  • Heroes of the Reich
HEROES OF THE REICH ADOLF HITLER The Only Democratically Elected Leader of World War Two PUBLISHING REAL HISTORY Mike Walsh BIOGRAPHY MIKE WALSH Mike Walsh is a veteran journalist, broadcaster and historian. A fugitive from renegade Europeans, leftists, palace journalists, he has shrugged off their wrath over 50 years of writing. His Irish-American father, Patrick had fought in four conflicts by the time he reached 40-years of age: The Irish peoples guerrilla war against the British Army‟s Black and Tans. These armed irregulars, dredged from England‟s prisons, were notorious for their viciousness. The Irish War of Independence and on to fight in the most ferocious hand-to-hand battles during the Spanish Civil War. Whilst on the frontlines he was a close associate of American war correspondent, Ernest Hemingway. Mike‟s father formed an enduring friendship with Ireland‟s celebrated playwright, Sean O‟Casey. Eventually his father served in the Royal Air Force during World War Two as an aircraft fitter / flier. Kathleen, Mike‟s well- educated mother also mentored his writing skills. A former novice nun she was a corresponding friend of Spain's Civil War revolutionary La Pasionaria. From the age of 26 the world-travelling Mike was consumed by a passion for truth and justice. Inevitably, this led him to the potpourri of lies, infamies, cover-ups and crimes committed by the Allies that militarily defeated the Workers Reich. By doing so they ensured the spread of Bolshevism, denial of freedom to nearly a score of Central European nations, the dismembering of the British Empire, and surrender to American imperialism.

  • Scuttlebutt from the Spermaceti Press 2014
Jan 14 #1 Scuttlebutt from the Spermaceti Press Sherlockians (and Holmesians) gathered in New York to celebrate the Great Detective's 160th birthday during the long weekend from Jan. 15 to Jan. 19. The festivities began with the traditional ASH Wednesday dinner sponsored by The Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes at O'Casey's and continued with the Christopher Morley Walk led by Jim Cox and Dore Nash on Thursday morning, followed by the usual lunch at McSorley's. The Baker Street Irregulars' Distinguished Speaker at the Midtown Executive Club on Thursday evening was James O'Brien, author of THE SCIENTIFIC SHER- LOCK HOLMES: CRACKING THE CASE WITH SCIENCE & FORENSICS (2013); the title of his talk was "Reassessing Holmes the Scientist", and you will be able to read his paper in the next issue of The Baker Street Journal. The William Gillette Luncheon at Moran's was well attended, as always, and the Friends of Bogie's at Baker Street (Paul Singleton, Sarah Montague, and Andrew Joffe) entertained their audience with a tribute to an aged Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The luncheon also was the occasion for Al Gregory's presentation of the annual Jan Whimsey Award (named in memory of his wife Jan Stauber) honoring the most whimsical piece in The Serpentine Muse last year; the winners (Susan Rice and Mickey Fromkin) received certificates and shared a check for the Canonical sum of $221.17. And Otto Penzler's tradi- tional open house at the Mysterious Bookshop provided the usual opportuni- ties to browse and buy. The Irregulars and their guests gathered for the BSI annual dinner at the Yale Club, where John Linsenmeyer proposed the preprandial first toast to Marilyn Nathan as The Woman.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch
Notable Mayflower Descendants: Benedict Cumberbatch Richard Hall z Benedict Cumberbatch is an award-winning British actor probably best known as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC and PBS television series Sherlock. Memorable film roles include Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013), The Imitation Game (2014), and Doctor Strange (2016). In recent years, various surprising familial connections have been reported regarding Benedict Cumberbatch. These include a distant kinship to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of the Sherlock Holmes character,1 and Alan Turing, the computer scientist and mathematician Cumberbatch portrayed in The Imitation Game.2 Not long ago, while tracing Benedict Cumberbatch’s ancestry, I made my own surprising discovery. In early 2017, I discovered an application for membership to the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for Robert Cecil Cumberbatch,3 brother of Henry Carlton Cumberbatch (Benedict’s grandfather). The two brothers were great-grandsons of John Langdon of Boston, a “Cornhill” bookseller and patriot in the American Revolution.4 After the war, Langdon was appointed by Washington to a position in the Boston Custom House.5 Even more surprising than American ancestry for Cumberbatch, was the discovery that Langdon’s wife, Mary Walley, was a descendant of Mayflower passenger John Alden, thus giving the British actor a genealogical connection to Plymouth and the Pilgrims. The Alden descent of Benedict Cumberbatch is documented below. 1 “The Surprising Link Between Benedict Cumberbatch and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,” article online at Ancestry.com, http://blogs.ancestry.com/cm/surprising-link-benedict- cumberbatch-sir-arthur-conan-doyle, accessed 16 September 2017. 2 “Decoding History: Ancestry of Benedict Cumberbatch Revealed,” article online at Ancestry.com, http://blogs.ancestry.com/cm/decoding-history-ancestry-of-benedict-cumberbatch- revealed, accessed 16 September 2017.
