Kinzang Dukpa ii Abstract Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly infectious viral disease of all cloven-hoofed animals. It can have a significant impact on the livelihood of livestock owners, especially in developing nations such as Bhutan. Prior to the study reported in this thesis, there was limited understanding of the epidemiology of FMD in Bhutan in terms of its spatiotemporal distribution, risk factors, role of animal movement, and disease surveillance. Retrospective and prospective studies were conducted to unravel the epidemiology of FMD in Bhutan in order to support and refine the current control programme. The study demonstrated that FMD is endemic and periodically epidemic in Bhutan with the districts and sub-districts bordering India being at higher risk of disease than the interior districts. The districts and sub-districts bordering India appear to behave like primary endemic areas for the introduction and persistence of FMD virus through frequent unofficial movements of cattle across the porous border. The interior districts and sub- districts appear to behave like secondary endemic areas where virus propagation occurs due to limited vaccination coverage and unrestricted movement of animals. -

The Royal Audit Authority (RAA) conducted the audit under the mandate bestowed by the Constitution of Kingdom of Bhutan and the Audit Act of Bhutan 2018. The audit was conducted as per the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions on performance auditing (ISSAI3000). The keys treat 31 genera and 195 species. Relevant synony- mies are presented for genera and species, as well as general and local dis- tributions of species. Fourty-five species are described as new and a number of species are newly recorded from the area or from individual countries. Eighty-seven species and 7 genera are relegated to synonymy. This paper is the third in a series” attempting to cover the chrysomelid beetles from the Thai-Indochina area. This series represents a sequel to “Chrysomelidae (Coleopt.) of China and Korea” (Gressitt & Kimoto, 1961 & 1963), and should be used in conjunction with that monograph. This installment treats the subfamily Eumolpinae covering 41 genera, 207 species, including 45 new species and 87 new synonymies. Seven genera are synonymized and there are many new combinations. Keys are presented to genera and species, including a few occurring just outside the area of treatment. -

Pfeiffer 17.1 Introduction 17.1.1 Scope The Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica Newman, and several other coleopteran foliavores, i.e. green June beetle, Cotinus nitida (L.), rose chafer, Macrodactylus subspinosus (F.), grape rootworm, Fidia viticida Walsh, and grape fl ea beetle, Altica chalybea Illiger cause conspicuous foliar injury. A number of these coleopterans also cause injury to other vine parts, i.e., primary buds, berries, or roots. Although such injury may be much more economically important than the leaf injury, we will not address them here because the leaf injury arouses the greatest amount of con- cern. Japanese beetle is the main species to be discussed. In an earlier study (Pfeiffer et al. 1990 ) , it was found to be the target of most insecticide sprays in Virginia vineyards, owing to its conspicuous leaf injury. Although its populations fl uctuate considerably from year to year, Japanese beetle remains an important pest to be addressed by grape pest management programs in eastern North America. The thrust of this chapter is on beetles that, in at least one life stage, infl ict defoliation injury on grapevines. There is one additional coleopteran that may cause economic losses, the multicolored Asian lady beetle, Harmonia axyridis (Pallas). Injury that may be infl icted to fruit by this otherwise benefi cial predator is discussed by Pfeiffer et al. (Chap. 19 ). D. G. Pacific Insects 3 (1) : 117-202 April 20, 1961 SYSTEMATIC CATALOG OF JAPANESE CHRYSOMELIDAE12 (Coleoptera) By Michio Chujo3 and Shinsaku Kimoto4 INTRODUCTION The Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles) is one of the largest groups of Coleoptera. About 30,000 species of this family have been described from the world. All of them are phy tophagous and some of them are serious injurious insects. Taxonomic studies of this group are important in connection with agricultural and forest entomology. In spite of the need, a complete catalog of Japanese Chrysomelidae has not yet been published. Since 1956, we have worked on a systematic catalog of Japanese Chrysomelidae. Kimoto spent from September to November 1959 working on type specimens of Far Eastern Chrysomelidae in continental United States and Europe as Bishop Museum Fellow in Ento mology, after his one and a half years stay in Hawaii, working on Chinese Chrysomelidae. A revisional paper on type specimens in United States and European Museums, is planned by Kimoto. The scope of this paper is Japan, the Ryukyu Is., and small neighboring islands. In regard to applied entomology, food plants are also listed. Many of the new combinations or status or synonymies are based on Kimoto's studies of type specimens. After Hornstedt, 1788, studies on Japanese Chrysomelidae have been made by various workers. In the latter half of the 19th century, studies on Japanese fauna were made by Motschulsky, Harold, Kraatz, Baly, Jacoby, Boheman, Weise and other workers, especially Baly and Jacoby. Those works were chiefly descriptions of new genera and species. Most of the Japanese species were described during this period. -

ABSTRACT The study was carried out at Tsirang District at Southern Bhutan during April 2015 to December 2015 for 7 months. The aim of the study was to collect the baseline data on the butterfly diversity from the district to evaluate the species diversity and of conservation importance. Twelve study sites were identified and recorded the butterfly communities in the area. During the study, 241 species belongs to 131 genera under 5 families were recorded. The family Nymphalidae was the most common (44 %, n=106), followed by Lycaenidae (20.3%, n= 49), Hesperiidae (14.9%, n=36), Pieridae (12.9%, n= 31) and lowest Papilionidae (7.9 %, n=19) in the study area. Among which thirty-two species recorded are protected in India under various schedules of Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972, but none of these species are protected under Forest and Nature Conservation Act (1995) or Forest and Nature Conservation Rules of Bhutan (2006). -
