Ha participado en los festivales internacionales más im­ portantes: el de Estrasburgo, el de Landre lo de París, Roma, Berlín y Madrid, el Ars Musica de Bruselas el Fes­ tival Ojai de California, el Festi al de La Habana y otros. Timo Korhonen ofreció su primer recital a los catorce años de edad. Su carrera internacional comenzó en Munich en 1982 cuando fue el ganador más joven del concurso de guitarra organizado por las radiodifusoras alemanas. Entre sus maestros se cuentan Pekka Vesanen, Seppo Siirala y Osear Ghiglia. Interpreta todo el repertorio usual de la guitarra, incluyen­ do música antigua que debe ser tocada en guitarras alto de doce cuerdas. También ha realizado varios arreglos para guitarra. Uno de sus sellos estilísticos más caractensticos consiste en mezclar audazmente diversos estilos de músi­ ca con el fin de crear contrastes dramáticos a la hora de 2 estructurar un programa de conciertos. Es un defensor apasionado de la música contemporánea y ha colaborado con compositores como Magnus Lindberg, Leo Brouwer y Oliver Knussen, realizando estrenos mundiales de sus obras. Dicta clases magistrales con regularidad en Copenhague (Dinamarca), en la Academia Sibelius de Helsinki, yen el Conservatorio de Turku en Finlandia. También es director de los Conciertos Culinarios Suomennlinna en Helsinki y del Guitaristival, un concurso internacional de guitarra en Tampere, Finlandia. Paisaje cubano COIl campanas Leo Brouwer Juan Leovigildo (Leo) Brouwer nació en Cuba en 1939 y se formó como guitarrista y compositor, tanto en su país • natal como en el exterior. Ha sido una figura imponente en el desarrollo de la música docta y popular cubana, con un especial énfasis en la música para cine; a lo largo de los años se ha desempeñado como guitarrista, director, compositor y pedagogo. Como compositor, Leo Brouwer tuvo una primera etapa -en los se enta y setenta- en la cual se destacó por su espí• ritu experimental. Obras conlO La espiral eterna (1971) para guitarra sola exponen diferentes grados de indeterminismo y exploración técnico-tímbrica del instru­ mento. En años recientes ha desarrollado un lenguaje 7 menos innovador, aprovechando particularmente infiuen-' cias de músicas de diferentes tradiciones y en algunos casos empleando herramientas minimalistas. Todo esto es evidente en Paisaje cubano con campanas, obra compuesta en 1986 por encargo de la Fundación Gaudeamus.     HAKOLA & HOSOKAWA GUITAR CONCERTOS TIMO KORHONEN OULU SYMPHONY OrcheSTRA SANTTU-MATIAS ROUVALI Kimmo Hakola Toshio Hosokawa “Music is the place where notes and silence meet.” – Toshio Hosokawa Kimmo Hakola (b. 1958) has a remarkably cosmopolitan and uninhibited way of mixing musical styles to create startling perspectives. His output includes orchestral works, operas, concertos, chamber music and works for solo instruments. The guitar and music written for the instrument are usually strongly associated with Spain. Accordingly, Hakola brashly and boldly employs ultra-Spanish gestures yet manages to surprise the listener with how he uses them. In Medieval Andalusia, Arabs, Jews, Gypsies and Christians lived together in peace. This fruitful interaction promoted a mixture of peoples and traditions. As folk traditions were rarely written down, they evolved as they were passed on from master to apprentice, from one generation to another. In 1980, Blas Infante wrote that the term flamenco could be traced back to the Arabian term Felah- Mengus, meaning ‘wandering people’. In Kimmo Hakola’s Guitar Concerto (2008), the composer challenges the listener to question the stereotypes associated with guitar music in general and guitar concertos in particular. I commissioned this piece with support from the Madetoja Foundation and premiered it with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in April 2008. When I write a concerto, I often draw inspiration from the soloist who will be premiering it. In my mind, I imagine myself listening to that soloist performing my music. My Guitar Concerto is a continuation of my exploration of musical worlds with a Jewish origin. While in my Clarinet Concerto I referred mostly to the klezmer tradition of the Jews of eastern Europe, which has a Balkan flavour, the Guitar Concerto has more to do with the musical tradition of the Sephardic Jews of Spain and northern Africa.

    Il chitarrista finlandese Timo Korhonen (nato il 6 novembre 1964 a Rautalampi), vincitore del prestigioso premio di musica classica a Cannes nel 2003 per il migliore concerto registrato con il Concerto di Helsinki, che Leo Brouwer ha dedicato a Timo Korhonen, è uno dei più versatili proponenti del suo strumento nel mondo. Korhonen ha suonato più trenta paesi. La libertà d’interpretazione, la grande forza espressiva e la ricchezza di suono sono le componenti principali della sua personalità ben radicata. Le interpretazioni di Korhonen sono naturali, forti nei contrasti ed è intransigente nelle sue intenzioni cercando di riprodurre il contenuto della composizione in un modo tanto vero quanto possibile e con una profonda comprensione del suo stile. È un fervido promotore della musica contemporanea, e ha rappresentato più di quaranta lavori. Molti compositori, tra cui Magnus Lindberg, Leo Brouwer, Toshio Hosokawa e Kimmo Hakola, gli hanno dedicato dei lavori. Näistä 12 on sävelletty 1700-luvulla ja 1800-luvulta on peräisin 18 teosta. 1900-luku on ohjelmistomme kivijalka: tuolta musii- killisen moninaisuuden vuosisadalta soitamme 50 teosta. 2000-luvun sävellyksiä on 14, joista suurin osa on edelleen säveltäjän työpöydällä. Synnyinvuosi on vain karkea tapa hahmottaa sävellysten tyyliä saa- ti merkitystä. Tilasto näyttää kuitenkin kiistatta sen, että uusi ja uusin musiikki ovat voimakkaasti esillä. Vuosisadat vierivät – paljon jää pois. Mitä jää elämään, kun ajan virta vie kuulijan yhä kauemmas teoksen epookista? Kuka päättää, kuka valitsee? Tätäkin tutkii tammikuussa 2018 ensimmäinen RSO-festivaali. Festivaalikonsepti antaa mahdollisuuden syventyä perusteellisemmin niihin aiheisiin, jotka ovat meille tärkeitä.
