Circa Survive By Neelofer Lodhy

On May 29, 2007 finally “let go” of their second debut album . It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Circa Survive, so it is a pretty big deal for the fans considering there is a new album out. With still being signed to and spending this summer on the Vans , Circa Survive has a lot heading their way with their new album finally released.

Circa Survive includes vocalist , who was also the previous lead singer of the band , Colin Frangicetto and Brendan Ekstrom on guitar, Nick Beard on bass, and Steve Clifford on drums. Circa Survive is based in the rock genres of indie and alternative. It was in early 2004 when Anthony felt the need to separate himself from his band Saosin, a band from California which was quickly heating up the rock scene. He said he felt he needed to be in a band in his hometown in , which is where he felt more comfortable. While back at home he met up with his friend Colin Frangicetto who was in his own hardcore Philadelphia based band which had been going strong for seven years straight. They both felt that they needed a change, and thus formed the band Circa Survive.

The origin or base roots of the name Circa Survive come from Latin. Circa Survive means about survival, according to Anthony Green. Circa in Latin means about. Even after being signed to Equal Vision records, the band was still on edge about what they should be named, but they went with their gut instincts and stuck with Circa Survive, a now, well known name.

It was also in the year 2004 that Circa Survive had released an EP called The Inuite Sessions, and later in 2005 releasing their ground breaking album Juturna on April 19th of 2005. Ever since the release of Juturna, Circa Survive have been touring with bands such as , , , Saves the Day, and so much more, that just helped the band become more well known and greatly popularized. Now they are back with their newest and only their second album On Letting Go.

The new album contains 12 melodic songs, one of which they have already released as their single called, The Difference Between Medicine and Poison is in the Dose. I have to be honest and say that this album sounds very much like Juturna. It has the same sounds and riffs, and still the same melodic touch that they have seemed to capture along the years with their soothing music. However, this album does seem a lot more upbeat than their previous album, but the truth is, is that if Circa Survive did end up changing their sound, I don’t think the fans would be very much drawn to them anymore because its not the Circa Survive we know and love, but change isn’t always bad.

If you’re into kick back, calming music. I greatly recommend that you go out and buy the new Circa Survive album, its awesome. Also if you’re interested in seeing and hearing them live, you can go see them on this summers Vans Warped Tour. No rush in getting your tickets, they don’t sell out thankfully, but I guarantee you that if you go to see them, they are a band worth seeing.
