Forvbop-Match-Day-Programme FORCE v BAY OF PLENTY Friday 16 JULY HBF Park | 7.30pm DEAR PLAYERS, MEMBERS AND FANS, After a historic Super Rugby campaign came to an end in Auckland last month, we are thrilled to be back home in Perth for another night of live rugby. It’s a unique game day for the club, as we welcome New Zealand provincial heavyweights the Bay of Plenty, CEO Mike Rogers, head coach Daryl Gibson, and their entire squad to WA. I welcome back our loyal Sea of Blue to the Force Field for the first time since May – we have missed you greatly! As always, we can’t wait to hear you supporting the team loud and proud tonight. On behalf of the entire organisation, I’d like to extend our utmost thanks to each and every Member and fan that supported us from home and afar throughout our Super Rugby campaign. Your noise on game day and messages of support do not go unnoticed and we can’t thank you enough. This is a special occasion for the organisation, as we continue to build on this year’s success by hosting an international club team on home soil. The Bay of Plenty are one of New Zealand’s top provincial unions. Last year they made the top four in the Mitre 10 Cup and they bring a large number of Super Rugby, New Zealand Maori and ex All Blacks players. Let’s show our guests what the Western Force is all about! Enjoy the game! Tony Lewis CEO, Western Force FORCE BATTLE BAY OF PLENTY AT THE FORCE FIELD Live rugby returns to HBF Park this Friday with an action-packed match-up between the Western Force and the Bay of Plenty. This will be our fans final chance to catch the Force in action in Perth for 2021 and it’s set to be a special occasion with legend Kieran Longbottom and club stalwart Chris Heiberg bidding farewell to the Sea of Blue in their last appearance. New Zealand provincial powerhouse Bay of Plenty have named a strong squad for the game, with Super Rugby duo Luke Campbell (Hurricanes) and Nathan Harris (Chiefs) co-captaining the side. The Steamers will be bringing plenty of flair and entertainment to the contest with All Blacks and Chiefs scrumhalf Te Tairoa Tahuriorangi set to excite. Force head coach Tim Sampson has selected a team full of homegrown talent, with almost 50% of the matchday squad products of the Academy system, including current Force Fortescue Academy players Zantana Pomare and Finn O’Callaghan. The stage is set for a fantastic night of rugby at the Force Field and we can’t wait to see you all there! • Forward Momentum
Forward momentum JIM TUCKER finds out what Taranaki rugby is doing to make more history: “It was the BBC - Brown, Briscoe and Carroll.” So began the front page story in the Taranaki Herald Sports Edition one Saturday in 1959. It was one of an endless string of puns the paper’s rugby writer used to chronicle extraordinary feats by Taranaki’s late-50s Ranfurly Shield holders. The monikers so playfully employed above – it could easily have been Burke, Boon and Cameron - are a distant memory for most of today’s generation. But they’re far from forgotten at Taranaki Football Rugby Union HQ in Yarrow Stadium. As the photograph of TRFU chief executive Mike Collins shows, that great team dominates one whole wall of the meeting room, and as the union gears up to repeat last year’s win in the ITM inter-provincial rugby competition, the names of Peter Burke, Ross Brown, Kevin Briscoe, Ralph Carroll and company resonate as never before. One reason is the current team already rivals the ‘59ers on at least one measure – the number of All Blacks in its ranks While Taranaki had six at various stages between 1957 and 1960, today’s team has five, with more in the offing. It also has eight Maori All Blacks, (including captain Charlie Ngatai, also an All Black), and two in the Junior All Blacks. Not that any of this is particularly at the forefront He says the academy managers, Willy Rickards of Mike Collins’ mind as he and his team prepare and Adam Haye, spotted Vaeno during some high for the ITM Cup season, which began with a school first fifteen games.

14 Established 1961 Sports Sunday, September 6, 2020 Photo of the day Gregory returns to NFL Cowboys NEW YORK: Dallas Cowboys defensive back Randy Gregory was conditionally reinstated by the NFL on Friday, but he won’t be able to prac- tice with the team or play until October. Gregory’s fourth banishment by the league was for an indefinite span and came in February 2019 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy and terms of a 2018 reinstatement deal. “Today is a day of celebration and thanks,” Gregory tweeted in a statement, thanking a host of people, “and most importantly my fami- ly for sticking by (me through) thick and thin and to helping me get to the positive place I am at today. “It’s go time. I am in a good place and plan to use this second chance to be a great father, play- er, citizen of Dallas and teammate. Let’s get this.” Gregory will be allowed to report to the Cowboys on Monday for COVID-19 testing, solo workouts and meetings but cannot practice until October 5 and will not be able to join team work- outs or play until the week of the Cowboys’ October 19 home game against Arizona. Gregory will have an acclimation period to work on conditioning and prepare to rejoin the club, which is finishing pre-season work this week before starting the 2020 season on September 13 at the Los Angeles Rams. The 2015 second-round NFL Draft selection applied for reinstatement last March. In five NFL seasons, Gregory has made 41 tackles and The Red Bull Racing prepare for a pitstop in England.
