It provides an introduction of the historical development and fundamental intellectual and ethical issues associated with the representation of disability in the arts and humanities. We investigate the complex relations between artistic and humanistic expression within this major facet of society and culture. The class also introduces a new methodology and language to build a framework around how disability might fit into the discourse of modern art by way of a radical aesthetics of representation that challenges sociocultural norms. We will consider how disability aesthetics informs photography, performance art, outsider art and curatorial practices. Each week, we will examine readings from different periods of modern art in dialogue with writings about disability aesthetics to re-think art history as we know it. Text: All weekly readings will be provided as PDF documents. Course Objectives: 1. To identify a range of artworks and how they might form dialogue with disability produced during the modern period. 2. Teori: Medielogik, dagordningsteori, framing, genusteori. Metod: Kvalitativ textanalys (ECA-modellen) Material: 113 tidningsartiklar från Aftonbladet och Svenska Dagbladet. Resultat: Resultatet visade på en könstereotypisk porträttering av kvinnliga partiledare i svensk media i samband med deras avgångar. Vår studie stödjer flera genusteoretiska antaganden som legat till grund för undersökningen. De tre partiledare som analyserats, Gudrun Schyman, Mona Sahlin och Anna Kinberg Batra har till stor del porträtterats negativt i samband med sina avgångar. De framställs samtliga med ett flertal negativa ledarskapsegenskaper, så som icke politiskt trovärdiga, otillräckliga och inkompetenta i medierapporteringen. Däremot beskriv partiledarna i retroperspektiv mer positivt där de tillskrivs positiva ledaregenskaper och kvalitéer. Studien har även visat på tendenser till en förändring över tid ur ett genusperspektiv där fokus på kön och utseende får mindre utrymme i media än tidigare. -

92 ON DISABILITY CULTURE, PERFORMING ARTS, SOCIAL THEATRE AND THE PRACTICE OF BEAUTY Andrea Pagnes1 http://orcid.org/0000-0003-3696-2503 Abstract This paper discusses performing arts in general and Social theatre in particular as art practices that most promote disability culture. Few significant examples of differently able performance artists are considered before analyzing the principles of Social theatre and the experience of Isole Comprese Social Theatre School (Florence, IT). From the propositions of American psychologist James Hillman, the school founded its teaching method on the practice of beauty, also defined as a poetic device serving as an antidote to contrast preconceptions, prejudices, stereotypes and stigmatizations that disable people often suffer in society. SOBRE A CULTURA DA DEFICIÊNCIA, ARTES CÊNICAS, TEATRO SOCIAL E A PRÁTICA DA BELEZA Resumo Este artigo discute as artes cênicas em geral e o teatro social em particular como as práticas artísticas que mais promovem a cultura da deficiência. Alguns poucos exemplos significativos de artistas da cena com habilidades diferenciadas são considerados antes de analisarmos os princípios do teatro social e a experiência da Escola de Teatro Social Isole Comprese (Florença, Itália). A partir das proposições do psicólogo estadunidense James Hillman, a escola fundou seu método de ensino pela prática da beleza, também definida como um dispositivo poético servindo de antídoto para contrastar preconceitos, pré-juízos, estereótipos e estigmatizações que pessoas com deficiência sofrem com frequência na sociedade. NEWS: For immediate release FOUR MAJOR NEW DRAMAS COMMENCE FILMING IN BRISTOL IN APRIL including Showtrial, the new title from Line of Duty producers BRISTOL, 23 April 2021: Four major new dramas – Showtrial, The Girl Before and Chloe for the BBC and The Long Call for ITV - have commenced filming in Bristol this month, as the city continues to attract a consistent flow of film and TV productions to use its locations, studio space and filming support services. Laura Aviles, Senior Bristol Film Manager for Bristol City Council responsible for The Bottle Yard Studios & Bristol Film Office, says: “Four major dramas beginning their shoots in Bristol in the space of just a few weeks is a clear indication of the city’s appeal to producers right now. With Showtrial, Chloe, The Girl Before and The Long Call joining other titles already actively filming in the city, Bristol is continuing the exceptionally strong levels of High-End TV production we saw in the first quarter of this year well into the second quarter, bringing welcome benefits to local crew, facilities and service companies, and creating numerous other knock-on benefits to the city’s economy.” SHOWTRIAL From World Productions (Line of Duty, Bodyguard, The Pembrokeshire Murders) comes Showtrial, a brand new drama for BBC One and BBC iPlayer from writer Ben Richards (The Tunnel, Strike, Cobra). Described as “a timely legal drama full of dark humour,” Showtrial is filmed and set around Bristol, and explores how prejudice, politics and the media distort the legal process. The five-part series’ production team is based at The Bottle Yard Studios and filming is taking place on location in Bristol, with assistance from Bristol Film Office.
