That represents a five percent increase in recruitment over the previous year and shows how hard everyone – and especially our volunteers - has worked to keep HASSRA in the premier league of departmental associations. We can only recruit and retain high levels of membership because we have an offer that people want. That is not always easy. We operate in a crowded market where the ebb and flow of competitive advantage of one product over another isn’t always within our control. But as I review our achievements over the past 12 months one thing is clear: HASSRA continues to have the unique advantage of a network of energetic, funded local clubs which respond directly to local demand, providing a fantastic programme of activities in and outside of the office. Add to that our regional and national programmes and a portfolio of very attractive membership benefits, and we can see why HASSRA continued to forge ahead in 2017 The National Board and I wish to record our thanks to all of you for your hard work and commitment to our Association. Well done! To see the full extent of your achievements, please read on and share the good news with colleagues in the office. Margaret Moor HASSRA National Chair April 2018 4 1. Scope and format of report 1.1 This report covers Association business for the year ending 31st December 2017. It broadly follows the format of the 2017 HASSRA National Work Programme to help readers compare outcomes against objectives. 2. National Programme National Conference and Awards Ceremony 2.1 The 2017 Annual Conference was held on Thursday, 11th May 2017 at Scarman House Conference Centre, Warwick University, and was attended by 72 members and staff. Three motions were submitted for consideration - all about subscriptions - and all were passed unanimously. Details can be found in the Conference minutes. 2.2 The awards dinner was attended by 131 guests including Robert Devereux (Permanent Secretary DWP), Neil Couling (DG Universal Credit Programme DWP), Tom McCormack (CMG Director DWP), and Jane Lassey (Head of HSE Operations). Trophies were awarded to our highest achievers in 2016 in the following categories: HASSRA Major Awards Winners for 2016 The President’s Trophy Fylde for Best Association The First Vice-President’s Trophy RCD HASSRA for Best Large Club South West Highly Commended Newcastle Pensions Centre (North East) Highly Commended HASSRA Coatbridge (Scotland) Sir Michael Partridge Trophy HASSRA Stornoway for Best Small Club Scotland Terry Green Trophy Alan Turner for Best Sportsperson North West Rachel Lomax Trophy Rachel Bond For Best Volunteer North West Sir Leigh Lewis Trophy Joanne Graham for Best Contributor Fylde Lesley Strathie Trophy Mark Tapley for Best Business Sponsor South West Highly Commended Path Bhatt (East Midlands) Sir Robert Devereux Trophy HASSRA Stockton Service Centre Wellbeing Award North East 5 National, Regional & CSSC Events 2.3 HASSRA delivered a full and varied programme of national and regional events and competitions during 2017 with more than 3,643 people taking part in sporting events. All but one of the national championships were held at the Summer Festivals, with just indoor cricket held elsewhere. HASSRA was strongly represented at CSSC events, with 292 members taking part. HASSRA Festivals 2.4 The HASSRA Festivals took place on Saturday 8th July and Saturday 9th September and were attended by 1,012 competitors and volunteers. Twenty-four national and three inter-association championships were staged across the two events, with competitors and volunteers giving a combined satisfaction score of 4.4/5. This equals the previous highest score in 2016. Details of National events and results are at Appendix 6. Review National Championships 2.5 The EC agreed the festivals programme for both 2018 and 2019 to help regions plan their programmes of qualifiers. It also designated eight events as “open competitions” to maximise participation and ensure viability of those events. These included 10K race, craft workshop, squash, art, dance music and photography. As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusivity of provision, two new events were added as open events: gym- based triathlon and footgolf. We will also run card making in the craft workshop in 2018 and return to knitting in 2019. Articulate will replace Pictionary in 2018. The choir section of the music competition was suspended for insufficient numbers. Membership Benefits 2.6 Discounts and benefits are important to our members. In 2017 they purchased 150,000 cinema and theme park tickets from our on-line shop, saving £780k on normal admission prices. Members also purchased 4,000 tickets from our partners Merlin Entertainment Group, The Eden Project and Longleat, saving a further £68K. We have added a new holiday discount for our members in Eurocamp and re-established partnerships with Fred Olsen Cruises and Cottages4U, resulting in increased bookings and savings worth £65k 2.7 Members also enjoyed savings worth £25k from the Hotpoint Privilege Purchase Club, which offers massive discounts on Indesit, Hotpoint and Whirlpool products. 2.8 Our corporate membership of English Heritage continued to be popular. English Heritage estimates HASSRA members made over 47,000 visits under the scheme during the year. The most popular sites were Osborne House, Whitby Abbey, Belsay Hall, Cliffords Tower and Wrest Park. English Heritage Special Event Days continue to be popular with our members. This deal will change from April 2018 when HASSRA members will pay a very heavily discounted and highly competitive fee in return for full rather than the limited corporate membership of English Heritage. 6 2.9 In March 2017 we added corporate membership of Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) to our portfolio. As with all our corporate memberships this benefit has proved popular with our members with almost 11,000 visiting in the first 10 months saving members £161k. HRP has extended our corporate membership until June 2018 when the arrangement will be reviewed. 2.10 Wildfowl and Wetland Trust (WWT) corporate membership was also popular with members with over 4,000 visits taking place from January to May 2017 saving members £31k. During our year of corporate membership almost 10,000 members took advantage of the deal saving £74K. A new offer was launched in September and in the four months to December over 1,700 tickets have been sold at £2 per ticket. This compares to over 1,900 visits for the same period in 2016. Summer Promotion and Winter Promotions 2.11 We ran two large promotions during the year. Our Summer Promotion once again offered members half price tickets for theme parks and zoos throughout the country. Members purchased 14,548 tickets saving £198k on normal admission prices. In our Winter Promotion members with an online shop account were included in the draw. Eighty winners shared prizes worth £20k, including cash and electronic gadgets. Shop registrations increased as a result of this draw. Free Competitions 2.12 In 2017 we ran nine free competitions open to on-line shop account holders, of whom 93 winners shared £25k in prizes. The popularity of the competitions resulted in an increase in shop registrations. Details of membership benefits are shown at Appendix 7. 3. Recruiting and Retaining Members Campaigns 3.1 Recruitment and retention remained vitally important as departmental headcounts continued to reduce.

