This is the first time in the history of French football that two teams from the same club have won a double in the same season. The men’s team, which secured their double by winning both the Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France, had started the season by prevailing in the Peace Cup and the Trophée des Champions. Eliminated in the first knockout round of the Champions League by the eventual winner, Manchester United, Olympique Lyonnais will participate in this competition for the ninth consecutive time during the 2008-09 season.
