FORCE v BAY OF PLENTY Friday 16 JULY HBF Park | 7.30pm DEAR PLAYERS, MEMBERS AND FANS, After a historic Super Rugby campaign came to an end in Auckland last month, we are thrilled to be back home in Perth for another night of live rugby. It’s a unique game day for the club, as we welcome New Zealand provincial heavyweights the Bay of Plenty, CEO Mike Rogers, head coach Daryl Gibson, and their entire squad to WA. I welcome back our loyal Sea of Blue to the Force Field for the first time since May – we have missed you greatly! As always, we can’t wait to hear you supporting the team loud and proud tonight. On behalf of the entire organisation, I’d like to extend our utmost thanks to each and every Member and fan that supported us from home and afar throughout our Super Rugby campaign. Your noise on game day and messages of support do not go unnoticed and we can’t thank you enough. This is a special occasion for the organisation, as we continue to build on this year’s success by hosting an international club team on home soil. The Bay of Plenty are one of New Zealand’s top provincial unions. Last year they made the top four in the Mitre 10 Cup and they bring a large number of Super Rugby, New Zealand Maori and ex All Blacks players. Let’s show our guests what the Western Force is all about! Enjoy the game! Tony Lewis CEO, Western Force FORCE BATTLE BAY OF PLENTY AT THE FORCE FIELD Live rugby returns to HBF Park this Friday with an action-packed match-up between the Western Force and the Bay of Plenty. -

Rugby was named after the Rugby School in England where, according to the famous plaque, "William Webb Ellis with a fine disregard for the rules of football as played in his time first took the ball in his arms and ran with it thus originating the distinctive feature of the rugby game AD 1823". -

In years gone by, this report would be prepared as a reflection on the past season as all enjoyed decent break before focusing on the requirements for the next year. It appears those days are now well behind us, as the season grows inexorably longer – as I write this report, well into November, around 60 – 80 referees are still being appointed on a weekly basis for both 7s and 15s competitions. This a matter of concern for the QRRA, as it places a heavy additional burden on our administrators, Appointments Officers and particularly on our long suffering referees (some of even the most dedicated of our members have needed to declare unavailability so that they can recover from injuries or preserve their bodies for the year ahead). -

2019 Bond University Rugby Annual Report
BOND UNIVERSITY RUGBY 2019 Annual Report The Bond University Rugby Club continues to be the Club of choice for male and female rugby players on the Gold Coast to develop in a holistic team environment, while striving to reach individual rugby aspirations. Our strategy to assist the Gold Coast and Districts Rugby Union (GCDRU) to improve the competitive competition on the Gold Coast is with a view to have a sustainable development pathway for Gold Coast rugby players and staff into the future. Connor Pritchard (1st Grade #7) was promoted to premier Rugby after an excellent season in the GCDRU 1st grade competition in 2018. Connor went on to start every 1st grade game for Bond University Rugby in 2019, he was voted as Players’ Player to receive the Slipper Trophy and was selected and played for Bond University QLD Country in the National Rugby Championships in the same year. An excellent example of the success of the strategic plan for Gold Coasts’ only Premier Rugby Club. MEN’S RUGBY: SENIORS: Grant Anderson, Gold Coast’s first 100 cap Premier player, again demonstrated his loyalty to the Club and as Head Coach led a fierce charge for the 1st grade team at the back end of the season. After a number of disruptions and a poor start to the season however, again we missed finals play offs by the smallest of margins. Through some outstanding performances a number of players were rewarded with further representative honours. Congratulations to Bond University Rugby’s senior representative players from 2019: Wallabies: James Slipper (2019 RWC) Reds Super Rugby : Angus Blyth, Gavin Luka, Alex Mafi, Hamish Stewart Brumbies Super Rugby: James Slipper Bond University Qld Country NRC Angus Blyth, Dan Boardman, Joey Fittock, Gavin Luka, Alex Mafi, Zac Moi Moi, Connor Pritchard, Hamish Stewart Bond University Qld Country Manager: Leticia Chapman COLTS: (Colts 2) for the 2nd consecutive year, were Bond University Rugby Club’s highest achievers, making the Grand Final and finishing second. -
