HOW IT WORKS: Choose a Quiz Master and Form Teams of up to 4 People. You Can Also Play with One-Person Teams If That Is Easier for You to Manage, Digitally Speaking STEPHEN & PENELOPE AND CLARA PARKES PRESENT HOW IT WORKS: Choose a Quiz Master and form teams of up to 4 people. You can also play with one-person teams if that is easier for you to manage, digitally speaking. Each team chooses a team name and a team leader. The leader fills in the answer sheet. We like to conduct these quizzes via Zoom conferencing, but any video conferencing application will work. Advanced users can set up one primary Zoom for their Quiz Master to run the quiz, and separate team Zooms for conferring about the answers. A chat group can also work for conferring. Work the quiz in rounds. The Quiz Master asks each question and allows team leaders time to write down their answer. At the end of each round, the quiz master reads out the answers. Each team scores their own round, appointing 5 points to eash correct answer, and that round’s scores are submitted to the Quiz Master. The Quiz Master keeps track of each round’s points on the master score sheet, and keeps the teams apprised of team standings after each round. At the end of round 4, a winner is announced! WHAT IF DISPUTES ARISE? If there is a dispute about an answer it is ultimately up to the Quiz Master to decide if an answer is acceptable or not. WHAT IS MY PRIZE FOR WINNING? If fame, glory and recognition among your friends is not enough, why not arrange your own prizes among your quiz group? It could be a skein of yarn donated by someone in the group, it could be a poem written by the quizmaster especially for the winner, it could be anything! SHARE WITH US! What is knitting, when and where they discovered the first examples of knitted products, socks. The origins of knitting are hard to trace therefore are several theories where was knitting started. The dilema is aslo in this if the earliest socks were worked in nalebinding or in true knitting. We wrote also about knitting guilds, which the craftsmans were united in. We also describe what was happening with knitting when America entered in world war two and about a decline of hosiery crafts after that. Furthermore we wrote about 21st century revival of knitting. Moreover we decribed what was happening with hosiery in Slovenia all of the guilds their crafts and all the way to mechanically knitting. We mentioned also the most specialised producer of hosiery in Slovenia, Polzela d.d., which is the biggest producer of hoisery in Europe. At the end we wrote about history of knitting machines intended for socks and who invented first knitting machine and others. There are many types of knitting machines from simple to very complex and electronic. As a interesting why they invent the machine is that the machine had done much work in twelve hours as it could make ten people at the same time manually.

Powell, Associate Professor College of Textiles North Carolina State University 2401 Research Drive Raleigh, N.C. 27695-8301 (919) 515-6578 ABSTRACT Since the introduction of seamless garment knitting techniques on V-bed machines in 1995, this technology has been considered an innovative process and is currently growing in its commercial application around th e world. By eliminating the cutting and sewing processes, complete garment knitting provides a variety of advantages in knitting production such as savings in cost and time, higher productivity, quick response production and other advantages. The purpose of this research is to review the principles of seamless knitting on V-bed machines and to compare the machines from two major flat-knitting machine suppliers, Shima Seiki and Stoll. This paper will also discuss characteristics and applications of complete garment knitting in various products. This research was accomplished through interviews and a review of the literature. It has implications for academicians and industrial personnel who require information in three dimensional knitting technology and rela ted machinery. Repetition can be a means of improvement, thus benefitting the initial idea. Repetition can, over longer periods of time, also transform into a habit or into a tradition; a repeating element of connection between people and places. It can be used to force concentration and exclude non-essential inputs, as in a mantra. Sometimes repetition is used as a technique to free-up the mind, which might lead to new ideas through total understanding of a process. For this thesis I research the role of repetition and the appreciation of the space in between repetitions. I search for overlapping factors within the field of music practice, textile production and education. For examples with a historical context, and where crafts and repetition are an integral part within a social setting, I focus on the invention of the first knitting machine by William Lee in 1589. Most chapters are intertwined and I hope, by surveying a variety of ex- amples and disciplines, to discover new insights on repetition between the fields that are touched: The knitting machine of William Lee, the statements of Queen Elisabeth I, the citations of Hume, Deleuze, Sennett and Chomsky, the initiatives: The London Cloth Company and the Textile Research Center and my own experiences as a musician and textile student.

The Craft of Hosiers was included in an act of Parliament dated 1663. Queen Elizabeth heard of silk stockings woven by Lee's frame and having received a pair, vowed that she would never again wear cloth hose but would always thereafter wear knitted silk stockings.
