In 2011, however, Thailand suffered a severe flood, and that means the country’s water management was not successful. Maetaeng watershed is another area that has been receiving a lot of funding to develop and solve the problem of water resources in the area continuously. Still, it was also found that the projects and budgets spent still cannot fix the problems of water resources in the area. This study aims to analyze the events, problems, and factors that can lead to the process development of integrated water resources management in Mae Taeng watershed area, Chiang Mai province. This qualitative study workshop was conducted by collecting basic information, setting a discussion panel for water users, and a workshop to brainstorm for the ideas of water management. The findings showed important factors positively affect the strength of the community, cooperation in water management of the community, and the sacrifices of strong community leaders. The negative impacts include the deforestation of certain ethnic groups, cultural diversity, a lack of awareness in the role of community leaders, as well as insufficient funding. -
Wat Phra That Hariphunchai ( ) Sited in Mid-Town, It Was Built During the Reign of King Arthitayarat, a Descendant of Queen Chamthewi Some 800 Years Ago
Amphoe Mueang Lamphun 01 - Wat Phra That Hariphunchai ( ) Sited in mid-town, it was built during the reign of King Arthitayarat, a descendant of Queen Chamthewi some 800 years ago. A principal landmark is the 46-metre tall golden Chedi whose present appearance was the result of the restoration work in 1443 by a king of Chiang Mai. It has long been regarded as a major place of worship. Other architectural works include the ancient-style brick arch adorned with fine designs and the pair of sculptured lions at the door. There are also a square-shaped Chedi and a Khmer-style Buddha statue. 02 - Hariphunchai National Museum ( ). Located on Inthayongyot Road almost opposite Wat Phra That Hariphunchai it displays and exhibits include historical development and archaeological items found in Lamphun. These include prehistorical human skeletons and objects of arts from the Dvaravati, Hariphunchai, Lanna and Rattanakosin periods. A chamber is devoted to a collection of inscription stones in Mon and Lanna scripts. Another displays ancient utensils, Lanna indigenous arts and carvings. The museum is open Wednesday-Sunday from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. 03 - Phra Nang Chamthewi Statue ( ) Located in the Nong Dok public park in town commemorating the first ruler of Hariphunchai. 04 - Suthewa Rusi Statue ( ) In front of the Town Hall, the Legend has it that the Rusi, or ascetic, was the actual founder of Hariphunchai. As an ascetic refraining from worldly affairs he invited Phra Nang Chamthevi, a daughter of the King of Lopburi, to ascend the throne and helped her to firmly establish Buddhism in the land. -

Used a qualitative methodology that included studying-documents, interviews, and focus group discussions on studying a sample of experts and Thai-Chinese families. The data were analyzed by content analysis. The result was summarized as follows: 1) Cause their migration from China to Muang District, Lampang Province was poverty and escaped the war. 2) Their migration routes were two routes. The first route from Hainan Island, Koh Samui in Surat Thani Province, Other Provinces (such as Bangkok, Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat, Nakhon Ratchasima), Lampang Province. The Second route from Guangdong and Fujian, Vietnam, Khlong Toei (Bangkok), Lampang Province. 3) Their ethnicity divided into three ethnics were Hainan, Cantonese-Chaozhou, and Hakka. 4) Traditional and cultural expression, namely, constructing shrines, worshiping ancestors, a ritual in respecting and worshiping the Chinese and Buddha deities, changing the cremation ceremony from burial to cremation, usage Thai as the mother tongue, and embellishing Chinese lanterns and characters -

Donkaew, Maerim District, Chiangmai 50180, Thailand Abstract Dengue haemorrhagic fever is an epidemic infectious diseases caused by dengue virus. It is a major disease prevalent in all provinces of Thailand. This study was to determine the circulating dengue serotypes by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). A total of 1116 seropositive acute samples were analysed from DF/DHF patients in five provinces of northern Thailand (Chiangmai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son and Phrae) during the period January 2002 to December 2006. Five hundred and fifty-nine samples were found positive, of which 47.2%, 30.6%, 18.4% and 3.8% were affected with DENV-2, DENV-1, DENV-4 and DENV-3 respectively. From 2002 to 2005, the predominant dengue serotype was DENV-2, whereas DENV-1 was predominant in 2006. There was an apparent increase in the percentage of DENV-4 from 2005 to 2006. Our results indicated that all four dengue serotypes were circulating in this region and the annual change of predominant serotypes was the cause of the severity of the disease. 1 Final Report Identify Critical Fish Habitats in the Mekong River, Chiang Rai Province, Thailand Prepared by Mr. Boonsong Sricharoendham Ms. Suthida Soebeen Ms. Parichat Musikatham Ms. Siriwan Suksri Department of Fisheries, Thailand, December 2015 2 Executive summary The study on identify critical fish habitats in the Mekong River, Chiang Rai Province, Thailand (activity 2.2.1) is an activity under the project of Transboundary Fisheries Management in the Bordering Provinces of Bokeo, Lao PDR, and Chiang Rai, Thailand. The objectives are; 1) to identify critical habitats for spawning, nursing and refuge during dry season, 2) to discuss the relevance of these habitats for recruitment capacity of fish stocks and 3) to explore ideas for conservation of these habitats and implications for local and transboundary fisheries management. All data collection and field surveys were conducted at the four target villages and their monitoring sites nearby during June 2014 to October 2015. The 4 target villages composted of; 1) Ban Don Tee, Ban Muang Kan, 3) Ban Pak Ing Tai and 4) Ban Huai Luek where covered the distance of Mekong mainstream about 80-90 km long. PRA study and LEK expert interview were applied in the village with local communities and fisher expert. Also dominant fish gonad development and fish larvae sampling were also investigated in those area. The result found that the Mekong mainstream in Chiang Rai province located at the middle part of the total Mekong river length where about 400 m above mean sea level and 2,200 to 2,300 km far from the river headwater. -

