Recap

Everton and Sunderland served up a wacky and entertaining match on Sunday, with the hosts walking away with the three points after a match that saw no less than eight goals. Kone bagged a hat-trick, while Lukaku added a goal and two assists, two of many standout performances from Everton's attackers. After the match, Toffees manager Roberto Martinez confirmed his three-goal performance triggered a clause in Kone's contract, resulting in a 12-month extension, per Everton's official Twitter account.

Meanwhile, former England international was none too pleased with Sunderland's efforts:

The Black Cats recently bagged their first win of the season against Newcastle United, but based on their showing on Saturday, that result wasn't an indication their fortunes are about to change. Sunderland looked woeful against the Toffees, giving acres of space to Gerard Deulofeu and Lukaku.

The international hadn't scored in the Premier League since the 1-1 draw against Liverpool, but he was fantastic against Sunderland and moved into a tie for fourth place in the top scorer's list with his goal. Per WhoScored.com, his numbers this season look quite spectacular:

But for all of his brilliance, Kone was all everyone could talk about. The veteran scored his three goals from three shots and was everywhere on the pitch, working hard to get back in possession and setting up team-mates as well as finishing chances.

Martinez praised the Ivorian for his superb attitude, which he believes led to his great performance, via the Toffees' Twitter account:

Defensively, Everton still have questions, as Sunderland found far too much success when dropping the ball behind the defenders, but there's little doubt Saturday's big win was one of the most positive performances of the season for the club.

Lukaku seems to be finding his shooting boots again after a strong start to the season, and Deulofeu is starting to reward the club's patience. Obviously, Kone won't score a hat-trick every week, but Everton will take plenty of positives from this match, nonetheless.

In Sunday's other match, Southampton cruised to an easy win, with Pelle and Steven Davis both scoring in the first half to put the final score on the board. Victor Wanyama was dismissed for a second bookable offence late.

The Cherries mustered few chances at St. Mary's and were caught napping twice in quick succession. Davis converted from close range after wonderful work from Ryan Bertrand to open the score, and Pelle headed home shortly after.

The Italian then stole the show with a rugby-inspired celebration:

Like Lukaku, Pelle had to wait for several weeks to find his sixth goal of the Premier League season, last scoring against Chelsea in early October.

Bournemouth's slide continues after their wonderful start to the campaign, and the Cherries have now lost four of their last five matches.
