ABSTRACT In Chiba Prefecture, Japan, during the Edo period (1603-1867), the development of waterway traffic by ships and the management of ports, highways and post towns around the ports progressed with the prosperity of the Edo (present-day Tokyo), which became heavily populated and the center of politics. We estimated that the demand of Japanese sake, which is luxury grocery item, was high. The freshwater layer that is abundant in mineral water to a depth of approxi- mately 10 m is formed in coastal sand dunes. The fresh water layer is hard water, in which the concentrations of miner- als such as calcium and magnesium are high. When the fresh water layer is used as the preparation water, the working rice malt and yeast in the sake brewing process become active. -

The 90 km coast line, represents the northernmost nesting site for the species in Japan, with three major nest- ing locations: Hiari-Izumiura beach, Isumi; Nakazato-Kouji beach, Shirako; and Kidohama beach, Yokoshibahikari. Seventeen nesting events were recorded, of which the presence of 12 nests was con- firmed. Twenty-four stranded individuals, 14 of which were subadults and juveniles, were recorded. The low nesting activity compared with other areas in Japan might be attributed to the relatively short period ap- propriate for nesting and hatching given the temperate latitude. The unusually high stranding rate of subadult and juvenile turtles may suggest that the region is a feeding ground for immature loggerhead sea turtles. When I discussed confronting challenges and embracing opportunities in last year’s letter, I covered three enormously consequential developments for FedEx, which all merit reiterating: > Trade disputes that began in calendar year 2018 and accelerated in calendar year 2019; > Strategic decision-making to position FedEx as the dominant e-commerce player; and > Strategically timed aircraft and hub modernization programs. Challenge & change — trade disputes: Trade is an essential element of prosperity. Arguably one of the biggest changes that has increased prosperity since the end of World War II has been the opening of global markets and the growth of trade. FedEx serves more than 220 countries and territories, making us an enormous enabler and beneficiary of free trade, and as we finished fiscal year 2018, FedEx experienced one of the strongest quarters in the company’s history. As illustrated in the below chart, in calendar year 2018 the trade disputes dealt a devastating blow to the global industrial economy, which is very much dependent on global trade. Our company’s commercial business suffered across the board as the trade disputes escalated. We were most adversely affected in Europe, where we were in the midst of the integration of TNT. FedEx was among the first to recognize this slowdown in global trade, and we responded to this challenge by actively managing costs while continuing to make the necessary investments for long-term success.
