  • How Do Mixed Swedes Identify Themselves?
Sayaka Osanami Törngren How do mixed Swedes identify themselves? MIM Working Paper Series 19: 2 MIM Working Paper Series No 19: 2 Published 2019 Editor Anders Hellström, [email protected] Published by Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare (MIM) Malmö University 205 06 Malmö Sweden Online publication www.bit.mah.se/muep SAYAKA OSANAMI TÖRNGREN How do mixed Swedes identify themselves? ABSTRACT A global trend has shown an increase in intimate partnerships across nationality, race, ethnicity, and religion, and this is also the case in Sweden. As a result, the children of these unions (i.e. multiethnic and multiracial persons) are undeniably part of contemporary society. This study is one of the first studies in Sweden that solely focuses on the multiracial and multiethnic population. Based on 21 qualitative interviews, this article explores how mixed Swedes identify themselves and how they experience that they are identified by others using Brubaker’s (2016) conceptualization. The analysis shows that, contrary to the flexibility in how mixed Swedes identify themselves, mixed Swedes experience that people in society categorize them in a fixed idea of ‘either-or’ – either Swedish or not Swedish. The idea of being Swedish is strongly connected to the idea of being white; therefore, many mixed Swedes with a non-white phenotype experience that their identification as Swedish is not validated. However, some interviewees reject the idea of Swedish as solely being ‘white’ and are actively redrawing what it means to be Swedish through emphasizing nationality and cultural belonging. KEYWORDS mixed identity, Sweden, ethnic options BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES Sayaka Osanami Törngren is a senior researcher at the Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare (MIM).

  • Corporate Social Responsibility at Skandia Sweden with Passion And
Corporate Social Responsibility at Skandia Sweden with passion and commitment? by Karin Greenberg Master thesis: Management and Leadership, spring 2009 Supervisor: Vedran Omanovic Abstract There is always a story waiting to be told. This is the story about the long and committed work with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Skandia Sweden. CSR work at Skandia has touched many hearts within the company as well as outside, in other companies, in the Swedish society and in many individuals. Can such a story be forgotten? What were the arguments of yesterday that convinced stakeholders of the necessity to work with CSR and what are the arguments today? The aim of this research is to further the understanding of the mechanisms involved when an organization decides to direct its focus on CSR issues. CSR efforts are carried out on a long- term basis, often in a turbulent business environment. Through interviews and theoretical analysis I have studied events in Skandia’s history of social commitment since 1987. My own background as a former employee, together with the many dedicated employees of today as well as yesterday, comprises the backbone of this work. Since Skandia’s pioneering work in the area of CSR is unique in Sweden, I have chosen to write in English in order to share my findings with a wider readership. Karin Greenberg, August 2009 Illustration 1: Skandia Diversity Policy (2001) 2 Acknowledgements Writing this thesis has been a challenge. Combining it with my work in politics, I backtracked into the history of my employment. CSR was not just another task, but a personal commitment, above and beyond the commitment of the management.

Aliaksandra Ramanava Maria Franziska Scholl Master’s Thesis in Business Administration Title: Customer Satisfaction within Live Performing Arts: The Case of Programbolaget i Jönköping Author: Aliaksandra Ramanava Maria Franziska Scholl Tutor: Adele Berndt Date: 2012-05-14 Subject terms: Non-profit cultural institution, live performing arts, services marketing mix, service quality, SERVPERF, customer satisfaction, customer expectation Abstract Background Live performing arts are one of the most important heritages, defining the cultural identity of a society. Since live performing arts are cultural services, the process of experiencing them is pivotal in forming satisfaction on the customer side. Achieving customer satisfaction is crucial for non-profit cultural institutions operating under the Swedish cultural model. An investigation of the achieved level of customer satisfaction and a comparison to customer expectations is therefore necessary for offering cultural services, which meet customer expectations.
