Alperton, , Hanger Lane Circular walk 4.5 miles – Grand Union Canal – (Selborne Society) – St. Mary’s Church – River Brent – Park – Brentham Meadow – Hanger Lane – River Brent – Alperton. Route: Leisurely - mainly quiet roads apart from Hanger Lane; canal towpath; parks and open spaces. Local Amenities: Alperton/Hanger Lane – shops, cafes, etc. Pitshanger shops, café’s 5 minute walk off – route. Points of Interest: Grand Union Canal; Horsenden Hill; Perivale Wood – restricted access see website for details; St. Mary’s Church; Pitshanger Park; River Brent. Transport: Trains - Alperton (Piccadilly Line); Hanger Lane/Perivale (Central Line); local buses. Start the walk from Alperton station. Cross Road by the crossing under the railway bridge. Go left to Atlip Road. Turn down this road to the bridge at the end and cross the canal. Turn right along the canal towpath soon passing under the Piccadilly Line and a couple of road bridges. Continue for a good mile – pleasant and country feel to this part with the Sudbury Golf course over the canal – to reach the old arched canal bridge at Horsenden Lane (to extend the walk and explore Horsenden Hill leave the canal and go over the bridge to either turn right into Horsenden Farm – a pleasant area where from near the old farmhouse a gate gives access to the lower slopes of Horsenden Hill). Go under the canal bridge, and a few steps on, go left through a gap in the canalside hedge/trees to a pleasant open space with play area by Perivale Community Centre. The trees at the back of this open space are in Perivale Wood – a local nature reserve managed by the Selborne Society (restricted access – see website). Leave here by a gateway near the Community Centre and just after cross Horsenden Lane South and go right passing a café and Perivale Library. Keep going soon passing Perivale Station (Central Line – toilets). At the traffic lights turn right to a footbridge. Cross over the A40 and on the far side go past a pub and across Old Church Lane to enter a fenced footpath. Follow this path past historic St. Mary’s Church, over the River Brent, and straight on to emerge in Pitshanger Park - tennis courts, play area, etc. Turn left and walk around the edge of the park, at first near the River Brent, to leave the park by a gateway into Meadvale Road. Turn left soon passing the Brentham Club – a busy sports and social club with a café. Continue along the road – this is a conservation area – and makes for a pleasant walk admiring the well-kept garden. The road bends right – Neville Road – and soon joins Brunswick Road. Go left here for a few steps then, between houses, turn left into a fenced footpath. A little way along a stile on the left gives access onto an open space – Brentham Meadow. A grassy path goes through this attractive nature area with its meadow, trees, pond and view of the River Brent. Return to the stile, go over, and turn left soon passing Brentham allotments to emerge on Lynwood Road. Turn left to the A40 and using the nearby subway go under the road. Nearby is the end of an old road – Westgate. Go along this, under the railway, to reach Hanger Lane (an old pub ‘Fox & Goose’ is a few minutes walk to the left). Turn right and look for the pedestrian underpass to go under the gyratory system. Here, to get to Hanger Lane station follow the signs. To go on to Alperton exit on the North Circular – Norbreck Parade side. Go right to soon pass under the railway – Piccadilly Line – and here go left down Park Avenue – a rather unattractive industrial estate. Near the end go right into Brent Crescent and a little way along turn left down a fenced path, over the River Brent, to a small, tree-lined open space. Cross this to Queensbury Road and go left to go up Abbey Avenue. At the top – shops nearby – cross Carlyon Road to Hazel Grove. Walk to the canal and cross over the footbridge to Atlip Road. Walk up the road to reach Ealing

Road. Alperton Station is just across the way.