Popularly known as “The Rose of the North” and with an en- chanting location on the banks of the Ping River, the city and its surroundings are blessed with stunning natural beauty and a uniquely indigenous cultural identity. Snails were collected and examined in 14 sites of Mae Lao agricultural basin from August 2016 to October 2017. A total of 1,688 snail individuals were collected and classified into 7 families, 8 genera, and 12 species. Snail diversity and habitat types were higher in rice paddies than irri- gation canals and streams. The most abundant species was Bithynia siamensis siamensis, representing 54.6% of the sample. Three species of snails act as first intermediate host were found with cercarial infections. They were Filopaludina sumatrensis polygramma, B. s. siamensis, and Melanoides tuberculata. The cercariae were categorized into 7 types; echi- nostome, monostome, gymnocephalous, virgulate, parapleurolophocercous, pleurolophocercous and megalurous cer- cariae. Parapleurolophocercous cercariae constituted the most common type of cercariae recovered, contributing 41.2% of all infections in snails. Echinostome metacercariae infections were found in 6 snail species with 7.6% prevalence. In addition, the metacercaria of avian trematode, Thapariella sp. were found in Filopaludina spp. -

The objective was to identify guidelines for the development of Ubonchat Sattathip cultural silver jewelry. This was to increase value of silver jewelry products responsive to the users’ preferences for cultural silver jewelry. The research used both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The results of the study were the identified guideline to development of Ubonchat Sattathip Design in the shape of a beautiful lotus in 9 colors and these colors represent nine different gemstones, and positive responses to the new design from the silver jewelry users under study. The combination between a silver jewelry pattern and gem colors created added value to the cultural silver jewelry. The opinion of users on the cultural silver jewelry Ubonchat Sattathip was at the high level (Mean=4.43, S.D = 0.38). Each individual molluscan bed has its own unique assemblage and occurs in a stratigraphic succession which allows for close stratigraphic correlations to be made within the Middle Miocene Mae Moh Group. Each molluscan species occurs in a particular facies showing close relationship between each taxon and its habitat. ?Paludina occurs in claystone and ligneous claystone indicating that its habitat was a lake with no vegetation or only sparse vegetation growing around it. Specimens of the Family Planorbidae must have preferred living in swamp containing dense vegetation since they occur in coal beds and ligneous claystone. Melanoides sp. cf. M. tuberculata occurs in claystone, suggesting that their habitats were in lake with little or no vegetation growing in it, similar to the living Melanoides tuberculata, which is a burrower into the lake sediments. The specimens of the Genus Bellamya have probably lived in the same conditions as Melanoides sp. cf. M. tuberculata did but not burrow. The twelve metre-thick Bellamya Bed was formed by a dynamic sedimentary process rather than by snail dying and being deposited in situ. The snails were regarded as being somehow transported for a short distance. -

Thai-Burmese warfare during the sixteenth century 69 THAI-BURMESE WARFARE DURING THE SIXTEENTH CENTURY AND THE GROWTH OF THE FIRST TOUNGOO EMPIRE1 Pamaree Surakiat Abstract A new historical interpretation of the pre-modern relations between Thailand and Burma is proposed here by analyzing these relations within the wider historical context of the formation of mainland Southeast Asian states. The focus is on how Thai- Burmese warfare during the sixteenth century was connected to the growth and development of the first Toungoo empire. An attempt is made to answer the questions: how and why sixteenth century Thai-Burmese warfare is distinguished from previous warfare, and which fundamental factors and conditions made possible the invasion of Ayutthaya by the first Toungoo empire. Introduction As neighbouring countries, Thailand and Burma not only share a long border but also have a profoundly interrelated history. During the first Toungoo empire in the mid-sixteenth century and during the early Konbaung empire from the mid-eighteenth to early nineteenth centuries, the two major kingdoms of mainland Southeast Asia waged wars against each other numerous times. This warfare was very important to the growth and development of both kingdoms and to other mainland Southeast Asian polities as well. 1 This article is a revision of the presentations in the 18th IAHA Conference, Academia Sinica (December 2004, Taipei) and The Golden Jubilee International Conference (January 2005, Yangon).
