Good afternoon and welcome to today's CNet Training fixture against local rivals Waveney FC. They beat us at their place last week and it would be great to see us come through today and have a decent run in the competition. On Tuesday night our opponents lost out 2-0 to Mundford in the Mummery Cup Final the final being held over from last season, so I am sure they will be looking to put that result behind them today. There have been a few coming and goings in the past few weeks and I am pleased to see young players such as Tom Harmer returning from Kirkley and this week should see Kurt Hodges joining from Harleston. Following our latest update from the FA we ask that if you are using the stand to wear a mask and whilst spectating around the ground please ensure that you aren't gathering in groups and maintain the appropriate social distance. Enjoy the afternoon and please stay safe. Yours in Sport Mark Jermey Chairman (Senior Chairman)

www.pce-group.com Managers Update…..

Good afternoon everyone and a warm welcome to all those associated with today's opponents Waveney FC. We hope you enjoy your afternoon with us and welcome you to join us for a socially distanced drink after the game. We go into todays game on the back of 2 defeats unfortunately, last weeks loss was to today's opponents so we will be looking to put that right today. It seems scoring goals is not an issue for us at the moment, it's giving away cheap goals at the other end which is frustrating and it's through us making too many individual errors through bad decisions or poor execution. At least we pretty much guarantee an entertaining watch so for those here today, you are pretty much certain to see goals and I suppose that's what it's about for those venturing out on a Saturday afternoon. We've made some excellent signings over the last week or so with bringing in what we feel is the best young talent in the area. Over the last few days, we've managed to capture the signing of Kurt Hodges from Harleston Town. Kurt is a local lad and at 19, he is definitely one for the future and I'm confident he can already hold his own in our first team. We've also managed to sign another young talent in Alex Husband. For those that keenly follow Beccles Town, you will know Alex has previously been at the club playing in our U18's a few years ago but now has returned and also at 19, he is also a talented individual who we are delighted to have at the club. These two players join Tom Harmer who has returned from Kirkley but will be absent from today's game due to a foot injury picked up last week. Tom is a tenacious full back who will certainly be a fans favourite with his commitment and full blooded tackles down his side. If we then throw in Ryan Newman and Keats Staines to this group of U20's you could definitely say the future is starting to look very positive. We welcome back Liam Harvey Cooper today after missing the last couple of games with an ankle injury picked up in our last home game against Blofield. Liam's return is a big boost as he is such a key player to the squad and certainly sits in that bracket along with Luke Bailey, Max Wall, Paul Heaney and Danny Cable. All of whom are essential players in our squad as they bring quality but also have the experience to help support our younger players playing in this very competitive league. I hope you all enjoy the game Up the Town ⚫⚫ Gaven Tipple

