Latest Coast Guard USS Carl Vinson team drug interdiction nets concludes deployment nearly 18 tons of cocaine

A crewmember from Coast Guard cutter Waesche, homeported in Alameda, guards approximately 18 tons of cocaine prior to an offload at 10th Avenue Marine Terminal in San Diego on June, 15. The nar- cotics were seized during 18 separate interdictions in the Eastern Pacific Ocean from March 2017 through June 2017. photo by Fireman Taylor Bacon AN DIEGO – The crew of Coast Guard cutter Waesche Soffloaded approximately 18 tons of cocaine in San Diego June 15. About 36,000 pounds of cocaine, with a street value of $554 million, was seized as part of a three-month operation in the Pacific Ocean. Several U.S. Coast Guard cutters seized the cocaine in 18 interdictions in the Eastern Pacific Ocean from March 2017 through June 2017. “Our nation faces significant threats posed by transnational organized crime networks that spread violence and instability throughout the Western Hemisphere,” said Capt. James Passarelli, commanding officer of Waesche. “The crew of Waesche meets those threats head on as far from the U.S. border as possible.” The drugs, intercepted in international waters off the coast of Central and South America by crews of several Coast Guard cutter. The load represents 15 interdictions of suspected drug smuggling vessels, known as pangas, and three cases of seized bales of co- caine dumped by suspected smugglers. Waesche was responsible for seven cases, seizing approximately 17,619 pounds. Combating transnational organized crime networks, from which the illegal drug trade stems, is of paramount importance to the national security of the U.S., and is a mission in which the Coast Guard and partner agencies are heavily engaged. 2 www.armedforcesdispatch.com THURSDAY, JUNE 22, 2017 Landers Navy photobyMC2Z.A. above carrier demonstration power air an in participate Knights, Black 4 Squadron Combat Sea Helicopter to signed as both Allen, Neal and left, Princi, Peter Class 2nd Aircrewmen Naval - 2017) 18, (June PACIFICOCEAN BOB STALL CHEVROLET HSC 4BlackKnights