In Bassetlaw, however, the first sign that spring is just around the corner is heralded by the annual Hodscock Snowdrop Festival. This event attracts visitors from far and wide to see the millions of snowdrops in fragrant winter borders. The height of summer is the time when musical, artistic and cultural activities are staged throughout the district and the rural villages of Bassetlaw abound with summer festivities. Many residents open their gardens to the public and stage spectacular village events. A leisurely walk along the Chesterfield Canal is probably one of the best ways to enjoy a long summer evening, stopping to sample the delights of one the many picturesque pubs along the way. As evenings draw in and the leaves turn to gold, the stunning autumnal displays seen in Clumber Park can easily rival those of America’s New England states.

    Draft Bassetlaw Local Plan NOVEMBER 2020 DRAFT Foreword This new draft Bassetlaw Local Plan provides an ambitious, innovative and positive planning framework to shape the future of the District to 2037 and identifies where, when and how new development will be delivered. Bassetlaw is undergoing huge change, over this Local Plan’s timeframe it is our ambition that it will become a modern and prosperous District. Ensuring that Bassetlaw has robust, effective and up-to date planning policies that secure our long-term economic future which continue to adapt and embrace changing circumstances, such as climate change, a growing population, and that deliver the Government’s required housing and growth targets will be key to our long term achievements. Providing for the Government’s commitment to housing growth is extremely challenging. This Plan makes good use of brownfield land; this has been showcased in the way we are promoting town centre regenerations, improvements to neighbourhoods and re-use of former power station sites. But to meet the Government’s targets other land is required. By planning for growth through this Plan we can make sure that housing and businesses are accompanied by the right infrastructure to help our communities sustainably grow. Growth will have an emphasis on healthy lifestyles and active travel; this draft Plan provides for more walking and cycling routes, new parks and open spaces, sports facilities and improvements to health facilities to the benefit of existing and new communities. Ensuring our communities are better able to make the transition to a low carbon lifestyle is a vital part of this Plan.

    Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP 10 Downing Street London SW1A 2AA 17 March 2020 Dear Prime Minister, The advice to avoid hospitality venues, coupled with the speed of coronavirus developments compels us to write less than a week since the Budget commitments to assist businesses through the hardest time in living memory. Hospitality trade and footfall plummeted by up to 70% prior to your comments yesterday and will undoubtedly have worsened since, genuinely posing an existential threat to our businesses and the jobs. Hospitality represents 10% of UK employment and 5% of GDP and the shockwaves of a sector-wide failure would be socially, culturally and economically devastating. The Budget brought succour to some SMEs in our sector but left 7 out of 10 hotels, pubs, restaurants and attractions unsupported. Without further urgent intervention we face unprecedented levels of business closure – staff are already being laid off and the situation will only become more severe. We need Government action now, to: extend the business rates and NIC holiday to all hospitality businesses for at least six months; follow the lead of other countries such as the USA, France and Denmark by committing to additional working capital support while funding salaries and retaining staff and; call on landlords and banks to avoid forfeiture of rent payments. Hospitality is in a potentially fatal cashflow catastrophe, but all is not lost. With the right support from Government, our valuable sector will be able to focus on its teams and may yet forge ahead for the benefit of the British economy and people. The biggest threat to its ability to do so is that support comes either too late or not at adequate levels to see us through: we implore you to act on the above, without delay.