The Suffolk County Football Association was formed in 1885 and purchased a cup for its members to play for in a knock-out competition. Originally called the Suffolk Football Association Challenge Cup, 15 clubs competed in the first season, with Woodbridge defeating Ipswich Town in the final 3-1, after two drawn games. Entry into the Challenge Cup was optional and in 1888 only 14 teams entered the cup from around 36 clubs that were members. Consequently in the 1889-90 season, the County FA started the Suffolk County Football Association Junior Cup competition which immediately attracted 23 entries. The Challenge Cup was renamed the Suffolk County Senior Cup. This continued until 1907 when a split occurred in the governing body, . The original Suffolk County FA used the original Senior Cup trophy. The new FA-affiliated Suffolk County FA used a new Suffolk Senior Cup trophy presented to the association by the FA. The situation continued with two Suffolk Senior cups for seven seasons. Finally, in 1914 the differences between the two associations were resolved with the AFA affiliating to the FA. Incidentally, the AFA still exists as the Amateur Football Alliance. The First World War then broke out, bringing the process of reconciliation of the two Suffolk County FA's to a temporary halt. It was 1919 before organised football in Suffolk began again, but now there was only one Suffolk County FA and that was affiliated to the Football Association. They held a Senior Cup competition that year in which they presented the only Senior Cup they had, which was that presented to them by the FA. The team that won the trophy that season was Beccles Town. The original trophy was still in the hands of the late committee of the AFA-affiliated Suffolk County FA but was handed over in 1921. The FA-presented Senior Cup became the Minor Cup in 1924 and has been used as the trophy for that competition ever since. The Suffolk Senior Cup competition continued with its original trophy with all Senior status clubs in Suffolk competing until 1957 (except for the World War Two years), although in the 1944-45 season the final was played over two legs with Bury Town beating Newmarket Town 4-2 on aggregate. In 1956 a new competition for Suffolk clubs in the Eastern Counties League or above was introduced and so the Suffolk Premier Cup was born. The Suffolk Senior Cup is now open to Suffolk teams in the Eastern Counties League Division One, the Senior Division of the Suffolk & Ipswich League, the Premier Division of the Cambridgeshire League and the Essex & Suffolk Border League and Premier and First Divisions of the Anglian Combination. The most successful teams in the Senior Cup have been Ipswich Town (16 wins), Lowestoft Town (12 wins), Stowmarket Town (nine wins), Long Melford (eight wins), Grundisburgh (seven wins), and Whitton United (six wins). The biggest win in the final was by Lakenheath , who defeated Ipswich Valley Rangers 7-0 in 2015. The most goals in the final was 17 goals over two matches with a 2-2 draw being followed by a 7-6 win after extra time by Hadleigh United over Long Melford in 2004. The highest-scoring draw was 4-4 in 1961 between Bungay Town and Orwell Works, with Bungay winning the replay 1-0. The 2019-20 final was played earlier the following season due to the coronavirus pandemic, with landlords Ipswich Wanderers defeating tenants Coplestonians, who were playing in their first-ever final, 1-0 after both clubs asked for the match to be played at their Humber Doucy Lane ground.

A Few Lines On Our Visitors…..

Founded in 1978 by Brian Gallagher the club began life as Waveney Youths with one team. The club steadily grew over the next 20 years with several youth teams plus adult teams in local Saturday and Sunday leagues. The structure of the current club has been driven forward by the current club chairman Mark Gamble and club secretary David Beecher as the club has expanded on all fronts since 2000 with the formation of the Saturday Football Club. The club now fields almost 60 teams across Saturdays and Sundays covering men, ladies, boys and girls youth, veterans, walking and disability teams. Supported by an enthusiastic group of volunteers the club now plays matches at five venues - Crown Meadow, Saturn Close Sports Ground, Barnards Meadow, Dip Farm and Barnards Centre Point. The club have won both FA County and Regional Community Club of the Year awards in 2004, 2007 and 2011 and in 2007 went on to win the FA's National award. Having got the youth setup organised and providing players for Lowestoft Town and Kirkley & Pakefield the club decided to seek elevation to the Anglian Combination so that players who did not advance to these then Eastern Counties League teams could progress with Waveney (having dropped the Youths name to reflect its diverse range of teams) into a higher level of football. The team's progress through the divisions of the Anglian Combination has been meteoric with six promotions in eight seasons. Paul Wells was the manager for the first 2 seasons securing successive promotions and since then George Millington has taken the team to unbridled success with the team securing promotion as champions to the Premier Division at the first attempt four seasons ago and also entered for the first time as a senior club and won the Suffolk County Senior Cup in a thrilling final at Portman Road beating Haughley United 3-2. Two seasons ago saw Michael King step up as manager and he led the team to its highest ever position in the Anglian Combination in a completed season. In 2015-2016 the team won the Suffolk FA Senior County Cup beating Haughley United 3-2 at Portman Road. In 2019-2020 the team reached the final of the Mummery Cup and this match will be played sometime in the early part of the season at the FDC against Mundford or Bradenham Wanderers. When lockdown happened due to the COVID-19 pandemic Waveney were top of the league and had just reached the final of the Mummery Cup after beating Yelverton 5- 2 in the semi-final. During the extended close season manager Michael King and his assistant Andrew Hammersley left the club to try their managerial skills at a higher level with Diss Town. The new season will see an influx of young players from the Reserves and A teams seeing if they can manage the leap into senior football. The new manager is Henry Wyndham who has been promoted from the Reserves along with his assistant Adam Beecher and they will be assisted by a third ex-player who rose through the Waveney ranks in Tom Aldis.
