C. (2019). The elemental composition of Green Seaweed (Ulva rigida) collected from Çanakkale, Turkey. Aquatic Sciences and Engineering, 34(3), 74-79. ABSTRACT Seaweeds or marine algae are rich in terms of minerals. They are used as food source due to the quality of their biological content in many countries. In this study, the elemental composition of green seaweed (Ulva rigida) was determined seasonally. Sampling was carried out seasonally from Turkey’s Çanakkale strait and the collected algae were analyzed both wet and dried according to the Nordic Committee on Food Analysis (method 186). According to the results; calcium, potassi- um, magnesium, sodium were found as macro elements and boron, barium, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, zinc as micro elements and determined within the legal limits stated by food codex. However, neither cobalt nor nickel as trace metals were detected in all groups. Moreover, ORCID IDs of the authors: lead and cadmium (which are considered hazardous) were also not detected. While Mg was found E.C.Ç.: 0000-0001-5898-4469; to be the highest macro element in all seasons in wet algae, the highest macro mineral varied in N.B.: 0000-0003-3015-8688 dried algae is Ca in spring, K in summer and Mg in both autumn and winter. In the field studies, fifteen O. angorae individuals were sampled using electrofishing gear. After the captured samples were photographed, they were placed in fish transfer containers and transferred to the laboratory. Some metric numbers and meristic characteristics of the samples brought to the laboratory were recorded. The mean value of body weight of fish samples was determined as 2.39±0.576 g. The mean values of standard length, fork length and total length of the samples were determined as 5.48±0.49 cm, 6.23±0.54 cm and 6.56±0.59 cm, respectively. The result of this study, new fish species was added to freshwater fish fauna of Ordu and also provided a new data for the distribution areas O. angorae in Turkey. Corresponding author: *E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Turkey shows a notable diversity of habitats, with significant variations in altitude, rainfall, temperature, topography and geological history, which is reflected in its richness of biodiversity. Although there are quite a number of publications on the freshwater fish taxonomy, the data set for endemic freshwater fish as assemblages are poor. According to recent findings, a total of 194 endemic freshwater fish species are now recognised within the political boundaries of Turkey. Endemic fish consist of 47.4% of the Turkish freshwater ichthyofauna (409 species). At the family level, the Cyprinidae comprises the greatest number of endemic species (110 species; 56.7% of the endemic species), followed by the Nemacheilidae (31 species; 16.0%), Cyprinodontidae (18 species; 9.3%), Cobitidae (14 species; 7.2%), Salmonidae (12 species; 6.2%), Gobiidae (7 species; 3.6%), Petromyzontidae (1 species; 0.5%) and Clupeidae (1 species; 0.5%). A total of 143 species (73.71%) are found within a single basin. Considering species diversity, the Konya endorheic basin (64.10%) is the richest in endemics, followed by Burdur (52.38%), Büyük Menderes (40.28%), Van Gölü (38.46%) and Antalya (34.00%).

In marine habitats, 434 species (plus 46 immigrated or introduced) are found, with the Gobiidae and Sparidae being the largest families. While there is no marine endemic faunal element in Turkey, and only three species endemic to transitional waters, the freshwater fish fauna com- prises a total of 78 endemic species (31.5 % of the total native species). 23 endemic fish species are found in the central lakes (including seven in Beyșehir Gölü, six in Eg˘irdir Gölü), 12 each in Anatolian Aegean Sea watersheds (most in Büyük Menderes River) and in Anatolian Black sea watersheds, 11 in the upper reaches of the Persian/Arabian Gulf watersheds, nine in the Anatolian Mediterranean Sea watersheds, eight in western Anatolian lake watersheds, and seven in the Asi Nehri/Orontes. Apterichtus caecus (Linnaeus, 1758), Chromogobius zebratus (Kolombatovic´, 1891), Gobius fallax Sarato, 1889, Nemacheilus insignis (Heckel, 1843), Opeatogenys gracilis (Canestrini, 1864) and Pomatoschistus quagga (Heckel, 1837) are recorded from Turkish waters for the first time.

Investigations of the ichthyofauna of Georgia began in the XVIII-XIX centuries [10, 19,29- 31,33,41,43,44,60,64], but no faunistic lists of the fish species of the country have been published until now. The present ichthyofauna of Georgia comprises 167 species, belonging to 3 subgenera, 109 genera, 5 tribes, 9 subfamilies, 57 families, 13 suborders, 25 orders, 5 superorders, 2 subclasses, 3 classes and 2 superclasses. Among them 61 are freshwater inhabitants, 76 live in marine water and 30 species are migratory. Metaphase chromosomes were obtained from head kidney cells. The diploid chromosome number was found as 50 and karyotype was consisted 13 pairs of biarmed and 12 pairs of uniarmed chromosomes. Fundamental arm number was calculated as 76. The obtained results shall contribute to nemacheilid chromosomal studies. Keywords: Fish cytotaxonomy, Chromosome, Gediz River, Turkey. Iranian Journal of Ichthyology 8(1): 14-18. Introduction simavicus is an endemic loach of Turkish inland Besides molecular studies of fishes, karyological water described from the Marmara Sea tributary studies are important in fish taxonomy. Fish (Freyhof et al. 2011; Güçlü & Küçük 2015; Çiçek et karyology has been developed since 1960 (Chiarelli al. 2018, 2019). There is no karyological study of & Capanna 1973).
