whitehawk in 2010. Wroxham finally took the opportunity to take promotion to Step 4 joining the Isthmian Division 1 North in season 2012/13 and played for 5 seasons with mixed fortunes. COLOUR Our Opponents History - Continued

After a disappointing 2016-17 season, The Yachtsmen returned to Step 5 with a new management team of Ross Potter & Tom Parke. After a promising start the team were soon out of the prestigious FA Cup failing for the first time in 22 years to get past the first hurdle. Form dipped around mid-season as the more experienced partnership of Jamie Godbold & Andy Reynolds were brought in. While we reached the semi-final of the League Cup, eventually losing to Brantham Athletic, League form remained erratic and we finished 13th in the table. This was the lowest finish we have ever had in the Eastern Counties Premier Division. Goldbold & Reynolds shocked the club by announcing they would be leaving to join their old club Lowestoft Town. The Board acted quickly by appointing Reserve Manager Jordan Southgate assisted by ex-Norwich City Hall of Fame player Adam Drury, to take charge. They put together a youthful squad an finished a credible 7th in 2018/19. Behind the scenes Club Chairman Lee Robson has done an amazing job developing a Wroxham Juniors section with teams at most age group from U7 to U18. With a strong Academy and U18’s we hope to develop players who want to play the Wroxham way for the future. Wroxham saw Women’s football for the first time at the Club with an Eastern Region Premier Division team (formerly Acle United) gracing Trafford Park. 2019/20 saw the Yachtsmen finish the truncated campaign in fifth place (although the League subsequently declared all results void) having hovered around the runner-up spot for much of the season, conceding only 18 goals in 25 matches – a total bettered only by table-topping Stowmarket Town. However, the Club’s major successes of the season came in the FA Vase with a run to the quarter final. Two home attendances of around 1000, against Stowmarket Town in the 5th Round and Bitton AFC in the quarter final, generated much local interest and raised the profile of the Club regionally. Prior to the cessation of all football the Yachtsmen were defeated by Dereham Town in the semi-final of the Norfolk Senior Cup. The 2020/21 campaign was also curtailed by COVID despite us leading the table with 10 straight wins. With some exciting young signings, allied to the experience already at the Club, it is hoped that the progress of the past two seasons can be maintained and bettered.

Good Afternoon everyone and welcome to the Morrish Stadium for this afternoons Thurlow Nunn Premier Division Fixture with Wroxham. Its great to back playing football again without restrictions but we all need to be vigilant as the pandemic seems to be affecting us greatly in East Anglia at the moment. There are people within the club who have suffered from covid in recent times and I wish you all a full and complete recovery. Hopefully the third wave will soon reach its peak and those affected are protected by their jabs. It's difficult to be positive with everything that's going on around us all but I am looking forward to todays fixture with great anticipation and optimisum. We have enjoyed a good pre season and have had good wins over Diss Town, Histon and Bury Town. We lost 2-0 at home to Lowestoft Town but put in a very positive performance against opposition two leagues above us. We start against many peoples favourites to win the league this season as Wroxham were top when the season was curtailed in December. They are always difficult to beat and eell organised and it will be the same again today but it will also provide a great test to see how far Trev Collins Young guns have come on under his guidance. They certainly thrilled us with their performances last season and we look forward to more of the same this time around. Everything points to an interesting watch this afternoon. Last season Wroxham lost their fixture secretary Ray Bayles. He also was the Thurlow Nunns Youth league registration officer and I got to know him very well . He was a lovely man who will be greatly missed not just by his family and close friends but also by the many people who got to know him from the non League football community. Rest in peace Ray you will be sadly missed by us all. Next week we are on our travels to Swaffham in the FA Cup. We all know what happened last season and we will be desperate to play in this competition again to erase the memory of having to drop out of last year's tournament without kicking a ball in anger. Enjoy the game today Gordon

The Football Association has recently advised leagues within the National League System of the regulations relating to promotion and relegation to be applied at the end of the 2021 -22 season. A brief summary would be: Eastern Counties League Premier Division: the winners will be promoted to Step 4 the club finishing second will take part in a one-off play-off match against a side finishing either 3rd or 4th bottom in a Step 4 division. The match will be on the ground of the Step 4 club with the winners playing at Step 4 in season 2022-23 the clubs finishing in the bottom two places will be relegated to Step 6. Eastern Counties League First Division North and First Division South: the winners will be promoted to Step 5 in each division the clubs finishing second will play at home to the clubs finishing fifth and the clubs finishing third will be at home to the clubs finishing fourth. The winners of those two matches will play a further match on the ground of the clubs that finished highest during the normal season with the winners being promoted to Step 6 the clubs finishing in the bottom three places will be liable to relegation to Step 7 subject to the appropriate number of clubs being promoted from feeder leagues and vacancies.

Introducing Our Lads For The 2021/22 Season

Trevor Collins - Manager - Had 2 games as caretaker manager: a vastly experienced former Bury Town player who turned to management under Richard Wilkins. Was caretaker manager for two games in October 2019 the 2nd of which saw him mastermind an excellent victory in the Suffolk Premier Cup away to Whitton United. Made his debut as full time manager in March 2020 against former club Bury Town before Covid 19 brought the season to a premature end. We have seen positive signs last season that Trev can create a young exciting team for Walsham supporters to be proud of. The 3 months of football saw some excellent exciting football and we were 4th in the league when covid closed the season for good.

Trevor Newman - Assistant Manager - First played for the first team back in 1994-05. Became a regular in 1995-06 and scored the vital goal which kept us in the SIL Senior Division that season otherwise we may never have made it this far. Won two Omnico cups with Walsham before joining Bury Town where he spent three seasons before re-joining us and became our regular captain. Led us into the Eastern Counties League in 2004 and was captain when we won the Suffolk Senior Cup in 2006 and the Division One Title a year later. Retired from 1st team football at the end of 2013-14. Became assistant to Paul Smith in the 2017/18 season and a year later became the boss following Paul’s resignation a year later. Led the side to a top half finish. A poor start to the season before last saw him resign at the end of September 2019 but he readily returned in March 2000 to assist his good friend. They are former Bury Town teammates.

Martin Lash - Physio - Martin was bought in to the first team picture by Chris Soames. His enthusiasm, knowledge of treatments and ability to lighten the mood make him a very valuable member of the team. Organising the match day kit, balls etc. is a massive part and a great help. Martin also has his level two goalkeepers coaching badge. Terrible dress sense on a night out occasionally makes it past 10.30 PM Graham Styles- Management Assistant - Nobby as he is better known has been involved with the first team set up for over twenty years now. A big, big Ipswich fan who cannot spell Norwich properly. Good fun on a night out. Ryan Clark - Midfield - Ryan arrived from Felixstowe in 2015. Brilliant on the ball and can be one of our best assets for years to come. Ryan has settled in brilliantly, he just hasn't bought a round or sang a song yet. The quality this boy brings onto the pitch we may let him off the song. Very skilful performer. Just ask Godmanchester's left back. In 2018/19 he enjoyed a short spell with Stowmarket Town before returning to the fold for the 2019-20 season Ryan Twinn - Midfield - A player who graduated from the under 18s. Attacking midfielder who scores vital goals. A former graduate of our under 18s. Steve Fenner – Goalkeeper – Has re-joined from Debenham. Yet another of our former under 18’s and in my view the best young keeper we have produced. Had an excellent season on his return from Debenham in 2018/19 but missed alot of the following season through injury. Back to very best last season. In my opinion there is no better keeper in the league back to his very best last season Matthew Collins - Midfield- Young player with a lot of promise. Played for Mildenhall before signing for us prior to the 2018/19 season .Settled quickly before suffering a major injury which kept him out for most of that season.
